what kind of problems did you have trying to hookup a sata optical drive

the freezer idea is so close to a myth it ain't funny!
it only keeps the hdd from getting hot really quick ,so you can get a few important file off of it .so if the drive isn't getting hot when you connect it then the freezer will do nothing for you .if you are connection it to a computer with a working windows ,and it doesn't see the drive then chances are it never will see it because its dead,actually more likely a problem with the circuit board on the hdd. ,

the problem may be caused by a differen motherboard ,from the old and the new .when in safe mode go to add and remove program and remove the video /display drive and try rebooting ,if it boots then get correct drivers for video

:( I am thinking of geeting 2GB+ ram, and I might still get a e-hd

good idea .but i would never trust a harddrive for storage of my important data ,i burn it all to DVD's ,

not sure but i had same problem once when i had a power usb hub plugged into the my board .

reading the stuff in the post from years gone by it sounds like you harddrive is dead or file system corrupt.about halfway down the page look for a post by SAVEDATA 2007,it seems to have answers that helped others fix this problem

sounds like the drive is bad .I suggest seatools from Seagate to check the drive .

I dont understand....When I was having the problem with my laptop starting (still cannot start)...someone mentioned that I should save some folder or system etc, that it would save the important reg codes...reg keys of all the programs I have installed.

The reason I need to find out how I can do this, is because alot of the programs I have, are hard to find again....can someone please tell me how I might be able to do this.

I have this program on cd called knoppix which allows me to see everything on the HD...so if you can point me to the correct folder, then I could try to swing over the data to another pc.

I think you should take the laptop to a coputrt repair shop to have the bootup problem fixed .that is your best option .

did you try a www.google.com search a,search for how to save registry of a computer that will not boot

recently, i recieved an error message saying something like: "failed mfc71u.dll. try reinstalling it to fix this problem". i have no idea what the hell it is but i researched it this morning and found out its something for the task manager. i'm wondering if its connected to another problem i have been getting recently as well which is when i click on my start menu, i go to accessories and then it freezes which then results in two error messages coming up saying: "windows explorer needs to close." the other one is something bout "drwatsonbugg something".
i then have to restart which really is annoying. does anyone know how i can resolve this?

you could try windows updates or something .or go to start/run and type in SFC /SCANNOW ,you will need the windows cd in the drive to install missing or corrupt windows files

you should do some spyware/virus removal scans ,i suggest 2 programs to help clean up you computer ,just google for them .
Spybot search and destroy.

I guess so,not sure what you mean .i use a kvm switch ,i have a router ,i plug 2 cat5 cables from router ,one to each of the towers , i don't network them because the other tower belongs to customers of mine therefor i don't need to actually network them .

Or perhaps do a remote desktop login to your own machine, from one user to another, and run the app in THAT window....

Yes look else where .its against the law to use the copy of windows you downloaded , therefor we cant help with it here,sorry.
as for learning how to download and burn programs to disk do a google.com search on How to do what ever it it you want to learn ,and read how to do it, before guessing how and getting into the trouble you go into .

well if it got bumped hard enough to not out the video card it may have broke something else also,try and reseat everything .like heatsinc, cpu and ram, harddrive and try again .

that program is used to allow large hard drive to be used in a older computer that will not see the bigger drive .,if that is your case then no you should not remove it as it is need to use the drive to its fullest! as far as i know anyway .

i don't understand why anyone put disk wizzard on you hard drive as it could only be use to do anything to the hard drive when used from a cd.
delete partition and format computer using winxp cd or copy the disk wizzard to a CD and boot to it to use it to setup the drive for windows install .

Often times programs will load their .dll files etc. into the systems folder of Windows.

exactly the reason it will not work,programs also share DLL's from other programs or even Windows Dll's that are all ready there ,so its way more that just having the softwares info in the registry

did you chose the hard disk as the boot device when you get this option

simple ,use a thumb/jump drive copy the favorites folder to it and just carry it with you where you go .when you want to use it just open the folder and click on the favorite you wnat to use and it will open with the default browser on any computer you use
the favorites folder is usually indicated by a star icon and can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\your user name ,just copy and paste it to the thumb drive

actually most routers have a spot to click on and it will check for and install the update from within the routers setup ,

Not a quick job but if you put your hard drive in another machine already running windows you may be able to access your files.

also if you plan to use software you have in your first post the 2 towers will have to be networked together also ..I like that the software allow for clipboard sharing between the 2 towers ,with just the kvm and without networking this isn't possible

In fact I don't know. I don't have another PC to try and, like the microphone are built in the display, isn't practicle to transport it.

I'm not a computer specialist but in my opinion the problem are in the fact of the audio chip don't have enought amplification.

If I connect a pair of speakers (someones that have AC power suply) I have a high volume. If I connect the built in speakers of the lcd display, I have a low volume.

So, I suppose that the microphone and speakers of the lcd display aren't amplified. And the audio chip of the PC don't have enought amplification for non amplified devices.

i think you are right on the money,junk plays like junk.
a nice pci sound card and a real set of speakers and mic are in order if you want quality sound, also windows sound recorder sucks ,you need a good program to do that .

Hi lads

right i went and left my PC unlocked friday afternoon and shut my PC down when i got bk in,

came on it this morning and relised one of the lads at work have decided to messa round with the settings on my PC

3 thing he has done is
1) screen shop of my desktop with desktop icoms and set it as wallpaper
2) deleted all desktop icoms
3) locked me out from dragging dropping add/removing any icons

i can't right click to auto arrange or anything

can anyone help me with this.

grab him by the Adams Apple and drag and drop him in front of you computer and make him fix it !

by doing a windows repair he wont lose his data

using a recovery disk he sure runs the risk of losing all,if he doesn't have the non-destructive recovery option !

by the way, what should I copy here after the ram test?

you will need to run the test for at least 2hrs ,it will show RED if there is any errors in the ram .just post back to tell us if it shows the ram as being bad.

Have an illegal versian of xp pro on my computor. Of couse I dont have the cd I would like to remove it and install the legal version of xp home edition Is this possible?

if you have the disk for the legal version,just put it into the cdrom and boot to it and delete and create a new partition and install the legal winxp,follow this sites instructions .

i have a customers E-Machine and the board is gone ,first time i worked a emachine ,I need to change the board ,will be using a no-emachine board what nonstandard components should i be looking for

ok first thing Teh is spelled The .lol
firs thing i would try is to boot into safe mode with networking and go to the windows update site and make sure you have all the latest winxp updates .
if safe mode with networking doesn't work try safe mode ,and run you virus scan to see if you caught something.

oh yeah ,to get to safe mode option repeatedly hit f8 on bootup
