usually a flickering PSU light means it's either overloaded (by hardware or just old) or in a bad case scenario, is fried

i would say your first guess was right, maybe a capacitor did burn out, if you have a fairly good knowledge about these things, pull off the case and check for any electrolyte, if there isn't any, check for bulging capacitors. Still nothing? Just because there may not be any …

if the cable is damaged, you will have to get a new one. Not all damage can be seen because inside that big black wire is more wires. inside of one of those wires might be a break.

burning ozone? is that sorta like a weaker smell of burning plastic? By the way, it could be any component overheating. my old amd athlon X2 5200+ got up to 100 degrees centegrade.

ok you want more power? get the AMD Phenom quad-core CPU. make shure its revision B3 models or you'll get hangs during gameplay. fastest Phenom at 2.5GHz (PER CORE!) costs are a little rough ($1000)

1) a new mobo requires a new install of windows (not in all cases like mine) 2) MOBO might be too old 3) install the most recent bios off a floppy from another pc.

have you ever had another Nvidia GPU? if so use a proper driver uninstaller and uninstall all Nvidia display drivers. then re-install the latest drivers for the 8600gt.

not really, the GPU doesnt suffer much if the games configuration is set for multiple display enhancement in Nvidia control panel. i only have one 9800GTX and it runs perfectly with dual displays while gaming. but with SLI (2 GPU'S in 1pc) one tends to turn off.

anti-aliasing makes those zigzaggy lines in games and things smooth. Anisotropic filtering smoothes the textures so, for example a grass texture will blend nicely with A mud texture. the higher these things are, the better quality you get but also strains the GPU (7300GT). doesn`t worry me though, i have …

to be honest, you cannot run crysis with the current hardware available on the market with all the eye candy. even my nvidia geforce 9800GTX can't play crysis on very high unless its a small map or level, whichever you wish to call it.
