How do you connect? Go to tools, internet options, connections, and then you will have to setup how you connect. Either never dial connection (DSL and Cable) or dial a connection for modem. Check this if you still have a problem let us know

Before you get too worried about it, I would get a DVM and check out the voltages with this. I would wager that you do have the voltage out of the power supply, and it's just the software.

When you say "it beeps" are you talking computer or drive? If you unplug the drive does the computer start up normally? If so you may either remove the hard drive and try it in you're computer, or return it, it should be under warranty

I will agree with DMR scrap the 128 meg of ram and get one or two sticks to move up to 512mb. I have found out that inless you can ID the type and manufacture of RAM you will most likely cause you're self problems.

You corrupted the BIOS, so you will have to get it reflashed, or replaced. The reflashing has to be done out of the computer. Check with MSI, see if you can get a replacement BIOS, or if you know what type check a BIOS upgrade place like unicore.com

XP will ask you if you want to save file for uninstall, you might nameit ntuninstallsp2. This you could delete after you are comfortable with the install. Personally I have not had a problem with SP2, I would just go ahead and install.
