Re: I checked out the site in Internet Explorer in addition to in Mozilla Firebird. Just as you said, it loaded fine in Firebird but IE didn't like it very much. The HTML code doesn't look malicious at all, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. The only thing I …
Re: Could you provide us a link to the site? This way we can see if it really is, indeed, up and functioning for us correctly? ;) Clearing the cache should have done the trick.
Re: Haha! That one is great. I don't believe that the city/town I live in boots cars. However, the University I attend has a private Public Safety department which does throughout campus!
Re: Unfortunately I've seen this a lot with ATi video cards. Do a search in the Windows forum and you'll see what I mean. I would check to make sure that the RAM isn't bad and that you have the latest video card drivers installed. Sorry, I don't know how to …
Re: Personally, I am a mac fan. I think that OS X takes the best of Windows and the best of Unix and combines them into one. For example, I love being able to use Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop right along with mplayer, xemacs, and vi. However, this guy is …
Re: This is not an answer at all but I just thought I'd mention it anyways. I used to run RedHat and just about everything - including Mozilla - was a yucky blocky font. What fixed it for me was installing Ximian Desktop which actually boasts special smooth fonts.
Re: If you need any Linux help, post here in our Linux forum and we'll be glad to offer assistance. Another really great Linux forum is http://www.justlinux.com and another popular site is http://www.linuxquestions.org
Re: When you ran sndconfig, you heard Linus Torvalds welcome you to Linux? (or whatever message that is that plays?) Does root hear sound but other users don't?? I'm a bit confused what exactly the problem is.
Re: Go into the control panel. And then to User Accounts. See if there is a "family.family" account. If so, change the username to simply "family". Another thing to try is to go into the control panel. Click Administrative Tools. Then go to Computer Management. In the left frame, click where …
Re: OK, being the admin around these parts, here is my comment: Computer-related debates are okay so long as they don't turn to cursing and name-calling. However, if there is already a Linux vs Windows thread, just keep replying to it instead of starting 5000 threads all related to the same …
Re: Make sure that the software is G5 compatible. Also, if you're using Panther, make sure it's Panther compatible. This incompatibility has caused a lot of glitches in some mac software lately.
Re: What page appears but doesn't fully load? I'm moving this thread to the Internet Explorer forums ;)
Re: I have never encountered this problem. I would run Disk Utility from one of the setup disks and check for errors on your startup disk. If that doesn't work, make sure the install disks aren't scratched at all and then go ahead and reinstall. :(
Re: Hey ... the only way I could think is if by some chance you have a separate Administrator account or some other account with administrative access. :/
Re: I'm not sure about McAfee, but Norton AntiVirus is a bootable CD. You can set the computer's CMOS setup up to boot from the CD. Then, pop the cd in the drive and restart the computer. It will perform a scan from DOS. Unfortunately, with no internet connection, newer viruses …
This site is currently being run off of a (slow) dedicated server. A Pentium III 450 Mhz machine with 128 mb of ram. It has been for all of ONE DAY. I thought this would be enough for only these forums, but apparently not. All 128 megs of ram are …
Re: You cannot downgrade to Windows 98 without reformatting the drive (losing everything currently on the system) and then starting from scratch. Be sure to backup important files first! On the other hand, you can upgrade your existing system to Windows XP or you can format and install WinXP the same …
I was just moving some stuff around on my Windows XP machine. So that I wouldn't run out of room moving between partitions, I moved a bunch of stuff to a Samba share on my Linux machine (via My Network Places in WinXP). I had thought I had moved the … ![]()
Re: The only way I could think of doing this is with DHTML. Check out http://www.dynamicdrive.com for some cool special effects.
Re: You say it was a leftover Norton AV folder. Does that mean that you uninstalled Norton and it was still leftover on your system after the uninstall? If you have Norton still installed, first try to do a repair of the current installation. If you're unable to do so, do …
Re: This is related to the drivers you use. Do you have an Nvidia or ATi video card? Are you using the latest drivers available? Most video card drivers include a control panel to fix the screen as well.
Re: I'm confused what this does ... it keeps redirecting to page 1 and then page 2 and then page 3 ... never stopping in between? I'm lost how this would be useful. Sorry floris but it's 3:30 am here ;) !
Re: Windows XP Powertoy TweakUI (which can be downloaded from Microsoft's website) has a rebuild feature that lets you rebuild icons. However, I don't think it fixes bad associations. I think you need a registry fixer-upper.
Re: Huh??? This forum is not meant for promoting your own website or services. Rather, it's strictly for general discussion of search engine optimization (SEO), and other such techniques for a successful site.
Re: The only thing I can think of is *gasp* a reformat. In all honesty, if this is a mission-critical computer, one wouldn't want someone to be able to override an Admin's security. Apple can't provide easy ways of overriding security. :( Not that I know of at least. Do you …
Re: Hmm ... my answer is to always format. :-D But taht's just me! Incidently what is wrong with the system?
Re: Hey, that's really cool. I like your forums. I think i'd like them even more if I could see them ;) but you can't go wrong with vBulletin either way. I wish I could help but I know nothing at all about sports.
Re: As far as I can tell, it won't work. Rather, Sound Blaster provides separate made for mac soundcards. However, the sound cards that ship with Apple are pretty good - I would be confident they would work with 5.1 speakers. CDW indicates the following is mac compatible. You may wish …
Re: When I upgraded from Jaguar to Panther, I did a reformat because I didn't want to be stuck with all the lil quirks that come with upgrading an operating system. I store my fonts in the /home/Dani/Library/Fonts folder. If you wish them to be available to all users, store them …
Re: [thread]1040[/thread] I actually did a google search for "gstartup.ink" and another thread here on TechTalk came up as the first result. Next time, search before you post ;)
Re: They probably use a proxy server that caches more stuff on their end.
Re: Unlike Windows 98/Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP have partitioning tools built-into the setup program. Therefore, you can perform an upgrade over an existing Windows 98 operating system. You can also select a different partition to install on. You can also delete partitions and allocate unpartitioned space. Unfortunately, what it …
Re: I'm not entirely sure if this will work, but try restoring IE Option defaults via the Advanced tab of the IE properties dialog box.
Re: Firewall software maybe? Perhaps if you have Norton Personal Firewall installed you need to set up rules for all of your applications. That could be the only reason I could think of off the top of my head of why some applications have www access while others don't.
Re: The only way that I could think of doing this is via a cookie which expires ... or by using sessions which keep track of the style in use (if the site has some sort of backend web dev language). This site is based off of phpBB forum software, and …
Re:
OK - I am reposting this thread as I believe I may have placed it in the wrong forum to begin with.
I merged your two threads.
Re: I haven't experienced this? Could you give me an example of a particular thread, for example? It might be that it is more than one page long and you aren't seeing more posts on a second page?
Re: Location: Dah Nawth Shaw of Lawn Giland Time of Blackout: around 4pm-something ;) Time Power was Recovered: My mom said at 5am, but I didn't wake up until a quarter to 8am to find everything back on. Story: I was hangin' out on TTF and watching TV when my computer …
Re: Your computer uses video card drivers to tell the video card what to send to your monitor. When your video card drivers stop working, Windows uses its built-in basic drivers (what you're using). The reason they're so yucky lookin' is because they're generic drivers meant to work with all video …
Re: I searched around the preferences menus and don't think this is possible. Safari keeps a listing of your history. If you don't want anyone else who uses your computer to know you've been somewhere, don't go there in the first place. Sorry, not a solution, but it is an answer …
Re: I agree - I don't think overclocking is worth risking the life of your cpu, motherboard, or video card. Especially with how fast computers are nowadays and how much they cost.
Re: As far as I know, this is impossible because a USB or PS/2 keyboard gets its power from the motherboard. Therefore, the motherboard must be active and receiving power already to power the keyboard. However, it's possible to put your computer into standby and use a keyboard to resume from …
Re: Sorry, never played Halo. But yes - that's what you can do with S-Video output and an Nvidia card. :) enjoy!
