I checked out the site in Internet Explorer in addition to in Mozilla Firebird. Just as you said, it loaded fine in Firebird but IE didn't like it very much. The HTML code doesn't look malicious at all, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. The only thing I …

Could you provide us a link to the site? This way we can see if it really is, indeed, up and functioning for us correctly? ;) Clearing the cache should have done the trick.

Haha! That one is great. I don't believe that the city/town I live in boots cars. However, the University I attend has a private Public Safety department which does throughout campus!

Unfortunately I've seen this a lot with ATi video cards. Do a search in the Windows forum and you'll see what I mean. I would check to make sure that the RAM isn't bad and that you have the latest video card drivers installed. Sorry, I don't know how to …

Personally, I am a mac fan. I think that OS X takes the best of Windows and the best of Unix and combines them into one. For example, I love being able to use Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop right along with mplayer, xemacs, and vi. However, this guy is …

This is not an answer at all but I just thought I'd mention it anyways. I used to run RedHat and just about everything - including Mozilla - was a yucky blocky font. What fixed it for me was installing Ximian Desktop which actually boasts special smooth fonts.

If you need any Linux help, post here in our Linux forum and we'll be glad to offer assistance. Another really great Linux forum is http://www.justlinux.com and another popular site is http://www.linuxquestions.org

When you ran sndconfig, you heard Linus Torvalds welcome you to Linux? (or whatever message that is that plays?) Does root hear sound but other users don't?? I'm a bit confused what exactly the problem is.

Go into the control panel. And then to User Accounts. See if there is a "family.family" account. If so, change the username to simply "family". Another thing to try is to go into the control panel. Click Administrative Tools. Then go to Computer Management. In the left frame, click where …

OK, being the admin around these parts, here is my comment: Computer-related debates are okay so long as they don't turn to cursing and name-calling. However, if there is already a Linux vs Windows thread, just keep replying to it instead of starting 5000 threads all related to the same …

Make sure that the software is G5 compatible. Also, if you're using Panther, make sure it's Panther compatible. This incompatibility has caused a lot of glitches in some mac software lately.

I have never encountered this problem. I would run Disk Utility from one of the setup disks and check for errors on your startup disk. If that doesn't work, make sure the install disks aren't scratched at all and then go ahead and reinstall. :(

I'm not sure about McAfee, but Norton AntiVirus is a bootable CD. You can set the computer's CMOS setup up to boot from the CD. Then, pop the cd in the drive and restart the computer. It will perform a scan from DOS. Unfortunately, with no internet connection, newer viruses …

You cannot downgrade to Windows 98 without reformatting the drive (losing everything currently on the system) and then starting from scratch. Be sure to backup important files first! On the other hand, you can upgrade your existing system to Windows XP or you can format and install WinXP the same …

This is related to the drivers you use. Do you have an Nvidia or ATi video card? Are you using the latest drivers available? Most video card drivers include a control panel to fix the screen as well.

Windows XP Powertoy TweakUI (which can be downloaded from Microsoft's website) has a rebuild feature that lets you rebuild icons. However, I don't think it fixes bad associations. I think you need a registry fixer-upper.

The only thing I can think of is *gasp* a reformat. In all honesty, if this is a mission-critical computer, one wouldn't want someone to be able to override an Admin's security. Apple can't provide easy ways of overriding security. :( Not that I know of at least. Do you …

As far as I can tell, it won't work. Rather, Sound Blaster provides separate made for mac soundcards. However, the sound cards that ship with Apple are pretty good - I would be confident they would work with 5.1 speakers. CDW indicates the following is mac compatible. You may wish …

Unlike Windows 98/Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP have partitioning tools built-into the setup program. Therefore, you can perform an upgrade over an existing Windows 98 operating system. You can also select a different partition to install on. You can also delete partitions and allocate unpartitioned space. Unfortunately, what it …

Firewall software maybe? Perhaps if you have Norton Personal Firewall installed you need to set up rules for all of your applications. That could be the only reason I could think of off the top of my head of why some applications have www access while others don't.

Your computer uses video card drivers to tell the video card what to send to your monitor. When your video card drivers stop working, Windows uses its built-in basic drivers (what you're using). The reason they're so yucky lookin' is because they're generic drivers meant to work with all video …
