You should be able to pickup a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro for 150 USD...

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

What version of Windows are you running? It sounds like windows ME.

If you haven't you should take the time to run a windows update.

Further more you should see what options you have to move away from windows ME to 2000 or xp

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Well... you added a dialup connection.. but do you have a modem setup and configured? and its phone line plugged in?

You should be able to make use of a VPN client to take advantage of your broadbad...

1. site is aligned dead centered to me in IE6

2. In your site you could take

<table width="760" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" class="bgbottombar">

and change it too

<table width="760" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" class="bgbottombar">

:) remember while its an awsome thing to follow w3 standards and be as complaint as possible, not everything works cross browser sadly.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Did you add the .php extension and the php module into apaches config file

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Your always want as much power as you can afford, 300 watts might not be enough for a new high end system, 400 and 500 and even 600watt power supplys are not uncomon.

I'd suggest anything above 400 for now :)

I've got a 550 in mine.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

That video card is just not a work horse, its a lower end card, my own ATi R8500 should outpreform that in most tasks even though the card is much older, It has more ram and a few other things.

since when is 800x600 high resolution O.o

Hello Eli,

Welcome to daniweb.com

I am sorry to hear about your propblems, there have been known issues that will result in uninstalling SP2.

What do you mean by closes down, and what is the message?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I've removed the referal links...

Anyway.. You must relize that GreenZap is webcash, and not real cash, you can't get it in any real solid form.

Paypal is still the dominating online payment method and I am 95% sure its not going to change with GreenZap

Not sure how any computer users can even get away without a two buttoned mouse anymore.

The quick solution, IMO, would be to run down to best buy, or your local computer shop, and pickup a cheap 2 buttoned mouse.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

One thread on the subject is more than enough.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Tell your friends, put a link in your sig and find other forums of your intrest and hope it perks people into joining.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Have you attempted to uninstall it? :D (if thats a stupid question for a mac please don't be mad, I haven't had time to dive into my mini that much yet)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Eh hem, you have a Single processor system with HT.

A true Dual Processor Xeon system would have 4 processors shown :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I mean you were speciifcly asking for help with a homework assignment :p

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

The documentation below also applies to require(). The two constructs are identical in every way except how they handle failure. include() produces a Warning while require() results in a Fatal Error. In other words, use require() if you want a missing file to halt processing of the page. include() does not behave this way, the script will continue regardless. Be sure to have an appropriate include_path setting as well. Be warned that parse error in required file doesn't cause processing halting in PHP versions prior to PHP 4.3.5. Since this version, it does.

That cover it?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Sounds like your in college and looking at your Office XP Book ? :) I recently did that assignment ;)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Dreamweaver might be abit of overkill for you,

you really need to learn the basics

http://www.w3schools.com

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I must be weird, but I have problems with high refresh rates :)

But I cannot advise setting the refresh rate higher than what the manufature told you to have it set at.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Hi,

On a second round here, I also wonder about chips in quantity. Seems like when you want to order a Mac or an iPod, you have to wait for it. That is bad business. When I am ready for a new computer, and have the funds set, I want it in a week.

Christian

Week? I want the parts in my hands next day!

Mostly its shipping from china that hurts them.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You could write a shell script and have it run via the cron :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Not sure if Appleworks does power point files, or really has a power point type of application to view the file.

It sounds like you got something in your email from a windows user?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Have you tried the software update feature?

Haven't installed 7 myself on my mini yet unless I updated it a few months ago..

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Notice they are using a mssql connection, not mysql, they may need to specify the port to make a connection, depending on the MS SQL server is configured.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Do you have a router hooked up to your dsl modem?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

If your firewire device cannot be started chances are you have the wrong drivers for it, you should try your pc makers website.

If you could tell us more about your pc we might be able to find this for you.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I would assume you'd either need to store it differntly or use a function in php, asp, asp.net or your programming language of choice.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

vBulletin is not closed source, its visual, you can see, modify, edit the vBulletin code base how you want, but you need to pay for it.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

eh hem!

I work for jelsoft :) I am Zachery from the vBulletin community.

There is nothing wrong with vBulletin or phpBB, they are both good scripts developed by professional developers, however they differ in the fact that phpBB is an open source script developed by coders who commit time to the project when they can, and vBulletin is developed fulltime by a set of developers, most of which have a full time job with us.

I haven't see the olympus code base, AFAIK its not out, but I do not think it will totally run par with vBulletin 3.0.x, and not 3.5.0

phpBB is a free script and backed by a free community who devotes their time when possible.

vBulletin is a paid script backed by both a community of users who are also using the software, but also by a paid support team who is avaible near 24/7/365.

But in the end its really your call and your decision on what you think is best :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Awsome, care to share for the next person who comes by looking for the same help? :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

What will you be developing, specificly if you can tell us :)

Do you really want to stick with Pentinums or are you open to other suggestions?

Will this workstation be used for anything else besides programming?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Click on Start > Click Run > type cmd /k nslookup yourwebsitenamehere

That should report back your webservers ip.

Are you running any firewall or antivirus software?

Any browser accelerators?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Sorry abit lost, can you try giving us a bit better detailed question?

What are you trying to access specificly? The Internet in general?

What type of connection do you have? DSL, cable ?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Neither is better than the other,

In my every day work, I could not get along with out several windows programs.(Photoshop comes to mind, and don't even try to tell me the gimp is that good).

But, as far as things go, I work mostly with linux enviroments externally though SSH.

For a desktop? I wouldn't ever use Linux as my home desktop for my main workstation.
Servers, Depends on the application, php, mysql, I'd run linux, unless I needed to run .net apps too then, its onto Win2k3 and IIS and Apache or IIS with PHP as an ISAPI Filter.

It really depends on your usage and what you are used to, do you like playing modern up to date games, like WoW, or Gunbound, or other fancy games that rely on DirectX most of the time?

Stick to Windows, its much easier to manage in the long run.

Linux isn't better, its another solution for another problem, period.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

300k? say good bye to any dail up user.

When its all said and done, the average webpage should attempt to be under 50k~ everything said and done, you could get away with up to 100K if you are using external CSS and the same images on every page, the browser will catch them.

I've personally haven't used this tool yet, but it said to be fairly good.

http://www.xk72.com/charles/throttle.html

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Which part of Office are you starting? Word, Excel, Access?

Have you tried reinstalling?

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Usually, when I take the time to seriously defrag. I remove my swap file, reboot into safemode, and let it have at it, once its done, I reset my swaps and continue on happily.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Welcome, hope you had a better boss than my former one (I had keys to the whole building and root level access to evertyhing >D)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Are you on a slower connection?

DAP, and other programs like it, generally cause ALOT more problems than they fix.

Can you provide us with abit more info about your computer? :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

I think your best options, are to either sit behind him while he is doing research on the net, and when they are not, unplugg the internet, if it is this much of a problem.

I am not a parrent nor will I be for several more years most likely, however stoping kids from getting porn is hard, 99% of the time they are going to be better at getting around the stop gaps that you place.

I could get around most things like Bess (common school proxy) and a few others by using a proxy of my own.

Short of monorting them every moment they are on the pc, or just restricting internet access period, I don't see a good way to keep most kids safe.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Tried contacting cpanel?

They are usually pretty awsome about fixing issues, and their support forums are an exelent resource.

I tried looking around on the cpanel forums, only thing I came up with is a bad yum config file.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You could try running with gentoo (about as light and extensible as it comes).

But realiticly for hosting downloads you might be better off milking a cheap hosting account from somewhere in the WWW.

I believe ASmallOrange has some good pure bandwidth plans that will allow you to host static content (html pages) and files, that are on the inexpensive side :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

As paradox has shown with his example, you left out the database, varible so mysql won't know what database it needs to get its data from.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You may just be expircing the effects of time, tons of programs installed, tons of programs on startup, and a serrious lack of ram.

Can you tell us abit more about your computer? age, specs, programs installed? I need to breakout my W98 book I suppose :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

was do people know/think of ubbthreads? It hasn't been mentioned.

I have it and think it's great!!

:( Welcome to 2000

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You are best off asking for help for hacks and mods at vBulletin.org

and for offical vBulletin support at vBulletin.com :)

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Thank you for draging up an age old thread.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

How can you dual boot from 2 harddrives?

When you install your linux distro you should get somthing like Grub or Lilo and it should lead you how to install it and configure it for multiple OS booting.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

You specificly need a Cable / DSL "router"/

Ther eis a large difference between a switch and one of these cable dsl routers.

A switch will just share a connection and most ISP's only provide a single IP address, which is why You cannot have more than one system online at a time.

Zachery 43 The Geek Father Team Colleague

Then most likely, you do not have any codecs to play the DVD's

*scratches my head*

I know of codec packs that should work but I am not aware of its legality so I will post a link to it as long as Dani allows it
