thanx, finito.. i've got a student copy of OS to use on mycomputer,and not wanting to make duplicates on the 'repaired' sys's. my actual question is to enter the existing windows acct., delete 'old' files, set new user acct, & keep existing O/S intact, wipe the hard drive clean, except xp OS, and then pass the sys on. if not ethical i'll start new.. sG

to do that you would need to go to add and remove programs and uninstall all programs you don't want to leave on the computer ,get CCleaner to clean up all temp files and browser history,and registry entries ,then go to control panel/users and created a new user , then reboot computer and go back to control panel /users and delete the old user acct ,run ccleaner again ,and it should be good to go for the most part

right click on the desktop ,/screen resolution/advanced settings /monitor ,and check and or change the refresh rate ,and make sure color set to 32 bit ,also make sure screen resolution it at correct setting for the laptop

hi, if it were mine i would delete its folder in program file and then use CCleaners' registry cleaner to remove it from the registry ,having said that i don't use skype ,but have done the same thing with many computers and many different programs that would not uninstall! good luck .

Thank you so much for your reply. I slid out the battery, but did not see any screws under it. If that is not what you meant, please advise. Meanwhile, I hijacked her keyboard and put it on mine, so I had the keyboard off. I didn't see any loose screws there. Do I need to remove one of the panels on the back of the computer?

yes remove the battery ,in my case the screws were directly under the battery ,as many as 6 i think and 2 of them were actually not put back in by me , ,to me it almost sounds like the power button it not making contact with the smaller button that is likely underneath it on a small card that connect directly with the motherboard and controls the power, have a look around and tighten all small screws you can see

The program you mention is great..Problem being for this particular case there is NO OPTION to convert JPEG to MP4 that I can see. I do have a tendancy to jump the gun but I did not see anything there...I dont know that there is a way to turn these files back and I dont know why they changed..I am most grateful to you for all the assistance you have given on this site..At times problems like this are difficult to resolve via on line.

did you try looking at the sd card in disk management ,and see if you can run a chkdsk on it .
you can find disk management in control panel/admin tools

now ,try hitting f8 on boot and see if can get into safe mode if yes go t ostart /run/ type in CMD ,in command type in CHKDSK /f

you don't mention if you are still getting the error ,also download and run ccleaner .

Download Ccleaner, Install it, Open it...
Under the 'Cleaner' Section select all in the 'Windows' And 'Applications' Tab, Then click on 'Analyze' And then 'Run Cleaner'...
Do The Same In The 'Registry' Tab, i.e. 'Scan For Issues' and 'Fix Selected Issues', It will ask you to make a backup, DO IT...Then Click on 'Fix All'run the registry one until it finds no more!...Now Reboot The Pc..

winxp would not have any drives for those devices ,so you need to go to the laptop makers website and get winxp drivers for your model

as i suggested ,replace paste even if you need to go buy some ,and do it to all hs,do you have onboard video or is it a addin video card ,or maybe you have both a lot of board do ,if you have both,remove the addin and try the onboard video .

as you say in first post ,maybe its a dead motheboard

remove heatsink, clean old paste from cpu and apply new paste,also check heatsink of onboard chipset and video card chipset , do the same if possible

check under the battery to make sure all screws are installed and tight .check the power jack,and the charger ,maybe the power cord has a problem ,you could take the charger and get it checked for voltage output ,or if you have a multimeter check it yourself ,it may not be getting power to the laptop .did you try your power cord to see if it would work

I have a Compaq v2000,about 5yrs old ,was my daughters first University laptop ,had problem with power jack,the pin inside the jack got burnt off ,I took laptop apart completely and had a new jack install ,put it back to together and the power button would not work correctly ,you had to push really hard and in just the right spot ,turned out it was 2 missing screws[my fault]under the battery ,replaced them and it pulled things together and now it works fine .

sometime over the past year you should have taken it to a repair shop and had it fixed!
the fact you have one just like it helps none ! the laptop has a problem that would require it being taken apart to check for a bad connection and broken parts

I would recommend uninstalling Chrome, and installing the *latest* version.

did you also look around for disable splash screen ,it been so long since i disabled a splash scree i forget exactly,and also its different in different bios 's

safe to disable it .

Look in the BIOS setup for a setting to disable sit /splash screen /or enable quick boot something like that ; once disabled, the
normal POST screens will be displayed.

your motherboard manual should show what combination of ram you can use ,but my knowledge with ram ,i would say yes, it likely will work,but you would not be able to use Dual Chanel mode because of the two differed sizes 2 gig and 4 gig

And apparently it supports DDR3 2200+/1800/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules.

Is there really a DDR3 PC 2200+ ? Or am I confusing transfer rate with Mhz...

im not a ram expert fur sure but i read this in you link .

so if you want good graphics you will not be able to use the pc2200+
and there does seem to be pc3 2200 ,higher i think would be achieved by overclocking the ram .

right click on you hdd icon and click manage, go to disk management and see if its listed there anywhere ,if it is right click on it there ' it may just need to be formatted

i think editing the boot.ini file and removing reference to the other OS should do it .or booting to windows disk and at the "R " recovery console command prompt run "fix MBR" to fix master boot record ,those are the things i would try
