It is possiable ,but most programs to do a good job are expensive and only worth the money if you have very important data to recover .

Virtual memory is that part of your harddrive used for extra ram.
how big is you drive and how much free space is on it .go to mycomputer to find out

I saved the download to desktop...do I just run it now and it will install itself?..

yes you have to click on it to install it .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

first let me say a DVD Rom will not burn dvd's,it will however watch movies ,if you install a dvd viewer software program .
Edit! a search of the model shows its a burner ,did you install any software to run the dvd player and to burn dvd's ,program like nereo to burn and power dvd to view movies

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try combofix ,download it to desktop and run in safe mode ,get it here ,
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix#restore

you don't need to do the windows recover install but its a nice feature ,

another tip. I never shut off system restore until after i clean computer in case something happens when removing junk,a bad restore is better than no restore !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sounds like codex problem,
try this player to see if it works, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ,if it works then you need dvd codex for media player ,did you get dvd player software with the dvd player when you bought computer ,like power dvd or some other software ,if so try install or reinstall it .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

for hotmail ,simply open outlook ex,and go to tools and accounts and add account and when asked for email address type in you hot mail address then you passwork when asked and then import folders from hotmail ,and it will go from there and set it up for you .that simple

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

system restore !!!
you just cleaned a computer of nasties ,you should not have a old restore point! you should have shut off system restore and then turn it back on to rid restore of all nasties .you say restore didn't work ,if you ran the restore and set it to a past point ,you may have reinfected the computer after all your hard work

Hello to all member of this forum.

I need your help guys, I encountered problem with my PC,

1. I can't open any program in my PC and install any programs or I can run the setup but after few minutes it will close by istelf

2. I decided to reinstall the Windows XP still the same problem I encountered.

Please advice what should I do and if you think that I need to format give me also where can I download the bootable disk and how is the procedure for formatting.

Thank you.

how did you reinstall winxp without a bootable winxp cd!!????????

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I think what you need to do first is to find and install the motherboard chipset drivers.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hello, using the windows cd ,boot to the recovery console and d oa check disk , use this command when you get to the prompt..

chkdsk /r
The chkdsk command checks the specified drive and repairs or recovers the drive if the drive requires it. The command also marks any bad sectors and it recovers readable information.

check this ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I know!

I planned on but the WinPhlash software just did it without even asking for confirmation!

Is there nothing else I can do?
Do you think that re-formatting the drive and starting over with a fresh copy of Vista would help? (I know it wont do anything to the BIOS but installing all the drivers from scratch could?

It might ,give it a try

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i suggtest you never use the cheaper one ,if it putting out more power than the laptop calls for !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you were suppose to backup the old before doing the new ,for just this reason !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you are wondering if you need a new case and show a picture of the motherboard ,and its a desktop board is it in a tower style or flat top case.
anyway ,you would be much better off getting a new case and power supply for your dual core ,than trying to use the old one .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

check the hardware section ,raid /scsi controllers

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

cant see that the full winxp install is the cause ,did you follow the instruction to creating a bootable disk .found here .
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R59793&formatcnt=3&fileid=73419

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

maybe Sandra lite will tell you the maker of the mass storage device and you can get the driver from them .worth a try
www.filehippo.com/download_sandra_lite

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

thanks for the advise. I inserted the disk, reformatted and it seemed like it reloaded the windows

seems to have loaded !!! did you get to the pard where it as to activate windows .when it reboots remove the winxp cd from the drive and then let it reboot and let it finish installing windows .or start over and follow the instruction on this site .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hey I have the same problem. What can I do ti eliminate this problem?
Thanks Ezeliek

read the link in post #2,if you don't understand that ,then take computer to repair shop ,or just reinstall windows xp if you know how to do that .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Do you reckon I should install the IE8 now or...? Which one would you reccomend?

And, by the way, I just did a Spybot scan and deleted all the items shown.

Thanks for everything.

Tony;)

P.S. As for the IE7, not really sure how to go about it.

giving your computer specs,a little low ,I would install IE6 and stick with it .IE7/8 is a big software update for a older computer like yours .that is unless it was install first thing after a fresh install of winxp .only my opinion !!
If you want it just for the tab features ,use firefox for that ,and IE 6 for things that need IE

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

My definition of "pain" is exactly this: it's really annoying when I forget that I have more than one tab open, and then if I close any it shows an error and closes down. I have unistalled IE7 a number of times and then reinstalled it. The odd thing is that apparently the whole thing gets back, not to mention the Favourites and Bookmarks, which are all there. It's like I never uninstalled it. And mind you that it takes a good while until the whole download, installation and setting-up conclude.

CPU Speed - (Processor x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1466 Mhz(
Amount of RAM - 448 MB

I have got Spybot indeed, but am not sure what I can delete or not - I do check the descriptions and all that; but am afraid of causing some malfunction. Would it be safe to eliminate what the Spybot detects? How could I eventually tell the right from wrong?

Thanks a lot for your precious help, you're showing me the way...

Tony:icon_redface:

i remove all that spybot finds ,always did ,and never had any problems ,its usually only tracking cookies, if you do a regular weekly scan .
and you problem with ie7 are just the more than one tap thing !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

definitely will !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i have an application that won't even start up because of a kernel32.dll error.

is this the type of file i can move to a different location, download a later copy of, put the later copy of in my system32 file and then reboot and it won't screw up my reboot and my system or is it insanely foolish to do and since the program that will not work is not critical maybe I should take a chill pill and relax.

6 day and no answers ,maybe because you expect us to guess what type of file it is !!! please enlighten us !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks for your advice anyway. I have had it for a long time as well. The thing here is that some stuff from within MS Office applications won't work on Firefox, I'm afraid.

Hugs.

Tony:icon_mad:

ok,you say ie7 was a pain, what is you definition of a pain ,what problems were you having with it .I don't use it myself ,but do install it on used computers that i sell ,as i thing its best installed on a clean install of windows xp.
what are the specs of you computer ,ie: CPU speed ,amount of ram ect ect .
you say you did everything to you knowledge ,did you do a trojan/spyware scan .
Spybot search and destroy is a good scanner to start with .get it if you don't all ready have it .at www.filehippo.com

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

My home pc is a hp running windows xp and the other day it was working normally and now a black screen comes on saying it was not shut down properly and gives me the options of starting windows normally or safe mode, etc. It doesn't matter which one I use because when I click on one it acts as if it wants to boot up but just returns to the same black screen I talked about before. Please help me. Thanks.

insert the winxp cd and boot computer to the windows recovery console and run CHKDSK /R

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Device manager gives me:
Faild to uninstall device. Device may be required to boot up computer.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!
:)

it gives that message when you try to delete the sound device ,when you disabled the sound before ,was it in device manager or in the bios ,if device manager try disble it in the bios ,
going to bed now will read answer in the morning .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

use device manager to uninstall the sound drivers ., get ccleaner at www.ccleaner.com run the temp file cleaner and registry cleaner sections . reboot computer and when asked to install drivers use the mobo disk you have to reinstall the drivers again .
sounds like the updated drivers weren't the correct one to me !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

if you mean a windows cd as the boot cd , make sure its not dirty ,and causing the disk read error .
boot to it again and delete c:\ partition, created new partition and format it ,and try the windows install again

slipstreaming sp3 seems to be a bit broken, so i used my windows RTM cd, then did sp1, then sp3

I slipped it into a orignal sp1 with sp2 winxp Pro ,will try it tomorrow
