Whitespace for being the most complex...

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

What search engine is it linked to?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Do you have any codecs for playing dvds?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Your problem is not AOL, or any other programs on your computer, your probem is windows me itself.

To get into safe mode, after you boot your computer, a soon as the bios display goes away you need to hit F8

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Sounds like you are trying to do something naughty

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Well, you are over clocking it.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Hi everyone

Very soon i will be putting my site onto a paid host and i was wondering what it means when a host says that i will "get these scripts free" and there are lots of things links invision power board and vbulliten listed.

Does this mean that i get a free forum when i use that host? Because a forum would be a great thing for my site and i really really dont want to have to MAKE ONE !! or buy one.

I would very much like to know who your host is

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

This is a BIG NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I cannot stress things enough, even if you are listed as owner.

When you get your domain name, get it from a large reputation Domain Name Provider.

Godaddy, Register.com, ect

Do not get it from the same person you get getting hosting from. ever.

I have a 754, i knew when I got it I would have limited upgradability.

But it doesn't matter to me so much. My next upgrade will be a new board and new chipset again anyway. :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Creative does make some very kick ass products (sound cards at the least). I have some great logitech speakers that have served me well for 3 years now.

I'm looking at moving to klispch in the next few years :) They are the definitive best. Very high quaility, however fairly high cost :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Hmm, I don't even have a copy of ME around ANYWHERE to even do a test for you.

Overall its time to upgrade to at least windows 2000 or even xp home or pro because of the huge ammount of bugs in ME's program as a whole.

I think your file assiscations are off still.

My Computer > Toools > Properties > File Types >

I'm not sure what they (the images) should be assioated with by default.

However make sure that they are not still being assicated with Quicktime at the least.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

phpBB3 should work OTB with php5 AFAIK :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

If you want to keep a program open (and you are running it from)

cmd /k {DOSPROGRAMHERE}

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

phpBB2 does not run on php5 by default.

Look at sourceforge.net for a working version.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

For such scripts like IPB, vBulletin, and photopost.

Basic questions and trouble shooting can be asked here.

However, for help with importers or anything more serrious you should contact the offfical sites where you should have support for that product.

Thanks

I believe within MySQL 4.1 it supports subqueries.. if thats what your looking for.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Most places won't offer remote hosting (right out of the box), and at least not for free.

If you can get hosting with cpanel, with at least one database, you can add an ip to connect by (allowing for remote access).

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I'm no access wizzard, any reason you want to use access?

Realisticly, its got about a 20 user threshhold for multiple connections.

So if you are planning somthing big you might want to look into MSSQL PGSQL or MySQL

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Well, It had preformed much better when compared to Spybot and Adaware (we stoped using adaware because of the need to pay for the imuunize function).

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Dude, read the dates on the posts.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

dont use phpnuke, even if they pay you, there are tons of other open source cms products that are a million times better.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Windows XP Pro is not that expensive, esp if you buy OEM 150 isn't much

even 300 isnt much for a 3-5 year investment in a computer.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I use this system for all of that I've never in the past 5 years had more than 2 virus, one was from my own stupidity and the other was from kazaa, which i no longer use. IT is really hard to crash windows xp, you need to be trying to do it to make it actually BSOD now adays.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

talk about dragging up the dead,

Its near impossible to crash windows xp unless you are doing somthing stupid (like replacing system files  thats never smart) Considering we run a huge network of 2000 and XP computers along with 2000 server and 2003 server, along with a UNIX SCO box and a few RH boxes, and a few macs as well. They are all rock solid. The only time windows really crashes anymore is if you tell it to do somthing that you should not be doing, like replacing system files.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You know you dont actually need to use the drive lettering scheme if you want, not to mention it supports A-ZZ (thats alot of drives;))

Plus most of the time these days you raid large drives togeter with Raid1 so windows only sees one peice of hardware either.

Depenending on what its go to do is depandant on waht we run.

We have a few linux boxes for some small stuff :) most of the bigger stuff is windows.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

We do not support software piracy period and we cannot assit you :) sorry.

Best of luck.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I'm getting one before the mouth is out :) a mac mini that is

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

If your going to run a windows server, do it right, run Windows Server 2003 or dont use a windows server and switch to some vairent of nix :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

vBulletin is not a free program and we take piracy very serriously, If you need vBulletin support please ask at vBulletin.com

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

AFAIK by default Windows XP Home Does not come bundlined with IIS support.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

IT would be best to do everythinb by hand.

Are you going to be using IIS or apache?

If this is for testing on your local i suggest running apache esp if your regular webserver is linux based as IIS will be insanely differnt.

you can get and run apache + php + mysql really easily.

If your going to be using IIS run it as an ISAPI filter, as it is a much better choice overall, Not a fan of IIS so I can'te tell you how to get php setup, just dont set it up as CGI.

your going to want install php by hand, as most people have a hard time configuring php5 to work with mysql esp on windows, use php 4 and mysql 4.0.20/22/23

:)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I have been waiting, they pushed back the release date twice now, However when it comes out i plan to trial test it.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Theres no reason to use another browse, IE does the job fine, and if Firefox had a 90% market share, there would be more bugs they you could kill with a flamethorwer

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Fluxbox is a little to light for my tastes, i still like KDE the most

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

might want to try ccbill

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

NewEgg 99% of the time is the cheapest overall, as if you order from 50 other places
you are paying 50 times the shipping

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Not all Distros of linux use RPM's but it is a main stream. Anyway, theres nothing wrong with PAYING for somthing you like.

You pay to keep them developing, you pay to have them release updates, if NO ONE pays then no advancements are made.

That being said there is the windows powertoy that is a great desktop manager, I use it at work and on my laptop.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Some How i doubt that is true, as I remember reading stats and tons of test data, they are real work horses

It depends on what you really want to do, if its game and do regular windows like things, go with AMD64 and Windows XP

If you want to do alot more video, music, and graphics editing I would at least consider a dual g5 system.

But it comes down to personal prefrence.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

SATA's are alot faster overall but unless your motherboard has SATA capability and move alot of massive files you will not see any huge increase in preformance.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

It needs to be accessable either though a share or though the web, and then it would be

\\computer\foldername\file.ext

or web

http://name/folder/file.ext

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

For a new nice computer you are going to spend at least 600 minus software and a monitor.

I just built my friend (less than 3 months ago) a new system

AMD XP 2500+ Barton
ATi Saphire 9800 Pro (onsale at 140)
80GB Harddrive
DVD/CDRW
Case
512MB DDR 333

and that ran us about 600 + some other things he needed.

That was a fairly low end system, this was from newegg.com which is the CHEAPEST place online to buy stuff from outside of sales in Brick and Morter stores and otherwebsites.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Redhat is no longer free, older verisons sure, If you need something simple to work with try Linspire or Mandrake. Both are good :)

Sphyenx, there is no "wrong" choice for linux, Redhat is / was the main stream linux and part of the reason linux got so big.

Debian and FreeBSD are abit over complilcated, along with Slackware and a few others.

For a newer linux user you should try using Mandrake or Linspire :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

10 months later...

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Your system amy be limited to 384MB of system ram.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

mmm, well I will never recomend a laptop to someone starting with PC's in general.
However any mac will be a good choice, there should be an educational link on the side of the page, you might need to contact mac to make sure you qualify or you school is in their database.

PC's arnt virus magnets, P2P programs are

running my 4 pc;s over the last 5 years I've had all of 2 or 3 viruses, mostly from P2P networks when i was downloading things i shouldnt be ;)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Keep calm guys, everyone starts somewhere :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

psst really old thread ;)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I loaded up HL2 yesterday for the first time to test my system and see how well it would run, I was insanely suprised to findout that my 8500 plays the game, not only does it play it but i rarely see any lag and of course im not trying to play it on ultra high and i havent turned on any FPS displays but Im not noticing any real slow down, outside of one scene sofar and it has tons and tons of fire.

Ive got the ATi 8500 128MB card, its a second generation of the 8500 and its not a le :D

Still goes to show you a 3 year old card is still awsome :D

(after i did some reading i found out that this card best most of the Ti 4X00 line as well)
