Daz, you have an existing topic in the Windows XP section for this specific problem. It's better placed there so please don't cross-post the same problem in different forum sections. This particular topic is in itself mis-placed.

Best to get a power supply that meets requirements I feel. Reset CMOS and try again, but it certainly sounds like the power unit has been overworked and suffered as a result.

The price paid for trying to illegally obtain software! No sympathy from this direction, and the best thing to do in that situation is to format, install windows and all (legitimate) software again and learn the lesson! Don't pirate software! Cracks and downloaded programs often carry hidden 'nasties'!

Checked that keyboard, mouse and all other peripherals are correctly and firmly plugged in? Opened the case and checked that all plugs and leads are firmly plugged in? This can occur if a lead has worked loose somehow inside the case.

The only hardware issue I can see there is the mix 'n' match RAM. Try removing the 256Mb module and just using the 512Mb on, in case there's a conflict there.

Yep. Let's say that I just got confronted by the Terminator and I was drunk. I pulverized the mongrel. Now I know if I'd been sober I'd have pulverized him a bit better and a bit quicker, but do I care? Shit no! The bastard's pulverized isn't he?

You need to study up on the use of 'Frames', 'Fields' and 'Tables' in MS Word. A combination of these will be needed for forms you create. 'Fields' in particular are necessary for the purposes you mention.

You get tabbed browsing with Firefox, and once you've used that you'll not want to go back. You get less spyware and 'nasties' when you use Firefox, and that's a big bonus. There's no need to uninstall Internet Explorer. Simply install Firefox and when prompted choose to set it as …

errrmmm... You'll probably need to determine what particular modem you have, and reinstall the driver for it. Have you an installation disk or CD for it? First, right-click My Computer and choose properties. If there is a modem entry listed in Device Manager select it and choose Properties again. Check …

It's possible to remove all partitions from it and leave it for the Linux install routine to partition it with the native partition type for Linux. In fact, that's probably the best way to approach things.

Tzwingman, all that's being talked about there is cleaning up temporary files. If you use the 'Disk cleanup' feature on the programs menu (under Accessories) and also regularly use the 'delete Files' feature of Internet Options then you'll regularly remove all sensitive information that may have found its way into …

Does the system work OK, even with the power light not being visible? If so then it's likely just a faulty LED, and not a problem at all. You don't really need that little green light if evberything works OK, do you?

Probably a conflict between the "HP Instant Support" and the security protection on the PC. Either enable the HP software to get through the firewall or disable the software from running - it's not needed anyway! Actually there is an inbuilt check. Try to use it on a different PC than the one it was first installed on and you'll run into activation problems. And yes, it will boot from CD. Nothing is different other than the way the activation code is calculated.

Remember to exit from MacAffee before uninstalling it. If the resident shield is still running, the program won't be uninstalled correctly. Is you've tried to delete rather than uninstall it you might realistically be faced with a format and fresh install of everything to adequately clean up the mess.
