My wife's laptop is a Dell Latitude E6520. A good enough machine except for one annoying quirk. The wireless card keeps disabling itself. We have it configured so that closing the lid puts it to sleep. When it wakes up, the wireless card is disabled. Before you ask, I already have it configured to not power off. I reinstalled the latest driver from Dell but no luck. So far I have managed by running a script in the background that repeatedly checks to see if the device is disbled, then automatically re-enables it, but I would rather fix the problem …

Hello Daniweb Community, I'm wanting to know if anyone has an idea on how to distribute wifi throughout a motel? The idea I got is kind of simple but the thing is how do I set certain bandwidth of guests/rooms? so when a guest checks in they are given like 1GB for example then when they use it they can purchase more then the manager just adds in however much they pay for. My idea was just adding users however what routers can I use? Here is my plan: ![Motel.png](/attachments/large/3/61f88438e93033f9ce4bd4008fe5434c.png "align-left")

Hello, Hopefully someone here can answer this question for me. I recently did a server migration for a small business. The have a Ubiquity Access Point that was working fine prior to the migration. Once the migration was done, we noticed the AP was offline. We reset and reconfigured it to received the appropriate IP settings. Users are able to connect to it just fine, however when it comes time to go out to the interntet, we keep getting a message about DNS cannot be found. I can ping the gateway, other machines on the network, and even 8.8.8.8 (Google's …

I have a WIndows Server 2003 unit which runs DHCP. Lately, no one is able to connect to our WiFi access point; and even plugging an Ethernet patch cable into the wall usually results in no IP address being assigned to that device...so no INternet. I'm not that familiar with DHCP, but it seems like we've "run out of IP addresses." Our network is the 192.128.1.1 range. We do have a block of about 20 addresses reserved for our SIP trunk phones, and maybe 10 addresses near the bottom end reserved for servers, printers, etc...but why are the other 100+ …

Hi, I am connected to my internet router and my satelite set-top box using TP HomePlugs. My desktop computer is on the first floor, while my router and set-top box are on the ground floor. Sometimes I loose connection to my router, but not my set-top box. The ethernet interface still works, but ping and packets are not travelling to my router. In such cases I have to wait to see if the problem solves itself, or I have to reset the HomePlug connected to my internet router. My internet router also has wireless capability, and so I'm using a …

I have an arris cable router that supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, I used tools to find out which channel for each I should be using in my case it is cannel 1 for the 2.4 and channel 44 for the 5. On wifi i get a down speed of about 108 Mbps and an up rate of about 18 Mbps for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz as they are configured to be using open channels for my area, but when i switch to an ethernet connection my down speed suddenly spikes to 198 Mbps and upload …

Usually a few times a day, but sometimes a couple of times an hour, I loose connectivity, and my wireless icon displays a yellow exclamation point. I changed my wireless card from a Broadcom to a Atheros, which improved things because the old one never reconnected by itself but the new one reconnects after a minute or so. Still it's frustrating. Not only did I change my card, - I replaced the router - I had the cable company change the cable modem - I have no transmitting devices between my laptop and the router - My laptop is no …

According to newly published research from cloud-based social Wi-Fi software outfit [Purple WiFi](http://www.purplewifi.net/), of 2,540 consumer questioned vastly more were concerned about getting access to pornography than were worried about matters of data security. The 'Using Wi-Fi in Public Places’ study revealed that 28 percent of those asked (711 people) don't use public Wi-Fi, and of that number 27 percent (192 people) didn't do so due to fears about security. Compare and contrast to the 56 percent (1422 people) who were so concerned about being able to access pornography via free Wi-Fi that they thought content filtering should be a …

I have been using a D-Link DSL-2730U modem for over a year now. This modem served a desktop PC (connected directly from the modem to PC's LAN card), a laptop, and three smart phones (by wi-fi). None of us had any problem in accessing the internet from the PC/laptop/smart phones. About 10 days ago, one of the mobile phones (Sony Ericsson minipro) stopped getting the wi-fi connectivity from this modem, though the others continue to get the wireless or the wired connectivity. This mobile phone picks wi-fi connection from modems belonging to my friends when I visit them and am …

Posted this question once and cannot find the reply... Looking for the guidance that would allow one to program a router so that it acts as a receiver. The user could then use a wired port and connect a desktop. Have a Westell Modem/Router Model A90-750015-07 Rev "W" and write to inquire if this device would be suitable. Also have a Linksys WRV-200. Much thanks in advance for an informed reply

My DSL Westell 6100 modem is connected to the DSL line using PPPoE and works great as long as I connect directly to the modem via ethernet cable plugged into my PC. I want to connect a Linksys WRT45SG wireless router to the DSL Modem to create a hotspot. Using the Linksys default setting does not provide connectivity, even after resetting the boxes. My question is - do I need to command the DSL modem to manually disconnect the PPPoE connection, then use the PPPoE function in the LinkSys router to get the router to connect to the DSL line? …

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705. For some odd reason, my computer will freeze sometime while my wireless radio is on, while I'm at my apartment. I have already ruled out a power, memory, or overheating issue. I reformatted and reinstalled XP, yet it still did it. If I disable the radio, my computer doesn't freeze. Also, it doesn't automatically freeze up as soon as I turn on the radio or connect to my network. Sometimes, it may last for awhile, while other times it may only take a minute or two. Just FYI, I am on the wireless network …

I have ATT U-verse i-net runnung a 3800HGV-B. I would like to run my SOHO thru my linksys 160N router. I've read numerous articles about how this can be done, but this 3800 has put a hex on me. Has anyone done this successfully, AND, do you have a clearcut How-To? Do I use DMZ or port forwarding, or am I overthinking this thing... I don't want to screw up a G network that is running just fine now, but the jump to N would be cool. Thx.

This morning I awoke to find all the lights on the router off. My mum says the internet was fine earlier. We tried a few things and in the end got a new power adaptor, lights back on. We're using a Cisco Router 800 series and an Aironet 1110 Wireless Access Point. My laptop wouldn't connect wirelessly so I put the ethernet from the WAP into the laptop and it worked. I then searched how to setup the wireless connectivity as I have not done this before, I followed instructions of typing ipconfig into command prompt to find the default …

I have a Uniden wireless security system installed. The system consists of two wireless cameras and a small, handheld receiver with an LCD screen. The receiver has a USB connector to allow it to connect to my laptop. Software runs on the laptop which allows me to monitor the cameras and record the video from the receiver. The cameras communicate wirelessly only to the receiver, not to my computer. Here's the odd thing - there is constant outgoing network activity associated with the executable, **Uniden Surveillance System.exe**. I cannot disable the wireless interface on my laptop as that is necessary …

Whether you travel on business or for pleasure, the chances are pretty high that you will make use of the Internet while abroad. If you are staying at a hotel then, given the high cost of international data roaming on most mobile networks, the chances are that you will make use of the Wi-Fi connection provided by the hotel. Unfortunately, for business travellers at least, the chances are increasingly high that doing so will put your data at risk. So much so, in fact, that the FBI has now issued an official advisory for Americans travelling abroad. ![dweb-fbi](/attachments/small/0/dweb-fbi.jpg "align-right") Why …

Hello, I've been trying to set up a wireless repeater for my house for the past day and I am stumped as to why it is not working. I have two netgear routers, one is a wndr3300 and the other is a wndr4000. Here's what I tried so far. - I set up the SSID, channels, and security for the base station router(wndr4000).(It would only let me use WEP encryption for Wireless repeating for some reason) - I then enabled the wireless repeating function on the base station router, and put in the 1st MAC address of the repeater router(wndr3300. …
