I'm glad you got it working DaMaGe. It's funny that the newest tech (SATA) still relies on tech that most people consider obsolete (floppies).
I guess that'll remain one of life's biggest ironies!!!!! ;)

You would have received the floppy with your mother board. If you've misplaced it, you can download the sata drivers from the manufacturer's web site...
I'd recommend a 400W PSU from Antec. The AMD 64 bit CPUs are power hogs(all 64 bit CPUs are).
As for the mobo, I'd recommend one with an nForce4 chipset. How about the MSI 7135? I'm using this mobo and it's great....
What you need to do is insert the disk labelled "SATA driver disk" (or something like that), and when setup asks you to "Press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver", press F6, and follow the onscreen prompts.
Note that the SATA disk will be a floppy you received with your motherboard. It may be labelled "RAID driver disk" or something....
It looks like a heating problem to me. Open up your system and see if all fans are spinning rapidly. If not, get them replaced ASAP. While you're in there, clean up any dust settled on the components. Dust leads to poor conduction of heat, so clean it up. Let us know if this helps or not...
My guess is a corrupt or missing ACPI driver, or ACPI is disabled in the bios. Try enabling ACPI in the bios and tru updating the ACPI drivers
I have seen that before, I was able to fix by going to run/cmd
and then run chkdsk from there. It will run then at next boot up, and fixed the problems after it ran.
Actually, the chkdsk from Recovery Console is a much more rigirous check than the one run from cmd. Try running chkdsk from Recovery Console
You think PCAnywhere is better than Remote Desktop? I've used both and I have to say that I much prefer the Remote Desktop. We use Cisco VPN client with Remote Desktop and I think both work wonderfully. It's fast and other than a few little glitches with the VPN software works flawlessly.
I never said that. I just suggested that as an alternative to Remote Desktop. I myself prefer Remote Desktop for my tasks, which, I may add, are not that critical
Using internet explorer go to housecall.antivirus.com. They have an online spyware/antivirus scan that is free and pretty decent. There are other free antivirus scans online as well, but I recommend this one. Its updates by the hour so it should be able to remove it.
Online scans aren't worth it. I've had bad experiences with them. If you've got a trojan horse, and McAfee isn't helping, try using Spybot S&D or Adaware. These programs may be able to help you out. Also, try using Norton 2005. I've had excellent experiences with this.
Why Con't Ues Panda Online Scanning It Will Give Solution To U
Panda AV sucks big time
I even tried rebooting in Safe Mode and refresh installing Windows. If someone can help, I'd be eternally grateful. I'm going insane!!!
If by "refresh installing windows" you mean running setup over the existing windows install, you're unlikely to solve the problem as the trojan will corrupt any freshly copied system file. I'd recommend a format of the Windows partition and a clean install of Windows
Dear friend
In 2000 prof in properties od my comuter remote assitence tab is not avialble
Windows 2000 doesn't have in built support for Remote Assistance. I beleve Remote Assistance was implemented from Windows XP and (till date) extended till Windows Server 2003. Though it's certain Windows Vista and Windows Longhorn Server will have support for Remote Assistance.
Personally, Remote Desktop is a boon for me.
However, you could use Symantec's pcAnywhere for the same purpose.

Does Windows 2000 even have remote assistance?

Look on the drive. There'll be a toggle switch of some sort. Flip it and it should work.
Some drives are write protected via software. In this case, you need to use the utilities that may have come with your drive. Refer to the instruction manual for detailed info
Start Windows XP Setup. During the pre-setup phase, youre given the option of formatting the partitions. Use that to format C:. Refer the Windows XP instruction manual for detailed info.
I suspect a virus/spyware problem. Or a corrupt driver. Since you say she downloads almist all the updates, she may have downloaded an update or a driver not compatible with the hardware. Try a recent system restore point and see if it helps
If you bought a box packed processor, you should have got a heatsink fan combo along with it. This heatsink has a thermal pad on it. If you didn't remove the tape covering this pad, thats your problem. If you didn't get any heatsink fan combo, you bought an OEM cpu. In this case, I would recommend taking off your heatsink, removing the thermal grease and get an AMD recommended Thermal Pad (its different from thermal grease). This should take care of your problem
possible but you cant expect 12 volts all the time. there is supposed to be some fluctuation of 0.5volts either way.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read somewhere that voltage below 11.6 volts on the 12 volt line can bring the system down. I'd first check the PSU
i've known processors to bring the system to a crawl and this would be my second option of fault finding here. try it:)
I agree. You could try a diff GPU, or if you have onboard graphics, use that.
One way of going about it would be to connect <I>only</I> the devices you absolutely need. This would mean the monitor, keyboard, mouse and the boot HDD. Try using the machine then. If all goes well, re connect the other devices one at a time. Repeat till you locate the problem.
I know this is an obvious suggestion, but we're running out of ideas....;)
in that case i would look more toward a possible fault with the graphics card
I don't think the graphics card could bring the system to a crawl. How about the power supply? I've seen when the PSU gives, say 11.6 volts on the 12 volts line, the computer hangs....
Hey Thanks, dude. It worked
Well, windows 98 came with the scandisk program which, in windows showed the bad cluster count and in DOS mode, showed the count AND showed a graphical representation of your disk on a chart. Also, Im guessing Norton Disk Doctor can do so as well

Hi,
I'm making a music database, and I need to list 20 tracks. Currently, Im typing the following code 20 times:
<a href="music/<%=rs1("artist") %>/<%=rs1("album") %>/01%20<%=rs1("Track1") %>.<%=rs1("ext") %>"><%=rs1("Track1") %></a><br>
replacing 01 and Track1 with 02, 03, 04 Track2 Track3, Track4 etc.
Now, I tried using the for loop like this:
<%
for i= 1 to 20
%>
<a href="music/<%=rs1("artist") %>/<%=rs1("album") %>/<%=i%>%20<%=rs1("Track1") %>.<%=rs1("ext") %>"><%=rs1("Track1") %></a><br>
<%
next
%>
But when I change the <%=rs1("Track1") %> to <%=rs1("Track"&<%=i%>) %>
it doesn't work . What am I doing wrong here? Do let me know. Thanks
my problem goes like this, and maybe one of you guys can help me. i have a dell inspirion 1150, thats about a year old. i have service pack two and all of that and for a wireless i dont have the dell default i got a us robotics wireless reciever. ok my problem is this, most of the time when i log on to a network i get the little or no connectivity message after waiting for about a minute while it says that the connection is aquiring a network ip address. this is mostly smaller networks, like starbucks or personal wireless (home) networks. funny thiing is that it has done this also with the hard line connection (dsl cable etc) so its not like the problem is limited to wireless . but like right now im in an airport and it has worked fine, and also at my school i can use both wireless and ethernet. im not sure if it is because of the size of the network or what the problem could be. i called the dell help line but they didnt know what the problem was either. they suggested a forum. so i think thats about it. most of the time when not on my schools network ( which always works ) it doesnt aqquire an ip address i guess. i dont know though. non of my settings are wrong, ive looked at the options and told it to set up an automatic ip address …
Hi all
My IP is of the non routable types, 10.40.100.xxx. It's a static IP. I'm using IIS to host a website. However, my IP being the non routable type, I cant get others to access my machine by typing the IP in the address bar (http://10.40.100.xxx) and my ISP's reverse DNS as per grc.com is 202-177-150-12.sify.net Now, is there anyway I can use NAT or any other method so people can access my site using the IP address? Please do let me know. Thanks
I think it might be a heating problem. Can you see how hot the CPU gets? If its gettong too hot, remove the heatsink, clean off the thermal paste on the sink and the processor and apply a thin layer of Arctic Silver on the CPU and re apply the heat sink.
If the RAM chips are getting heated (tho i doubt that) you can install RAM heat sinks too. Also check the graphics card for heating.
I had the same problem. I cleaned the disk by shaking it upside down. That got the particles out. Ofcourse, that was a cd writer and a couple of weeks after I carried the procedure out, the thing started spewing out coasters. Guess the alignment went haywire. Ricky, I suggest you be extremely slow and take it easy when opening the drive. Some drive cases have some sort of catch in them, so the drive won't open just like that. You'll need to twist and slide the cover off gently(again, the catch mechanism varies from drive to drive). Once you've got the drive open, turn it upside down and gently rock it to get the shards out. Then, eject the tray using the pin mechanism (DO NOT pull it out) and rock it again. Finally, blow the small pieces off using compressed air. Cleaning the lens with compressed air is a good idea as well. Do not touch the lens or the lens assembly though. Once you're done, slide the cover back on, taking care to re engage any catch on the drive, and screw the cover back on. Run a complete benchmark of the drive using Nero CD-DVD Speed. If there're any problems, call tech support.
FYI, generally a device's warranty does not cover any damages to the drive like disc breaking etc, as in all probability the disk broke due to a crack somewhere on the disk. If, however you can somehow prove that the disk was …
Hi Karl,
The Nero version is 6.6.0.8.I'm pretty sure the disc is a 52x CD-R as its detected as 52x in my writer(ASUS CRW-5232AS).
Hi,
My friend has a Sony combo drive, the CRX 320 EE. Supposedly, this drive, as a CD writer is a 52x32x52x drive. Trouble is, when I put in a 52x CD-R disc (Moser Baer 52x CD-R), nero detects it as a 40x disc. The CD is a 52x CD-R. I have confirmed the same on my writer. However, in this sony drive, it is detected as a 40x disc. Everest Home Edition has detected the max CD-R write speed of this writer as 52x. I'm prettymuch stumped here. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance
hey,
I just got up my network, and am having a peculiar problem.
I want to share files between 2 computers: ratbert and crocker. The problem is, crocker is able to connect to ratbert and access the files shared by ratbert. However, whenever ratbert tries to connect to crocker, I get the message
"Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"
I've enabled the guest account, reviewed the settings in Local Security Policy (Tools>Local Security Settings>Local Policies>User Rights Assignment, right-click on Access this computer from the network>Properties>Add Users or Groups)and added "Everyone" to the list, but to no avail. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.
Both machines run WinXP SP2 and the firewalls have been disabled. Pinging one machine from the other works fine too.
apparently the 333MHz module was at fault. It was still under warranty, so I got it replaced. Everything;s working great now. Thanks a lot for your support, Janine and Catweazle. I appreciate it.
Hey fellow geniuses
I've got 2 RAM sticks
--> 512 mb @ 400MHz
--> 512 mb @ 333MHz
Here's the problem. When I install the RAM sticks individually one at a time, the computer starts up fine. But, when I install both of them, the BIOS gives me three long beeps(the code for bad RAM). If sometimes the RAMs do work together, the comp restarts just as the XP login screen appears. What do you think is the problem?
I kinda suspect the 333MHz RAM stick coz when I gave it to my friend to test, his comp kept rebooting.
I have also verified the 400MHz stick is fine coz when I used the comp with just that stick, it never rebooted
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I install RAM sticks of different clock speeds, won't the system operate at the speed of the slower RAM stick?(in my case it should operate at 333MHz, and it does). What I want to know is can two RAMs of diff speeds conflict and cause the comp to reboot?
Earlier, I had 3 RAM sticks -- the 512mb/333MHz one, a 256 mb/266MHz and a 128 mb/133 MHz stick. This combo worked fine (altho with a speed of 133MHz) and the comp never rebooted.
Please do let me know what the problem could be. For further info, do let me know.
My system specs are as under:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
True. My hp 3320 printer driver started whining about low ink 4 months ago, and I still havent run out of ink...The reason i bought hp was that they got out rugged products. But my printer is an exception, I guess. If I haven't used the thing, for say 4 days, then when I turn on the device, the damn thing keeps making some weird noises. Extremely loud too, much like you'd hear when a plastic part breaks....
Could be a problem with either DirectX or the graphics drivers. I recommend DirectX 9.0c and the latest forceware drivers from nvidia. Also, see if you can update your motherboard chipset drivers.
Also, disable all redundant programs running, like instant messengers, media players, compression utilities etc. Ideally, the only programs running while playing games should be an antivirus software and a firewall

Need more info. Which player, which company, what type of batt etc, but im gonna try making a few assumptions.
Im guessing the battery in your player is charged by the USB port when the player is connected. If that's the case, you will need to first charge the player by leaving the comp turned on and the player connected for atleast 10 hours.
If the player is not charged by the USB port, the battery in the player is probably dead. Replace the battery.
also its brand new but its making a scratchy sound when i try to install windows, is this normal?
Scratchy sound ONLY while windows install means the hdd is probably OK. Sound all the time means the HDD may conk off. Get it replaced ASAP.
I also suggest running a diagnostic tool like Seagate's Seatools
It's possible that Compatibility mode is set to run in Windows 95 emulation for these programs. Right click the program's exe and choose properties. Click the compatibility tab. Uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode ". Try running the program again.

Try replacing your RAM modules and see if it helps. It's also possible the mobo might have blown. A power fluctuation may have killed it. If so, you need a new one
Delete the WMP folder in program files. Then, uninstall the WMP format runtime. This might help...
Sigh.....your hardware is extremely antiquated. The reason why your system hangs is that your CPU is being used up completely(100% as you said), and no CPU time is available to service the http requests. I'd suggest STRONGLY that you get a new computer stat.
Another problem could be your internet connection. See if that isn't running at a low speed. But I suspect your hardware. It may be at it's last leg....
Computer specifications :
Pentium IV 2.4 GHZ
OS : Win 98 SE
Windows Media Player 9Everything was doing well. But suddenly I can only listen 16 or less than 16 kbps mp3 files smoothly and cannot listen more than 16 kbps files. The songs are moving but smoothly. Any solution ???
It'll be great if you can provide more details, ie amount of RAM, HDD type etc. Otherwise, I'm guessing that your audio codecs might have got corrupted. I'd suggest you un-install Media Player 9, restart and reinstall MP9.
Also, if you've got 256 MB RAM, why not upgrade to Windows XP? It has better drivers for all hardware and software. Also, some features of MP9 are only available on Windows XP
Golden, why don't you speak "english" so that he could understand. Hes obviously confused of your instructions. Explain certain terms to him has you go along. This will make the process easier.
Stupidinator, what type of computer are you using? Just curious.
QuanChi2, the instructions were pretty clear and concise. Stupidenator understood them as well. My guess is that YOU didn't understand them, maybe because of your lack of understanding of either the problem or the terms involved. I suggest you look up a computer basics book.
Hi,
I've created a password protected website using ASP for a project. However, for authentication, the username and passwords are passed as clear text parameters to the ASP. How can I implement a one way hash mechanism so that the database stores the hashed values of the password, and not the cleartext? I would appreciate examples and steps to implement this. The site is working perfectly with authentication. I just need to encrypt the passwords.
Also, how do I implement the go to loop? Im using VBScript as the language in the ASP pages....
Thanks.
As you hear a clicking sound, I suspect your hard disk is going to crash. BACKUP YOUR DATA RIGHT NOW and get a new hard drive...
I've had this problem. It happens when the NTFS Quotas are enabled and set to deny disk writing when a user exceeds his allocated disk space. What you can do is right click the drive giving you problems, choose properties, click the Quota tab and uncheck the box labelled "Enable Quota management" (or something like that). This will take care of your problems.
It's possible that there WAS a virus which has now been removed by your efforts. However, this virus may have corrupted critical system files. I recommend that you backup your files, reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS.
I'm guessing that as photoshop was working fine before, his RAM modules may have gone bad. Check system properties and see the amount of RAM detected....
I quote kaiking328:
but it keeps errors and not workin. some say i86 error7. or curropted.
i86 is a typo for i386, which refers to the install source. Thats why I thought the install source may be corrupt. It's not a definitive answer, but it is the most probable
Your windows installation source (CD or network share) is corrupt. Try getting a different Windows XP CD
