I think there is no connection between free or paid host and pr. It all depends on your on how you gather backlinks for your site.

Adsense is good and really a good source of extra income. Compare to other PPC program, I still recommend adsense.

Agree. Most of free hosts don't have your own domain. The advantage of free host is you can save your money but limited on space. while of paid one, more space and you can do what you want in your site.

Alexa tool has no good result, it can be manipulated. About compete, less people are using this tool.

About 80%. Other traffic are coming from other sites and SE.

I believe they use the keyword metas to classify or know what your site is about, but not for ranking, IF you misuse them by spamming to many keywords or unrelated keywords i believe you can be penalized. All said, you are safe in just leaving them out. But it is also my belief that Live/MSN does use the keyword tags. So, I use them, but very carefully.
