Re: Tools -> Internet Options -> General Click on 'Delete Files' to clean out your Internet cache. Also ensure 'Show Pictures' is enabled as mentioned previously. That may not work, but often an excess of 'temporary internet files' will cause problems like this. You could also try a repair of Internet …
Re: Did you try using the 'Clear history' button? Also did you try using Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced and deselecting "Use inline autocomplete"?
Re: Could you provide the make and model number of your monitor please, and also the scren resolution and refresh rate you are using. Your problem certainly sounds like one which is related to the monitor itself.
Re: Did you 'upgrade' to Windows XP (over the top of a previous install) or install Windows XP fresh and clean? I've had Windows XP installations running here for over 18 months now, without a hitch.
Re: NOD32 AntiVirus should be able to clean that one - it's included in the signature file for it!

Re: Some further hints: First thing to check is the web page itself. If you see a "Print this page" or "Printable version" link or button, click on it. That's the best option of all! Some, but not all web pages can be 'fixed' by dragging the browser window to a …

Re: Check that the display card or the RAM modules have not worked a bit loose in their slots. Those are the most likely options.
Re: The best practice to follow when problems arise uninstalling a program is to reinstall and then uninstall it. The problems such as the one you mention generally only arise when files are missing or corrupted, and reinstallation should fix that. You can then uninstall again successfully.
Re: On the Advanced tab, Jimmy, under 'Browsing', ensure that "Use Inline Autocomplete" is checked ;)
Re: You also forgot to read the Forum Index page carefully. All 'Hijackthis' logs are to be posted in the 'Security' forum section!
Re: There's a whole Security section of these forums! Best place to start is there. Read the 'sticky's at top of page, the responses to questions which have been asked there, and post your own questions to get advice. Cheers.
Re: Hi boogy, Your problem could relate to just about any of a thousand and one things, and is most likely related to several of them at once. Re: caperjack and crunchie. You fellas have got it covered quite a bit more comprehensively than I did when I put together the 'Sticky' at top of page about 'Helping Youself'. Would you consider adding the bits I've missed out on to that topic? It would only need a simple link …
Re: You almost certainly have a spyware/malware problem which is causing your system to be unstable. Check the 'Helping yourself' stickied topic in the 'Security' section of the forum, and if you still have unresolved issues after working through the suggestions there you should repost your topic in the 'Security' forum.

Re: Sure you haven't adjusted the monitor brightness down all the way to black? Might sound silly, but I've seen sillier things happen. Re: All you should need to do is empty the Internet cache - that's the only thing likely to be corrupted. Tools -> Internet Options -> General Then press the 'delete files' button. That'll clear out the excessive amount of files in there, which are confusing the issue and causing the …

Re: Tip one: Read announcements and 'stickies' before you start putting questions and comments up for view. You can avoid embarassment that way. Tip two: Use the 'Search' function' after you've finished reading the announcements and stickies. Same reason!
Re: I think your problem is software related, rather than hardware related. I'd suggest the heart of it lies in your comment: "There might have been some other installed software because I let my family use my computer too." You are unaware what's occurred on your system, and in one way …
Re: Oh! If it sometimes goes slow and then shuts down you should really get it checked for heat problems first, mate. That's a classic sign of a processor which is getting too hot to function correctly. Even if your fans are all working fine inside your case, it could be …
Re: heh heh... This one should be in the Security section, so I'll move it there. Re: If Windows XP was an 'Upgrade' install over an existing Windows 98, then you might be better to try a fresh, clean install of it first. Upgrade installs are the devil, and never work fully efficiently. Windows XP on an NTFS partition is the best OS to use. That said, …

Re: It's always best to try using Windows XP's inbuilt 'Scanner and Camera' functionality before loading camera software or drivers. In most cases, the Installation CD can stay in the box unused. Re: shahidhotline, that is a new, separate issue. It sounds like you have a virus issue, so I'll move your question to the security section.
Re: I'm pretty sure they're all 3 volts. Most Pentium class or later PCs should use the round, clip-in batteries. But check on the board, just to be sure it's not an older style one, soldered to the board. I've never really seen those on anything later than a 486 though. …
Re: Yes, HALO is a dog of a thing on PC, having performance problems on even highly specc'd systems. It's also a game that runs better on nVidia cards than on ATi cards, unlike most other games. With reference to the Far Cry question, I'd also like to hear your system …

Re: It's a bit of a drudge, but you'll find quite a few specific suggestions in this discussion at NibbleGuru, where the issue has been reported by numerous people for different versions of Oracle.
