Hey Guys, This would appear to be a myth, the 20% reserved bandwidth is available to any program requesting priority access. This "reserved" bandwidth is still available to other programs unless the requesting program is sending data. You can check it out here. http://tinyurl.com/38mu9 Dave

Not to sure whether this has been solved or not but from my experience the main problem is the cpu architecture. If for example your old system was AMD or old intel processors (meaning pre Pentium 4) then you have buckleys....I have on numerous occasions put a preloaded Win 7 …

Re: Bill

COuld just be a glitch. sometimes removing the power lead from the back of the pc for about 5 minutes will fix it, this is because while the pc may not be powered on there is still a circuit through the mains wireing and thus the board doesn't lose power …

How do you mean clean? If you want to just clean up temp and old files you can d/load Cleanup 4.52 from stevengould.org and run in conjuction with windows disk cleanup. But there are a number of other programs available. CCleaner is another program which seems to get a good …

I have probably had more luck using combofix to sort out this kind of problem. If all else fails run hijack this and send the log file to the appropriate thread. Dave
It seems to be possible simply with Everest or Aida32 :)
Doesn't appear possible with Everest Home Edition, but AIDA32 does give you your product key. Be careful where you download AIDA32 from as I just got it from Majorgeeks and it had a trojan attached, antivirus picked them up …

If the system is stable enough to run windows, then have a look at the "Event Viewer" in Administrative tools in control panel. Look in the System and Application log. You will find any errors relating to either of these in there. But it may just be your Video card …

Definitely a hardware problem. If you are okay with working on the hardware you could try this: remove power from the tower, remove the cover of the PC, disconnect the cables from the HDD and CD/DVD drives....both cable from each. Take note of the orientation of the cables makes it …

You can also get packs according to which OS you use....just search for either XP Codec pack or Vista Codec pack I have found that these are to some degree better than ffdshow or divx. They appear to integrate better into the system. Dave

Hi Linda, THe explanation of WinXP error codes can be found here and maybe a possible solution. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123 The other possibilty is that your DVD drive is dead only one way to check though....you would need to put another dvd drive in and see if you have the same problem. …

If you can get a copy of Everest from Lavalys you can find out exactly what hardware you have then d/load drivers accordingly. There is a free home edition...you could try that but it is a bit old. Here is the link http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html . Just ran it on my system …

Two things you could try are running Combofix, and LSPfix. Both are d/loadable from the net for free. There are a number of malware programs that aren't picked up by Virus Scanners. When you use Combofix you have to disable resident virus protection, then the program automatically runs and removes …
