Re: I don't worry about the PR of my site, but I do use it as a factor (one of many) to evaluate other websites.
Re: Send out press releases to both local media and online pr sites. Some of the good ones cost some money, but good value.
Re: Focusing on highly targeted phrases (mostly long tail), both in PPC and organics.
Re: Contact organizations directly and see if you can provide content for their websites. In exchange, ask for links to your site. For instance, if you're a computer store, you could write articles on how to prevent viruses, or how to improve computer security.
Re: Coming up with 101 of these pretty tough. But definitely some fine ideas in here as well.
Re: Important to limit your time and focus on a few. For us: Priority One - Have a good blog. Good content. Good value for our customers. And hopefully generates inbound links naturally. Priority Two - We have a good Facebook page, and are developing a good fan base. Priority Three …
Re:
One of my clients does business with state and local government offices and has the opportunity to link to some of their sites. Are there and pros and cons to linking to government sites in terms of SEO and PageRank?
Linking TO another site does not benefit your pagerank. A …
Re: We use both extensively. Some phrases are just too expensive for us in Google, so sometimes we get more traffic from Yahoo for certain campaigns. But typically we get about 3x the traffic from Google as we do Yahoo.
Re: IMO it would be silly to have a blog and NOT offer an RSS feed. Give your visitors as many ways as possible to stay up to date on what you do.
Re: Neither and both :) I oversee and work with both our design team and our development team. Understand just enough about both sides of this to effectively oversee and contribute to both sides.
Re: Basic strategy is this. Build a great site with great content. Do your keyword research and litter in your keywords to your site. Build backlinks with these keywords as the anchor text. And plan to spend a lot of time at it if you're trying for SERPs for competitive keywords.
Re: Important NOT to get confused between Pagerank and SERPs. I think too often in these forums I see people not understanding the difference between the two. And it's important to understand which is more important. Focus on good SEO and your SERPs. THIS is what drives traffic to your site. …
Re: We don't buy links. Too many other methods to achieve them. But purchased links certainly CAN add value and improve your SERPs and pagerank. I just feel like we get better bang for the buck elsewhere.
Re: People who focus on pagerank are missing the boat. We've got a higher pagerank than several of our competitors, yet they're spanking us in SERPs and traffic. But not for long :)
Re: I spent time before the holidays researching options for my kids. Though the reverse of this. They have nicer computers and monitors in their rooms than they do TVs. So I was looking for ways to get cable onto their TVs so that I wouldn't have to eventually replace their …
Re: That's too funny! As an employer, I figured out a long time ago that no matter how much an employee likes you, they'll lie about missing work. Just can't take it personally. Chances are strong that the employer was already WANTING to fire this employee, and just took this opportunity …
Re: By far the majority of our traffic comes from: 1 - Organic SERPs, mostly Google, some Yahoo and a little Bing 2 - PPC, mostly Google, some Yahoo, some Business.com and a little Bing Now to get good SERPs, we do many things. All the typical things i.e. onsite optimization, …
Re: PPC is easiest way to get immediate traffic, though it is costly. Better have a good site with good content before you worry about traffic.
Re: Inbound links DO NOT hurt you. Never worry about the quality of your inbound links. An inbound link may carry NO value. But they DO NOT carry negative value. If they did, I'd be buying tons of bad ones and linking to my competitors! (Well, no, I wouldn't. But you …
Re: Ashley, my suggestion would be to do a lot of reading and research. Make sure you REALLY understand good SEO. Back to the very beginning. Develop a good site with good content (no matter what your industry is). Have it coded well. It will benefit you later on. Do your …
Re: I'm not sure I have a very high GA IQ yet. I can certainly get at the primary things I need. But you can really do a lot with this information by building custom reports.
Re: If you figure out how to get backlinks in here, let us know :)
Re: I've got a couple keywords that have been jumping around like crazy -- from #10 to out of the top 50. The rest seem very stable. It is frustrating.
Re: Out of the three sites I track, one stayed the same, one went up, and our blog actually went down. Though PR doesn't matter much to me. I care about traffic, conversions, and sales. :)
Re:
It most definitely was a big thing... However google dropped the bomb that NoFollow would no longer conserve pagerank, and in fact would dilute it (while still not passing it through the nofollowed links). So now its back to hiding links through javascript redirects, or Iframes, or other crap.. To …
Re: I like Bing's flyouts next to their results. Though their results appear to be the same as what they produced with Live. Google is still my primary search engine. I use Yahoo and on occasion use Ask.
Re: I would assume (but I don't know this for sure) that good keywords in the alt text for the image might play a part in how much link juice gets passed along with the link. Does anybody know for sure?
Re: My experience is that google likes both old links and new links. We've lost some of our old links, and it's hurt our SERPs, even though we've also been adding new links in there place.
Re: I'll add a couple: 6. Be patient and do things the right way and you'll be rewarded eventually. 7. Keep working. Keep reading. And keep learning.
Re: I think opening a bar is a great idea. And serve free drinks to use bloggers who blog about your bar! I'm there. Just kidding. But in response to your post, social media (blogs, twitter, facebook..) are certainly becoming effective marketing tools.
Re: It's time consuming, but there are better ways to build your inbound link profile than buying links from link brokers.
Re: Kind of whether your glass is half empty or half full. If half of the people of "banner blindness", that means that the other half don't. Personally I'd approach purchasing banners cautiously. Make sure your system is able to actually track conversions from your advertising campaigns. If you can't track …
Re: From my experience you shouldn't use your blog to sell your products. People will not return to visit blogs base solely on promoting products. Utilize your blog to promote your brand and your personality. Try to make the blog a useful experience "outside" of the purchase of your products.
Re: We're just now starting to utilize social bookmarks. Will hopefully have some feedback for you in the upcoming weeks.
Re: We've got people in our industry (promotional products) bidding up to several $ per click. That just doesn't fit our budget or marketing model. Our avg PPC cost is about $.70, and can range anywhere from $.10 to $1.50 is about our max. But with some phrases, at a $1.50, …
Re: No but good search engine rankings for the right phrases will increase your traffic! :)
Re: Lots of traffic is good, but you want quality traffic. Better to have less traffic that converts better, than a ton of traffic that doesn't convert.
Re: We track way too many keywords / phrases to do it manually. Plus we want to track not only Google, but we track Yahoo and MSN. No other way for us to do this than a program. We use WebCEO, though we're in the process of moving over to another …
Re: Are these visitors potential customers? Do they convert into buyers? Or just traffic?
Re: Cost will greatly depend on the parameters of the project, and the competence of the professionals carrying out the elements of the project. Much of this can be done inhouse, depending on how you are able to staff your business.
We use Google, Yahoo and Business.com. And have had a little success with MSN. Though I've got them turned off right now. We had tried others a few years ago, but only received poor quality traffic. (Low conversions.) Are you guys having success with any of the other PPC ad …
Re: Turning over control to the user is important. We have those discussions with the development of our own site. Enhance the visitor's experience by letting them take control over how the site operates. |
The End.
