You either have USB 1 ports or you don't have the correct driver installed. You are using XP??? If so, what service pack?

Start hijackthis up and place a tick in the box by the following entry. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file) Then click "fix checked". There is nothing bad showing in your log but I would suggest that you update windows to service pack 3 via …

Do you have a plug in graphics card or is it built in to the motherboard? If it's a plug in one then you could try a different graphics card if you have or can borrow one!

What you need to do is to get the Vista install to delete all partitions then create a new one and do a full format, not just a quick format!

If you have windows7 32bit then the vista 32bit driver should work. If you have windows7 64bit then the vista 64bit driver (if there is one) should work.

Have a look at the motherboard and see if any of the capacitors are domed up or leaking. If you find any like it then they will need to be replaced!

The problem is an effect called swimming. 99.9% of the time it is caused by a faulty capacitor in the monitor. If you feel you can do it, open your monitor up (DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU HAVE AN OLD CRT MONITOR) and look for any capacitors that have …

SLI is for high resolutions, not speed. At a resolution like 1024x768 the second card will do absolutely nothing at all!

1. Should be easy enough. 2. A sata to usb adapter would be your best bet. 3. Yes, but get ccleaner too, google will easily find it!

If it won't fire up at all then it is very unlikely to be a software fault. Do you get anything on screen at all? HP use the cheapest possible components so replacing the PSU (especially if it is a Bestec one) might be worth doing as the green light …

You most likely have a sata hard drive. XP sp1 or sp2 doesn't have support for sata due to the fact it didn't exist when both sp1 and sp2 were made. You will need either an XP sp3 cd or sata drivers for your laptop on a cd or flash …

Can you remember what make the original PSU was? Was it Bestec by any chance? If so, I would suspect CPU and possibly ram damage.

What exactly do you mean by BGA reflow (I know reflow refers to solder reflowing)? Need to know exactly what you have done to the mobo! I also repair electronic items so may be able to help with more info!

Press F12 or F10 for boot menu and select the cd/dvd drive. That should get things started!

Your HJT log is showing quite a few problems. When you say Mbam didn't work could you be more specific? Do you mean it won't run or that it does run but hasn't fixed the problem?

Degauss? Are we talking about an old CRT? If so, the greeness can becaused by a bent pin in the connector or the tube itself beginning to die. If the pins in its VGA cable are ok, then it's time to replace it!

You need to take the motherboard back out of the case and see if there are any standoffs that don't align correctly with the motherboard screw holes. If you find any that don't align then you need to remove them as they will short the mobo to ground!

The mobo is SATA1 and the drive is SATA2. For them to work together you will have to make sure that the drive has a SATA1 jumper setting. If it doesn't, it won't work! SATA1 works at 150mb/s SATA2 works at 300mb/s

Did you make sure that the different length screws went back into the correct places? The reason I ask this is because I fixed a Dell sometime back that the owner had taken apart. He had fitted a longer screw in the wrong place and it touched and shorted out …
