if did a restore from norton, i suggest you do a repair with the windows XP cd, insert the cd start the set up program, windows will take you to a screen to choose r for repair, it will delete all system files and reinstall them...... if you are not able to get the CRTL+ALT+DEL you probable have the welcome screen to log on to windows. where you can just click on the user name to log on. if thats the screen you have RTL+ALT+DEL will not work.

you can't format the system drive from within windows. the only way to format the drive is either by a booting from a CD or floppy. restart the PC when you see the bios screen, hit the key that it says to enter setup for the bios, either F5, DEL then make sure the boot priority is set to CD then HDD, pop the vista cd in, then restart the pc when it boots from the cd follw the prompt, until you get to the screed to choose the HDD to install to. you will see an advance link, click on it and choose to delete the partition.

It's as simple as each letter signifies an upgrade in the wireless device, 802.11 was the first now reffered to as a legacy system ( old) then came A then B/G now we are looking at the newest N. as for the type thats on your PC you should be able to see the name and letter type in the properties of the connection. or you can look in the system, device manager, under network adapter. there you shold see the name of the adapter and the type. as for the router you should get i suggest you stick with the G. the N is slated to be officially release in Septermber 2008, so unless you plant o wait that long of go for a test production type,

. I just got a new computer with Windows ista not ery long ago. I just bought a used wireless router about a week ago. I tried to configure it and couldn't get it to work. Then I realized I should press the reset button on the back and did so. After doing this I let it configure itself automatically. The router is a netgear wgr614 v6. For some reason my computer recognizes the wireless network, but not the internet. I know this is not a problem with the cable modem or the wires between them because when I plug the router into the computer I can connect to the internet just fine. When I try to diagnose the problem with Windows Vista it says that it does not have a valid IP configuration. Does anybody know how to help me?

New to the Forum HUH >>>>>over 1000 post??????

I am assuming you meant the MODEM, Correct.

try this in the following steps, power off the router. unplug the cable from the modem to the router, power down the modem, wait 20 sec, power up the modem then wait 20 sec, while this is happening, check …

Base on what you said you might be experiencing an issue with a second securing part for the PCI slots see the attached image for instruction, on how to remove the slot cover, NB: your PC case might be different, but basically the same procedures.

ALSO ensure the remove a cover that will line up with the correct slot you plan to put the carg in.......Normally the AGP is brown.

do an ipconfig on all pc connecting to the router, make a note, now that you have a bridge, the ip will change, the ip address from the router are usually 192.XXX.X.100-4. ensure non of the other pc connecting to the router are using the same ip as the XBox.

Hey I just reinstalled the drivers for my network wireless adapter, netgear wg111. I have a netgear DG834G and the computer's internet, connected to it through ethernet, works fine. Before I uninstalled the connection was working perfectly but after I reinstalled it it would stay at 'aquiring network address' for a while then tell me it failed to. I've tried renewing from ipconfig but an error message occurs saying 'unable to connect to DHCP server, request timed out'. I tried flushing the DNS from ipconfig. I also tried resetting winsock.
All this was to no avail.
Any ideas to help?

base on the highlighted/underline text in red how can you have this, stated in green/underline

Thanks alot.

1. I get an IP address from ipconfig
2. The network shows connected with 'very good' connection just cannot aquire network address
3. I'm using windows XP sp2
4. At the moment I've got two computers connected to the router, one through ethernet and the other with an adapter, which is the one I'm having problems with.

is this in reference to the wireless..

did you try to reboot all the devices. power off all devices, then reboot modem, wait 20sec then router, then your pc.

are you using wireless zero to control the wireless network ? or are you using the wireless card utility to configure the wireless? is the netwiork encrypted (WEP or WPA) is the router configured to MIXED ( your would have …

install in the 250, use the 120G for backup, if you have a slower HDD connect it and us that too, as for the transfer process you can do it from within windows, (Prefferable in safe mode) i aslo suggest you do a copy instead of a move. you can also go the route of using the cd that came with the HDD to move your files to the other drive.

as for the heavy programs you are going to run HDD space is not your MAJOR concern, processor and memory power are, plus display setting,( i would assume you have a good display already)

here is the step suggestion, backup any thing you need from current operating system, to the 120G drive, then shut down, remove the 120G HDD, then format the 250G, install your operating systems XP+Vista. shutdown, connect the 120G, boot to XP, copy what you need from the 120G to a folder on the 250G then use computer management> disk management to format the 120G when thats done copy back the fold to the 120G that was copied to the 250G

try remove the card, shut down the pc, reboot the dsl, modem, thet start up the pc, insert the usb card. see if it detect the network. is the wireless router encrypted ( WEP, WPA) ensure the usb adapter is using the same type of encription, or make sure the router is set to mixed.

your mapped drive letter does not make a difference, as long as the path name is correct you should be able to gett to the drive that the database is stored on. you want to make sure that she is added to the admin section of the shared drive you are trying to access, and she have the correct permissions. now when you say point access to the drive i am assuming that you want to be able to click file open and the mapped drive is the default location that would open correct? if so click on tool options then go to the general tab look for default file location and change whats there to the mapped drive and folder containing the files.( for options to be visible you MUST have a file open in access)

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

as i stated before you would need to have the adobe plugin installed, and if you look in your printers section you should see a printer name adobe pdf, thats what will be used to convert the file. open the file in words, look for a tool bar for adobe you should have an option to convert file to pdf. or on the file menu click save as and choose file type to be pdf. if non of these iptions are availabe you do not have the plugin installed or you are using the adobe reader.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Adobe Professional version 7 should be able to convert your word doc into an adobe document that you can fill out in adobe. the question is what version of office are you running and does it have the adobe plugin. meaning you should be able to open the file in Word, and do a save as or convert to pdf. you can even conver to pdf then edit in adobe to be a fillable form, meaning you can add the spaces/text boxes to write into.

That clicking sound could be your hard drive, evidence point to it, PC takes long to load, Upload takes forever. the system is trying to access area that are failing, therefore, the HDD is failing, the file you are trying to upload is stored in a bad sector on the HDD. to prove this try coppying the file to another drive or write to a cd. i suggest you run chkdsk /f on the hdd this will repair the sector if possible and move the file to a good area on the HDD

i attach the .doc it shows it is attached but is not received. this is what i have tried:
enable & disable firewall
checked the options tab for word.doc
checked AT&T support tool
run 2 different virus scans
checked start up options
deleted temp. file & cookies
tried different levels of macro security
tired different levels of security for internet options
checked and tried different options in firefox browser

none of these has worked, google did not turn up threads by anyone with the same problem,

@ wazy did your get your issue resolve?, Jbennet and suspishio are turning this in a very interesting debate over momory and processor. I am learing a few things though, but here is my peice, 3G of memory on a home PC IS pointless, no application you are going to run will every use the threshold (basically 80-85% of memory installed) as for a Quad core processor, that does make sense if you are running mory hogging application. giving the application better processing time and less stress on the memory, but you MUST be runnif a BIG FSB (front Side Bus) both for the memory and the processor to see the difference.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if you are installing and windows does not detect your eth controller, it's one of two things, one the controller is disable in the bios, or the drivers for it in not in the windows drivers cab. the best thing to do is go the PC manufacturer site to get the correct driver for the ethernet controller. . as for the chipset, if this is a pc you built the drivers should be on the cd that came with the mother board.
