Well you could get a Linux CD, when booting up insert the disc and you can try out Linux to see if you like it. And if you don't like it, when you shut-down, all of the info has gone leaving you back where you were.

Are the drivers up-to-date? Also have you/another user accidentally deleted the drivers for the keyboard. Try an old PS/2 keyboard just to make sure that the computer is registering the presence of a keyboard.

Normally the SATA ports in in the motherboard! Are you sure that you are connecting the correct drive cable to and from the HDD? There may be an expansion card that fits into a PCI slot that has SATA ports, though i am not aware of one.

Sometimes your anti-virus blocks e-mail clients (such as Hotmail) because it thinks it's spyware or a virus. Best way to fix that, is to go into ur Anti-virus program (Norton) and change the virus settings, so that Hotmail is NOT included. That should solve ur problem. By the way Norton …

find a program called WinRAR, the program has full options for 40 days, then hassles you to buy it, you don't have to buy the full product, but you loose some options, and it becomes an 'evaluation' copy.

if this occurs while playing a game, it often means that your graphics card is not up to the job. But if your graphics card is brand new, look for a little program called "speedbit video accelerator" and remove it! ~ this caused my constant BSOD's.

so we are talking about an external keyboard here, or the keyboard attached to the laptop? by the way, all laptops have a port for a keyboard, it is often the same port as the external mouse.
