A few years ago my Power Supply for my Emachines 270 went bang and smoke came out.

giving the time I would remove any addin cards and the memory clean connection and replace ,and as stated above maker the psu's on off switch is on .

all 3 are different device and have same or different uses ,so one cant be any better than the other

yes a usb connector or add to a tower computer via sata cable [if its a sata hdd] as a slave/2nd harddrive

ok,here where it all started ,,thake the harddrive out ,hook it to another computer ,backup all important data ,and remove all partition and reformat the drive,creat multiple partition if that what you want ,then put it back in the laptop and start ove install a fresh win7 .
and yes I have all kinds of experience with user error computer problems,im just better with hands on repair ,than miles away repair ,sorry . good luck

only thing i have to add is that older power supplies can boot fans and stuff but because of problems within they don't have enough power to boot the computer fully ,seen many of them do that over the years

you would need to have access to the bios to choose usb as the first boot option

I thought of installing win7 on a usb but I never did it before. Any idea if this will work?

ok, so what options do you get when you hit the Esc key it says to hit , to enter bios on bootup on most computer its either the f2 or Esc key

update to my post above ,I have install full release version win8 Enterprise [from my Microsoft TechNet/msdn acct: ]on my Dell optiples 745 ,been using it for about a week now ,and im liking it more now after learning the quick way to get from app to app and to the desktop .pinning all my favorite ,most used programs to the desktop toolbar ,and the alt+f4 quick shutdown for app and win7 ,my computers boottime is now 17/20 seconds to the start screen ,and IE10 is nice and smooth and fast as well ,right click on the start screen for to bring up the AllApps icon, use mwindows/start key to to switch from desktop to start .or app to start .windows key + X to bring up dropdown list of place to go like ,control panel /device manager /power option /disk manager ,ect ect

also you say you cant get to the bios ,can you tell us why ,what error message if any do you get when you try to enter the bios on bootup

hi, not sure about sony disk ,but I just recently tossed a 3 year old [got a good deal at cosco ,hated to waste them]50 spindle of memorex that rarely worked ,I usually use tdk or Ridata with great success.
why are u using +r's ,see If you can get a dvd-R to try ,
also check the autorun setting for blank media, go to [my]computer ,right click the dvd-rom icon and check autorun tab ,and see what its set t odo with blank dvd's

I suggest you restart it once in awhile ,and I suggest you stop looking at what ram its using when its idleand just use the laptop ,and enjoy it ,if its not performing up to snuff then I would worry and have it looked and not replaced
also ,do alt+ctrl+del and go to task manager and check the process tab ,to see what might be using all the ram when its idle

hi, don't think you can open the drive without right clicking on it and choosing open .
im trying to remember how autoplay works in xp ,its been a whyle since I used xp.
anyway I think if you right click on the cd drive icon, go properties you will see a autoplay tab ,click it to make chances to what programs open what type of disk/files

windows 7 has sata drivers so the changing ide to sata setting would not apply to you ,it must be something else causing your error .are u using a genuine win7 dvd to do the install .

set the dvd rom to be first boot in the bios ,maybe and try again

been fixing and playing with computer for about 15 yrs now and have never heard of having to unlock the bios to add a different harddrive ,I have 2 sometime 3 different harddrive with different OS installed on them that I put into my own laptop,and have never had a problem install a new drive into it . ,sorry

before you took the drive out of the external case you should have hooked it to a working computer and in windows disk manager you should have formatted the drive and set it active ,try that and see if it make a difference

yes a intel i7 has 4 cores,and 2 threads per core ,and if it were mine I would have 8 gig of ram in it just be cause I could, lol.

I think even though your laptop seems to run cool I think with the bigger games its overheating the video chip.just my opinion .
for startes if it we mine I would use a can of compressed air to blow out the heatsinc and fan at least ,it doesn't take much dust to cause them to not cool the cpu and video chip enough.

it should work fine it should just underclock itself to run at 800 with the others

well according to the speccy report it not old ,just a little over a year and a half ,i would add more ram ,and a video card .

i got your problem mixed up with another i was workin on ,the link i posted will be of use to get drivers later .

what was the orignal windows version installed on the laptop .do you still have the windows key sticker on the bottom of the laptop .you could borrow a disk from a fried coworker ,to match the one on the sticker ,and use the key on the sticker ,then go to the link i posted above and get all the drivers need to make it run
