Re: I'm not understanding your question here. Are you asking how to use the network feature to copy files from one machine to another? Alternatively, are you asking how to back up the whole system onto a different machine, so that it can be loaded back in working order later? Both …
Re: Some motherboards 'lock' the speeds of FSB, PCI bus and AGP bus. Some need the ratios to be altered manually. But if your board has had BIOS updated it should recognise the processor at default settings and work. Reset CMOS and reboot. See if it POSTs and boots into Windows. …

Re: Hi, There's been a few topics on here about the problem you're having. Use the Search feature: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/search.php? and enter the keywords network cable unplugged as your search criteria. Let us know if the unformation in there helps or not, please.
Re: Moving this to the Windows XP section because this is not a 'dead machine' issue.
in the past 2 months I downlaoded a game called ROSE.
Downloaded from where? Perhaps that is the source of your problem. Also check for any updates to Halo which have not been installed. …
Re: Hi Eamon, From reading this I'm sorry to say that it does indeed sound like your problem is a severe one. Unless you have someone knowledgeable available to repair that motherboard for you it would cost more than it's worth to get a technician to do it for you. And …
Re: Is there a \WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS folder with the Windows setup files in it? If so point the install at that folder.
Re: Install Mozilla or Firefox browser. See if you can access the Hotmail account when using one of those. If so you'll have isolated the problem as one which relates to Internet Explorer.
Re: Contact your isp and see if they are currently experiencing problems. I've currently got a similar problem, because my ISP is having some difficulty with server upgrades.
Re: Here's the instructions. If you want to copy a CD you need to save to ISO and then burn the ISO to CD http://tutorial.burn4free.com/ Alex is correct. The program is garbage.
Re: There is an Add-on available called Microsoft Proofing Tools for Office 2003. Each local version of Office 2003 contains support for a limited bumber of languages. Proofing Tools adds the full support for all available languages. It's got a Greek dictionary and thesaurus, but no grammar checking I'm afraid. Re: Please, no more "Linux is better than Windows" or "Windows is better than Linux" arguments! They're pointless! And they lead to insults being thrown around. Topic closed.
Re: BillyF, to tell the truth it sounds to me like you 'think' far too much. It also seems to me that you listen to people who give poor advice. Goodness knows what problems are on your machine as a result of acting on the poor advice you've heard. What you …
Re: I assume you have the different Windows versions on different drives or partitions? Boot to one of the other Windows versions, Delete the \Windows folder on the drive or partition you have XP installed to, and then reboot from the XP CD and run the installation again. XP should run …
Re: When my pursuit of understanding in relation to PCs takes me to detailed technical 'white papers' related to physics, electronics and other very specialised fields of activity. From a technical article I wrote a while back, about extreme cooling tech and in response to a reader:
Ooookkkayyyyy! Hmmmmmmm I’ll take …
Re: To dual boot you will need a partition or drive to install to. Do not try to install XP to the same partition as Win2000 if you want both. Totally agree about XP Home and Pro. The only real reason for choosing XP Pro over XP Home is if you …
Re:
I'd like to know how much rep points you need to change your rep. I see people with 5 and 6 little green boxes, does it take a lot to get that?
Yes, it does. | |

Re: You need a SATA cable for any SATA drive you install. If your current drives are IDE ones, you leave them that way.
Re: I'd have to agree with Thong Inspector. Extra RAM will help but it will not overcome the fact that it's an older and slower PC. Balance the costs of extra SD-RAM against the costs of getting an entry-level 'upgrade box' to use. That's basically a new PC which does not …
Re: hiya becc. Catweazle's 4,376 years old, and wishes to hell he had MORE time to mess around with games! You're NEVER too old! :D
Re: Toulinwoek, I reckon that argument is a complete load of balls that's been brainwashed into people by bloody insurance companies. It's no different to the dropkicks who argue that if someone runs a red light and cleans my car up, 10% of the blame is my fault because I didn't …
Re: Read the manual! You'll find that for many USB printers you actually need to run the installation routine and then plug the printer in later, when prompted to do so. Plugging the printer in and turning it on before you install the drivers can stuff up the installation ;) I'd …
Re: It's just such a lovely place. Hell, it's even got crusty old Catweazle and narkey Narue talking nicely to people! :D
Re: Those files seem to be parts of an intruder of some type. Please post HijackThis logs ONLY in our 'Viruses, Spyware etc...' section, and that is the appropriate section to get help with your problem in any case. I've moved this topic there for you.
Re: Hi Mike, and welcome. Are you REALLY an 'old guy' or are you another of those people who simply THINK they are? http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread20867.html :D
Re: The best method of all is to boot from the Windows CD, and when you get to the part where partition information is shown choose to delete the existing partition, and then create a new on in its place. The Windows install will format it for you ;)

Re: Hang on a bit! Are these OS's installed to different drive partitions? That's the first question which should be asked. Where are they located on the hard drive(s)? If both are installed to separate partitions, then the Win2000 installation can be removed. Programs installed under Win2000 will have to be …
Re: Agrred. Thoroughly! If you have even a flicker in the supply of mains power during the procedure your motherboard can end up trashed! Ideally, a UPS unit should be in use before BIOS flashes are undertaken. And there is no reason to install a BIOS update unless your system has …
Re: Which drive cable is the hard drive attached to? IDE0 or IDE1? Are there aother drives on the same cble? What type? Do the drives have jumper sttings correctly configured?
Re: Probably not. It sounds very much like the floppy disk is corrupted. Floppies are the absolute worst form of data storage you can use. they are very unreliable. You should consider saving your data to a CD or to a USB 'thumb' drive instead.
Re: You need to identify what display card or onboard video you have in that PC and load the device drivers for it. If the device drivers are already loaded correctly you may have missed loading the motherboard chipset drivers. windows 98 by itself doesn't correctly identify and install all components.
Re: Hi Nightwing and welcome. You obviously have some 'Net nasties' on your PC, and if you start a new topic about it in our Viruses, Spyware and nasties' section I'm sure you'll get help to sort it out. http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum64.html
Re: Ensure Windows XP is fully updated. You should not need extra drivers, as Windows XP can adequately cater to such drives without third party drivers for the USB drive. Only earlier Windows versions require drivers for the device. But perhaps the motherboard chipset drivers are not up to date and …
Re: No, chryslerIII, that's not necessarily correct. That will only work for people who have the hard drive partitioned as FAT32 partitions, because the Win98 boot floppy cannot handle NTFS partitions. And frankly, anyone using Windows XP on FAT32 partitions is a bit silly!
Re: I'll move this to the 'Windows Software' section. I'll also strongly suggest that you don't use that tool if you are a novice at understanding the hidden workings of Windows. CCleaner can detect non-existent Registry problems and cause system problems if not used carefully. Stick with 'Disk cleanup', which comes …
Re: Shouldn't need the MS antispyware tool with all that installed. But I have to wonder - do you have ALL of those set to background scan? That'd slow things down and cause lockups, for sure! Have ONE antivirus program background scanning and ONE anti-spyware program background scanning. Use the others …
Re: You need to provide the EXACT make and model number of your drive, please. Firmware updates are files which overwrite the 'flash memory' in the drive, which in turn tells various components in the drive how to work correctly. You need to ensure you get the EXACT update for your …
Re: I'd suggest that people carefully read the 'Privacy statement' on that site. It's a classic example of an agreement whereby you tell someone that it's OK to bombard you with spam!
Re: Are the appropriate motherboard chipset drivers installed? They need to be installed before the display drivers are installed, or else the AGP bus will not operate correctly.
Re: Give us some details of your system and we'll be able to help you locate the correct drivers to use. We need the make and model of your system, if it's a 'Brand name' PC, or the make and model of your motherboard, if it's not. We also need to …
Re: Nope. Far too busy campaigning against the claims, made by Neopets owners, that spammers should be accorded the death penalty ;D
Re: It is most likely a hard drive problem, but it may be a different hardware problem also. "The Stop 0x7A message indicates that a page of kernel data was not found in the paging (virtual memory) file and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible …
Re: Correctly fitted and maintained, yes liquid cooling is quite safe. But why on earth would you want to use it anyway? Improperly fitted and maintained it's NOT safe. Unless you use a quite expensive and cumbersome setup it's only marginally more effective than a decent air-cooling alternative, and unless you …
Re: Possibility one: You're trying to remove system files and you might as well stop tying. Possibility two: You're trying to delete spyware and other nasties and you've no hope of doing so. Use removal tools instead.
Re: I've mentioned the mess in that section previously, to Dani via IM and I think in the moderator forum at some stage. I suspect we can get away with having 3 stickies in that section: * One dealing with standard system intrusion detection tools and cleaning procedures. * One dealing …

Re: We need to know what make and model of PC you have. If your PC doesn't have a make and model displayed on it then we need to know the make and model of your motherboard. We also need to know the make and model of your display card. |
The End.
