WeLcOmE vijayk
are you on a network or is it your home pc
hey fella
wotz up? [what a bad question am I asking]
ohk so what error massage do you get.make sure your internet config is right.when was the last time you had access to the net via your notebook.any thing weird happened?
lol.daniweb really rocks
...or right click your hard drive, tools[tab], click check now {under error checking}, check the two boxes then click start start
Have you checked your drive to see if you have any massive file folders on there....I wonder if your reg fixer has created some sort of file that is duplicating in a folder somewhere.......or maybe a virus doing it? I don't know but it would be worth the quick look....
Clever thinking dupius, happened to a client pc once.
what is the actuall disk space, have you done your basics ie disk check, anti virus program?
weldone fella
but you did install a battery so there's new hw fella
hey thinka quick q for you have you heard of the windows darklite?
problem most likely cpu,if theres no hard ware that was changed or any other suspicious user actions than you should have a closer look.furthermore see if windows freezes or retstarts when you go into safe mode that is if you can
go into BIOS at start up by pressing tapping delete/f12 at startup for a couple of times.make your cdrom your BOOT up device, then BOOT with your OS in the cd/dvd drive
Do a system restore ass well.Ill have a look at your HJT log and drop a post tomorow
[about to leave work]
we'll get it fixed though-no worries
Have you run chkdsk on your HDD
how is your cpu performance when the website is peak loading.try uninstalling and reinstalling IE.
Hi David
If you dont have a OS disk you can buy one of your choice xp or Vista and install it. if your laptop is on a LAN you can retrieve your mail if youre email is exchange[jjust ask the network admin].
you should set your jumpers
welcome to daniweb
Are you on a network?since when are you experiencing this prob.
Hi there and welcome to daniweb
Replacing your fan will fix your prob.cpu not getting enough cooling.install a new fan
whats your pc specs.[we'll work around it somehow]
reset your cpu.sometimes when custom building pc's I am faced with similar problems removing the parts and rebuilding from scratch should work.specially if all parts are brand new
it won't completely shut down.
So I guess its not a program that hang's and causing delays.you should try another PSU .lend one so long for testing
you can jump your BIOS, try another cd drive (preferably IDE) run a detection in BIOS.
What haapens when you swop your hd connectors with your cd connectors.anything new.cos theres no way it will work if you install the OS in another machine with your HD in it
Hi and welcome Mike
what is your power supply wattage, sounds like your keyboard and monitor arent receiving any power.unplug all components except for your video card if not onboard, start up only with monitor keyboard and hard drive
how is it behaving now??
what happens when you hold the power button down?does it shut down?if so what happens when you start it up again and shut it down via start>shutdown
still the same?
This, I believe, was the simplest solution to your problem before.
However, since you reformatted, it will not help, nevertheless, I tell you so you know for later use, as I am sure you'll need it again.Regardless to your problem now.
I don't know why your CD-rom is not recognized in the BIOS.
Still, unless both computers have the same specifications, ( especially motherboard ), the installation you did in that hard drive will work properly only for that computer where the installation was made. Taking that hard drive and inserting it into another piece of hardware is most like not to be able to work.
well said.unplug none essential hardware and install OS on HDD plugged in your mobo.reconnect other hardware after the install of OS and essential programs.
try selecting the other option when prompted to restart your machine do so.when back in windows is the problem the same?if so change it back, restart and see if its still behaving that way.pending quick reply
Are you using Service Pack 2.seems the problem is most likely in sp2.ohk see if this work around works
system properties>advance(tab)>performance settings>data execution prevention(tab)[check the first radio]
did it work?
cool
Ill keep that in mind for when I want to post you something.accuracy.
did you give your bro admin rights if so you can access your settings by logging in with your bro's username/pwd and go to documents and settings to browse to your name.that is if your profile wasnt deleted. also if the windows welcome screen is disabled try logging in with your user name/ pwd.
Hello,
I had to get another hard drive and format and put my Windows XP Home edition on it. Couldn't do it from my computer, because it would not boot from the CD so had to put in another and do it. Boots up fine on that computer. When I hook it back up to my computer, it loads up, the the Windows XP splash screen comes on real quick, then reboots, just keeps doing that.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Phil
Hi fella
what do you mean it will not BOOt from the CD does the BIOS not give you that option? you should install the OS while the hard drive is hooked in your mobo for drivers to be detected.
??
do you have enough access time to post a HJT log if you do post a log here
[mind the capital letters]
A BOSS WALKED INTO THE OFFICE ONE MORNING NOT KNOWING THAT HIS ZIPPER
WAS DOWN AND HIS FLY AREA IS WIDE OPEN. HIS SECRETARY WALKED UP TO HIM
AND SAID "BOSS, THIS MORNING WHEN YOU LEFT YOUR HOUSE, DID YOU CLOSE YOUR
GARAGE DOOR?"
THIS WAS NOT A PHRASE THAT HER BOSS UNDERSTOOD, SO
HE WENT INTO HIS OFFICE LOOKING A BIT PUZZLED. WHEN HE WAS ABOUT DONE
WITH HIS PAPERWORK, HE SUDDENLY NOTICED THAT HIS ZIPPER WAS NOT ZIPPED
UP.
HE ZIPPED UP AND REMEMBERING WHAT HIS SECRETARY HAD TOLD HIM, HE FINALLY
UNDERSTOOD. THEN HE INTENTIONALLY WENT OUT TO ASK FOR A CUP OF COFFEE
FROM HIS SECRETARY. WHEN HE REACHED HER DESK, HE SAID "WHEN YOU SAW THE
GARAGE DOOR OPEN DID YOU SEE MY HUMMER PARKED IN THERE?"
THE SECRETARY SMILED FOR A MOMENT AND SAID "NO, SIR I DIDN'T, ALL I SAW
WAS A MINI COOPER WITH 2 FLAT TYRES!!!
flashing bios is not for troubleshooting
does it really matter in how I say it...I just want his machine to work.
So my question is this...is there anyway to get files off that drive, mainly just pictures and such?
Thank you
Phil
when you manually copy your goodies what happens does it also give you the error massage if not than you can copy your goodies manually
Happy computing
cheers fella
What xp version and sp are you installing, have you tried a different OS disk
ohk I think the image in caperjack's link has changed.but by going into your BIOS and scrolling in and out of the options you should see an option that will display the name of oyur cd/dvd drive.together with that should be your Hard Drive if you cant see that than you should consult your IT techy for a closer technical look at your hard drive
sure
best of luck
