I just got hit by a VERY nasty web virus. Well not exactly a virus. I clicked a web link, and the next thing I know, this program called 1on1.exe is running on my system. There is now a hidden file 1on1.exe in C:\Windows, and my network connection has been terminated and redialed to one of those ridiculously expensive sex download numbers for which it has added a new connection. It has also put an entry in my registry to automatically run 1on1.exe on start up, but most sneakily, it has turned the modem sound off. The intent is clear. Every time I start my computer, it automatically, and with no sign of anything happening, dials up a really expensive phone number.

If I wasn't so clued up computer-wise, I could be seriously in trouble (financially speaking) in no time at all. So much for Kaspersky anti-virus. Personally speaking, I didn't even think it was possible!!

I have deleted all the files and shortcuts and registry entries, so it won't happen, but I cannot figure out how to turn the modem sound back on. I have found the modem volume control, but it isn't that.

I am running Win98 SE, and if anyone can help me turn the modem sound back on so I can hear when my modem is dialing out, I would be seriously grateful!

you should boot into safe mode, and remove the program from c:\windows

only remove 1on1.exe

do a search for it too, …

i use my d: drive primarily for mp3s. is there a way to group the files on my d: drive by artist? The closest i have come is by grouping them by their first letter. My d: drive is all mp3's no folders nor do i want folders? is this possible?

not unless you already see it in the Collum Select List, if you dont your SOL sorry ^^

well lets strighten this stuff out...

first off a domain name is nothing but a domain name, it doesnt come with anyhosting what so ever.

once you have a domain name finding a good host should really depends on your storage and bw needs :)

I wake up one morning and my PC is fine. Get back from classes, run AVG, adaware, spybot, and CWshredder to get rid of my hijacked homepage, reinstall WMP because it quit working, and with AVG found a virus called downloader.esepora.k. I reboot and I can't connect to the net anymore. No clue why I can't. My internet works because I hook my laptop up straight to it and it's fine. I'm on a college network. I also a few days ago set up a wireless router. Uniden. After I started getting the problem I unhooked it though, thinking it could be the problem, but I don't think it is. Dunno if the router or the trojan or something else could have screwed up my settings? My computer still responds when I unplug the ethernet cable or plug it in. Just no activity. Things I've done to try and solve the problem:

#1. Repair LAC - get error msg (Cannot renew ip)
#2. goto cmd. ipconfig /renew - get error msg (Similar to above, says it timed out.)
#3. Running a program called LSPFix (Didn't fix anything)
#4. Go into admin tools> services> dhcp client> set to automatic and start it (These settings were already correct)
#5. Get the IP, Gateway, router, and DNS addresses from my laptop, and hard coded them into the tcp/ip settings of my desktop's ethernet card. (Didn't work. It only took longer to realize it didn't work when looking up homepages.)

..... ummm?

There will STILL be a bottle neck because the processor does talk to the ram? never had an A+ couse before huh?

defraggin will help because the longer it takes the os to find the files that windows requires for start up the worse off he is. :P

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

they do tell you that if you read the fine print bluedos.

:) always good to read :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

there is a thread on vBulletin.com about it

Check Websters ;D it says Forums is proper

Fora also refers to plants :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

im guessing he has a firewall that is blocking port 80. OR he messed up a setting with his AV

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

if you really cant spell forum. and you DONT know what one is i wouldnt suggest trying to run one yet

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

are you using a firewall?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

2.3.2 has some serrious security risks. i can install a portal (im the second best person with vBadvanced and mYvBindex ;D ask the maker :) )

id suggest going to vbulletin.com and downloading calendar.php to patch the high risk security threat

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

any idea of what the error really is?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

if you ever need to repair it windows will probally think its a "bad" table and not wnat to do anything with it :P

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

lmao

what over powered ram for your processor >.<

the XP 1700+ cant take advanted of that high power ram fyi theres going to be a bottle neck

id suggest defragging your harddrives

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

and its still used to distribute messages via windows 2k3 server so its a good tool :P regardless of what you think :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

very weird problem.... sounds like you went into standby or sleep mode or sumthing odd >.< has it always done this:? have you viisted the manufactures site for bios updates?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

My Windows 2003 Server is Configered for a domain......I'm running webserver on it. I also installed AD on it .......
I enabled web sharring for one of my folders and it works fine when accesing it from Internet explorer...... But when I'm trying to Map Drive to a Web share it doesn;t recognize my user name and pass.......I'm using AD user Account to access a web shares......

Anybody know what i have to do to be able to map drive a web share?

AD? Active Directory?

Did you make sure your user has access to web shared folders?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Yes, I really do. I want to see you make fun of yourself. That thought is so... wrong that I thought you were kidding...

id rather have a NOS with everything off by default. that way i know EXACTLY whats on and whats off, instead of having to pool thought tons of crap to figure out what else needs to be secured

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

you could do a reinstall you would lose any installed programs but if you put your needed data into folders outside of the c:\windows folder you should be able to keep most of it if it comes down to it >.<

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

i dont suggest reszing NTFS ever because windows doesnt like it in the long run

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Alot of people are going to completely disagree with me but I'm I the only one who thinks overlocking is a waste of time?

Now listen when I had a P3 600mhz & overlocked it to 800mhz that was cool. Now this is just from experience.

Take a guy name Juan
Juan has a
P4 2.0ghz
1GB of PC2700
120GB 7200rpm HD
64MB ATI Card
Windows 2000

Take a guy name John
John has a
P4 1.8GHZ overclocked @ 2.2ghz
256MB of Ram
60GB 5400rpm HD
16MB ATI card
Windows 98

Who is going to have the faster system?
Juan of course.

If your going to overclock now a days with 3.0ghz processors it's pointless how is it going to benefit you. Your "mind" thinks your computer is faster also your going to see maybe 3 FPS more and see a speed different of 10 Nano Seconds. Now if you want to beat your record and brag to friends and look cool then thats fine with me. But really depends on the speed of everything else as well as your brain thinking it is faster. Oh yeah the Bus too.

well for the first thing, there both p4's so meh,

second theres a serious differnece in ther system stats and the OS there using, the windows 2k takes less ram (less memory leaks) compared to windows 98

if you matched two systems side by side, …

I hate to say, but in my experience, it seems that only programmers, who rarely have graphic abilities, are interested in validation. I should know, I'm a programmer. Then again, I'm a graphic designer too. ;)

i dunno my site should pass all w3c validations includeing CSS and XHTML 1.0 and it looks purdy damn nice >.<

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Dani... I'm disappointed in you.

Results of Webpage Validation

:P

its just one tag that probally hasnt been updated in a while :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

i dont see any way SOFTWARE on the harddrive is rebooting or starting your computer not with out it already being powered up

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

:( For some reason my computer is just lagging in all areas right now. It works, just slowly.

My 512 MB of RAM is working at 13% right now. Most of the lag occurs when alt tabbing or starting a new program.

Comp Specs:
- 2.4 Ghz P4 Processor
- 512 MB
- 64 MB Geforce 4 Ti3200

id suggest defraggin, that sounds about right to be honest, if you have any server software (apache mysql php ) update them to the newest stable releases.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Any luck in determining the problem? I am having the same thing happen. It started in just the past 2-3 weeks.

my best guess would be that you have some type of popup blocker and or youve disabled javascript

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

i would leave them there :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

yes dani, goggle really does need them
/me points to adsense
it helps to determin the content of the adsense ad's belive it or not.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

ah ok. :) well that doesnt help me much then ;D

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

no no im more than well aware of what adense is, i was refering to what rotated them

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

ah... intresting i take it you made it your self?

im looking for somthing to do banner ads on a new site im working on

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

how are they done?

cuz i notice differnt ones

?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

did you just try DELETE? or TAB?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

if anything it will improve its lifetime, ive had this computer 3 years now and i thikn its been off a month total time between restarts and real down time :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

no try going back further than one day :) just try another day, sometimes they dotn like to work

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

What OS are you running?

If you're in X Windows under Linux, just select the text you want to copy. Then, just hit the middle mouse button, and X will paste the text you selected, wherever you want it to be.

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread2474.html

its working fine on FB/Mozi/IE 6

under standard editior and WYSIWYG,

itry clearing your cache :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

try going into the laptop bios and increasing the contrast and brightness

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

If your are going to reinstall or repair read this and the chances of this happening again are slimm if none.
[thread=2429] CLicK HERE[/thread]

Alaways running on ROOT/Administrator can be fatal.

not always true, if you have no clue waht your doing with a computer maybe

and seto no, reinstall your OS is at the point of no return

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

not to sound the oivous did you try just setting your default homepage in IE settings?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

who originaly created MSHOME?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I do agree with linux for server aspects on some levels, but with windows 2k3 its a very powerfull rock solid edition of windows, :) i even know some heavy duty linux users who are rather impressed

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

then i would guess your windows explorer is majorlly messed up, id say to backup and reinstall

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

i dont think that it does it by default to be honest with you....

and without my second monitor adaptor i cant see howto >.<

any reason you want it there?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

KAzaa and Limewire by them selfs shodnt do anything odd.

however things they download from them can.

First i suggest removing Kazaa and Limewire from your computer.

now a connection called internet gateway doesnt sound like anything weird it sounds like your device that you connect to to connect to the internet, however i dont know the full story behind anything else.

also run spyboy search and destroy plus adaware and do some house cleaning
