Windows actively moves files that you are not using out of active memory so whatever program you are using is getting the attention it deserves.

However if you dont want to using as much pagefile, dont give yourself that much.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

It looks like phpbb with a few vB features + some other things.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I've rolled out SP2 on a few hundered PC's now and only had problems on one, and before that it wasnt so stable anyway.

Windows XP Servicepack 2 is awsome, do not remove it unless your pc is not responding at all

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

No i insisted on using the same ram and processor for testing purpuses, it made a huge difference in Doom 3's gameplay

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Actually it does, there is a much higher ammount of data that can be transfered in 8x when compared to 4x, Ive seen it personaly. We moved my friend from a motherboard with 4x to one that supported 8x. the improvement in game play was fantastic.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Its time to get a new ahrddrive of get rid of files you dont need :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You should be able to use it, most 8x cards are capable of 4x. However you will not get the full preformance out of the video card.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Not sure if you need a cisco firewall, but if you want go for it :D

And if you need some help after you've goten things setup go ahead and give me a ring ;)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Service hours: they will install programs or do maitence outside of their normal agreeded apon contract. like you want a firewall installed, or cron backups configured.

NAS is I think Network Alication Storage or somthing close to that, its remote storage, great for backing up databases too.
You will probaly use 3-4 IP address
server's main ip + two name servers
and if you wanted main website can have its own dedicated ip if you need to install SSL for any reason

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Ill give you 10 dollahs :D

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I've found plesk to be rather cubmersom, ive tried using it in an enviroment for someones server and had nothing but problems.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You need to check the jumpers on the motherboard, if the FSB is set to 100mhz you need to change it to 133 or 166.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

3-6 what? Seconds?

My AMD 64 system reboots in 15 seconds flat.

thats a fine temp
Yes install SP2

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

IE now and forever, :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I don't think you really need the titanium managment services, you could proably squeek by with gold :) cpanel will handle 99% of everything, and if you need someone to setup a firewall let me know :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You need to enable php support,

What is your OS and what version of apache are you running? :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I would remove zonealarm pro, You really dont need a firewall 99% of the time unless you go piss some hacker off, or you run your own server.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You do understand that Colo, means that you build a server, and pay for most of its software and send it to them.

You would be best off renting/leasing a server, in all reality it is much cheeper and makes upgrades alot easier in most resepcts.

For OS choice, what do you work with most? Linux or windows, how much expirence do you have administering with either of them?

I would suggest a control panel software if you are not familiar with hosting itself, and if you decide linux and to rent from theplanet i would go with cpanel / RHE.

A sleek interface is nice, but its the actual opteration of the backend of the system that makes it worthwhile.

Plesk to me seems to be very cumbersom and you need to really go out of your way to do things.

Cpanel is only expensive if you buy the license outright, if you rent a server from theplanet it only costs 25 a month, which is signicantly less than buying a year license or owned license from cpanel itself :)

I would really recomend renting a server from theplanet, if you are going to host get a nice server, no celerons, nothing less than 1GB of memory in the server either.

You will be best off posting for support with vBa at vBadvanced.com or at vBulletin.org

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

might help us to know what version of novell you are using :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

This is a tricky question because generly you should install windows before you install linux, as windows likes to think its in charge. And if you are using the whole parition for linux already I am not sure how or what tools are avaible for changing linux parititon sizes.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I think dani is refering to vBa Homepage, but i may be wrong, vBa CMPS tends to be much more robust than the other options out there at the time, at least in my eyes.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I think phpbb has its place and I am not putting it down as a forum choice, I just don't like to see false statments be putout like the code is bloated. vBulletin 3 is far less bloated than what of vbulletin 2 is

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Ok, i really want this crack you are smoking O.o.

vBulletin 3's code is bloated? How? Every little feature can be turned off, the board can function like a stock phpbb with LESS load.

Not Cross Browser Freindly? vBulletin 3's standard install works on, IE, Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, most KHTML Browsers including Safari, and even TEXT browsers like linx or linx2, and yes, this is from personal expirence, and ontop of that they look just fine too.

Now talking about vBulletin 2's coding, sure i would be somewhat more included to agree with you as most of the coding is done java styled which is very confusing, but NOT, NOT NOT vBulletin3's/

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Yes but 250 things from a stock board that cant do much of anything may still not bring it up to vBulletins 2 features set...

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Most of thoughs features have been in vBulletin 2 since 2.0.0. which was.,.. 2001-2002, and vB3 kills that...

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

If you have the money i would recomend deskpro. :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Try

Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Settings >

Make sure check for newer version is automatic or every visit.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I have a CVS Snapshot on my hosting server. Sadly to say, I havent had tikme to update it an my hosting account ran out I think.

Also, I heard a official phpBB Forum Coder make note that they are pushing to have it out in late December and trying to make it out before the New Years, although they are still not pushing to set a date.

phpBB 2.2 I know so far are these great new features:

Users Control Panel
Birthday, Gender Add-ons
Report Topics and Posts
Uploadable Photo (Not Confirmed)
Advanced Template
New Posting Add-ons
New Advanced Forums/Categories
New Search Functions
Password Protected Forums
*New Legend* Additions
And Much More

You'll have to download it at http://area51.phpbb.com and upload the CVS to your server and install it.

Whoa, were at vBulletin 2, that only took 2 years :P

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You need to remove it though the Computer Managment console then, and not the "user account" interaface.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

What features are in phpbb 2.2 that are not in other BB's ?

and please define "logic driven"

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Casual downloading and installing of what though?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Sounds like explorer is dieing, has he done anything to windows lately? like running hijakcthis?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Doyou have a real reason to delete this new account? it is good pratice to always have a backup account that you can login to :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Why not install mysql as a service instead?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Why not cable? Maybe earthlink?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

For what reason do you need to remove sp2?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

with html i would guess, and do you just mean a table?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Why in gods name do you want FAT16 O.o

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Gentoo is a pain to install but well worth it :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Theres nothing wrong with windows you mook :p

Anyway I would suggest Gentoo if you want to really get your hands dirty with linux and you can read well.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I disagree, this is a comon pratice at theplanet.com and one of the techs who do RHE installs give's /var its own partition of 5-6 gigs, while this sounds nice in theory, it will only cause issues in the long run if you are running a website.

I like gentoo's instructions the best, boot swap everything else. :) 3paritions

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Yeap, and rolling it out on all of the computers at work as they come in for cleaning :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I dont recomend giving var its own paritition it tends to cause alot of probelms.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Why switch to linux? I want to spend hours compiling any programs i want to run, updating tons and tons of config files, I want to spend hours tracking down and compiling drivers for my system. Not to mention most users don't like working at a console / prompt. Linux is not an anwser unless a user is very, very tech savvy. IE System Administrators, or you have time to do alot of learning, not to meniton you dont like games :)

Mac? While it is a very cool OS, even their cheepst computers are more expensive than most people want to spend on a new pc, i can run windows on this im happy.

windows is easy to use and work with on a daily baisis, and by default it is fairly well locked down believe it or not.

The only way to get spyware, is to do stupid things on the internet, browsing sites you do not trust, installing programs they "like" but dont relize what they do, using P2P sharing programs like kazaa, shearaza, etc. The users who are having all the problems with spyware are the ones who are putting it on their own pc by installing programs like weatherbug and password managers and tool bars. There are a few very malitious spyware programs that will install themselfs, but most require a user do somthing to run it.

Spyware would not be a problem if everyone was smart enough to …

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Sounds like your ram has gone bad, Try getting it tested at a local pc shop.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Guess i dont count :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Its going to be one of the last generations of AGP cards as PCI Express takes over... it is a good card none the less :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You can put as much ram in as you wantm in any differnt sizes (within reason).

I would suggest either 2x 256's or getting 1 512 and adding it to your current machine,

make sure you get the same clock speed:)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

IIRC Killer is right :)

php is just an extention of a webserver
