Blue screens are usually caused by a driver conflict ,but can be cause by many different things software and hardware ,like bad video card ,bad ram ,ect ect

Can you please give us a little more information
If you follow these directions you should end up with a few BSOD events recorded and a place for us to start looking -

Please download BlueScreenView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html(in zip file)•Extract (right-click > Extract all) the contents of bluescreenview.zip.

•Double-click on the BlueScreenView.exe file, to run the program. (No installation is required.)

•When scanning is done (usually complete by the time the interface appears), go ...

•Edit > Select All

•File > Save Selected Items, and save the report to your Desktop as BSOD.txt.

•Close the BlueScreenView window... ... ...

•Open BSOD.txt using Notepad and go ... .... ..

•Edit > Select All

•Edit > Copy, and then paste the entire contents of the text file into your next reply.

hi,this a common problem with rather old beast ,instead of roll back drivers ,try getting the latest video drivers from the makers website ,also try and get more ram for it as 512 is not alot.the make and model would have been good info to add to you post .

The fact that its a gift matters not ,as even Gifted computers fail ,pun intended

motherboard link ,it show the type of ram and if you click on the link for memory support it will show brands the board supports
Support for DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667 ,so it would be 800/600 unless you are into overclocking

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

it depends more on your motherboard than your cpu ,so what is the make and model # of the motherboard to help find the model give this a try

no expert ,but what are you planning on using the computer for after its built .
you did notice the board uses a Intel Xeon CPU right ,which if im right would make it a good video editing and Cad type workstation ,not a gaming cpu .unless it has become one ?
i have a older xeon based computer and its a Dell Workstation ,not a gamer

from Wikipedia =The Xeon is a brand of multiprocessing- or multi-socket-capable x86 microprocessors from Intel Corporation targeted at the non-consumer server, workstation and embedded system markets.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Well, in my opinion Win Xp is much better than Win 7, because it faster and more reliable than Win 7.

i know you a signature spammer ,but why cant you at least say something use full ,xp is not and i repeat NOT faster than win7.....period

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

It is intel, I have another older processor Im going to try. So you think it is the processor and not anything else?

no,not positive ,5or6 yr old computer it could be anything ,try it with just one stick of ram at a time

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

the pcu warms when computer is on

assuming you mean "cpu" its not wise to let a non-booting computer run till the processor gets hot .you may be just doing more harm ,it may already be too late ,no way of telling that i know of ,except changing the CPU

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

.
Currently are you using genuine WinXp sp3?
If not don't downgrade...check there are some good crack on net...you can download & install it.. than it will be ok..

it is not within the rules of Daniweb to discuses or suggest using cracked versions of any type software .ty

does it have a stock intel cpu fan like the one in the link ,and is clean of dust ,the way the fins are angled causes it to dust up fast ,did for me anyway ,if it not like the one in the link, make sure its dust free in any case
http://tinyurl.com/d6eepuq

if it not dirty ,maybe it needs to be removed and cpu/fan base cleaned and some new thermal paste applied ,

I have tried many browsers and find the best by far is Mozilla Firefox. It has more features, good add-ons, and plug-ins. I don't like chrome because of how pages are loaded, some don't work, and it very often just shows a blank screen for me.

like most thing when they break, if you want to be able to play dvdsw in you car then yeah you will need to buy a new one to do so .
did you try a disk cleaner ,it may be as simple as a dirty eye, they can be bought at your local car audio shop, and the shop may even do a cleaning for a small fee or even check out the drive for you .they will for sure be able to sell you a new one .

Disable all unused services by going to run->msconfig->services .

in learning windows for me anyway it was always said to not use msconfig to disable services ,instead use services in ,control panel/admin tools .

2GB ram determines the speed of your computer, the more ram the faster the computer. Hope that helps:)

have to disagree with this ,that is the size of the ram ,nothing to do with the actual speed of the computer ,that would be the cpu, core 2 ,2.40mhz

yes, more ram will make the OS work quicker ,but that's not really the speed of the computer ,when we talk speed!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

or even a gigabyte board like the one you are using now ,i always liked the gigabyte boards of yrs gone bye ,assume there still as good

edit ,just clicked on the link above after i posted above info ,and its all gigabytes ,assumed it was Asus ,

always makes me wonder why they don't just make one board that does it all ,instead of about 10 dozen different ones

im surprised win7 64 bit installed on a computer with only 2gig of ram ,i suggest at least 3gig and even better 4gig ,

you have a 1tb harddrive ,how do you have it partitioned ,how many ,how big is each partition ,maybe you could shrink one partition and then expand the one running windows

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

and if that doesn't work try this , info from another site.

the backup fails with the 0x80070002 error :

1) The built-in administrator account is disabled (it is disabled by default in Win7)

2) The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is enabled

*Possible solution (!!Use at your own risk!!):

--------------------I recommend doing both ---------------------------

1) Enable the built-in Administrator account (you can disable it again after backup), this can be done several ways. The two most common ways are:

From elevated cmd prompt type: net user administrator /active:yes

OR
Right-click Computer
select Manage
expand Local Users and Groups on the left by clicking the little arrow
select users
right-click Administrator and select properties
un-check 'account is disabled'
click Apply
click OK

2) Disable the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service , this also can be done several ways. The two most common ways are:

msconfig
click the Start Menu
type msconfig in the "search programs and files" entry box (or from Run dialog box)
select the Services tab at the top of the window
un-check the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
click Apply
click OK (you may see some warnings or notifications, click OK)
restart the computer

OR
services.msc
click the Start Menu
type services.msc in the "search programs and files" entry box (or from Run dialog box)
