i recentl downgraded, or shall i say "upgraded" my hp pavilion 2415nr laptop from vista to xp. Everything went great, except for the sound card installation. None of the drivers on any forum work. was wondering if anybody had done this, or know what to do.

First try a known working PSU in this PC. Pull your CMOS battery for some time. if these two things do not work, you have a bad MOBO or CPU. Thats all there is to it.

i assume you tried booting in safe mode, as this is one of the options you get. if you cannot boot in safe mode even, it sounds like you may have to start from scratch. Unless your PC has a hidden system restore partition that you can access and restore …

If you can get ahold of a usb to ide adapter it would be easier to retrieve files. don't know if you have tried one yet. they can be bought off of tiger direct or new egg. very handy tools to have.

limited or no connectivity means that you were not assigned a proper IP address. how do you connect to the internet? do you have a router in place. Does your ISP assign a static ip address or is it DHCP? eric

there can be a couple things to look at here. Obviously there is nothing wrong with your laptop if you are connecting to your neighbors router, which he should consider securing his router for that matter. first i would try power cycling your cable modem. pull the power from it …

Are these indicator lights that show that it is plugged in? perhaps the power adapter is bad, thus not turning on the laptop or charging the battery

if you bought the computer brand new out of the box, it should have came with a few discs. Including an OEM of the OS and all the device drivers.

you have one of two possible problems here. Either your PSU is going out on you, or your CPU is overheating. Is your PC dusty inside, this acts as insualtion, you wanna get rid of this. Does your heat sink fan appear to be running slowly? Sometimes they start to …

if you are noticing that the lights on you cable modem stop blinking, or do not act in a manner that they are supposed to, then i would have to say that it is a problem with your isp. this would have nothing to do with your pc as far …

log on to your default router ip address, with Dlink it sould be 192.168.0.1, and find out what your ssid is. then use your laptop wireless configuration utility and scan for ssid or networks. find the same one in your router and tell it to connect. bravo your done!

I am a wireless internet technician, so first off, does the lights on the router indicate that it is connected to the internet. usually by a "internet" light or a "wan" light, they are both used interchangably. If the router does have a active internet connection, find out what the …

you say you have no video when you boot. Are you using a vieo card, or integrated video? if integrated video is available, use it and see it you can retrieve something visual. The first step is to resolve the video issue, then go from there

if the length it stays on gets progressively shorter, i would first try the power supply. that is a common sign of failure

verify that your PSU is working correctly. Verify with a VM that the proper volts are being destributed. If not you have a bad psu, is so then you have a bad MOBO.

Even if you boot into safe mode you still need a UN and PW. Your only option at this point would be to reformat and reload whatever operating system was installed, or whatever you have available. Safe mode does not mean that you dont need to authenticate, it just does …

If you are getting just the flashing cursor, which many of us have seen, that means that it is not able to load your OS. Make sure that the jumpers are set correct. you can only have one master per ribbon cable.
