Backup data delete both partitions and create a new 'clean' partition.install OS after full format.
A true geek would spend the money on a decent cooling setup and clock the ring off that lowly 1.87 Ghz E6300 version....hehe!
I agree digitalocksmith, however my friend here said he doesnt have the money not that he are not willing to spend that much
flynismo:"I can reach 3.Ghz for $150 by upgrading the motherboard, as opposed to spending anywhere between $500-$1000 for an upgraded processor (which is out of my budget even if I wanted to)"
but I can do with that link.
networking is always exciting
without you noticing it you might have given/changed permission to that folder back then.Alternatively you/colleague might have copied/moved a subfolder that has kept its permission from where it was copied from.Tricky but always the case, happened to me a number of times
if it happens again:first give everyone full control and from there give desired permissions
scan your system for for viruses and trojans coz the there isnt just a problem with unhiding your folders only.escalate to system recovery if needed
has there been any hardware changes thats can result in IRQ conflict. do you know when it started after what action took place
you cant use two motherboards at the same time with different processors(if thats what you mean).Only if you have the right motherboard it will work. Ill assume you have a socket 775. if I was in your shoes I would sell mine and by a processor that has a Increase in Hertz like the Intel Core 2 Duo(3.00 GHz).
"I have traced the problem to my motherboard by using Compaq’s troubleshooting tools and have a few questions for anyone that can help."
Do make sure its the motherboard cos its not most likely.PSU is usualy the main culprit im not saying its impossible though.
Also if thats the case that your motherboard is bugged, then it would realy be a hell of a coincidence for your HD,Ram,and other external components to be bad.
If your system board is bugged you will still be able to use your most of ya other parts
cheers
Thanx for the info, please keep the discussion open for knowledge.
I know very little about it but back then in College some geek buddies told me I should keep it that way cos once you know it then I can find myself in real crap.....But then again knowledge was never a bad thing
So for the sake of knowledge keep it comin
Thanx guys
Why dont you clone your current hard drive do a clean install of windows on a second drive if you have one(or borrow one quick) and do a clean windows installation...and whalla.... all problems solved in one go
I have downloaded the system cleaner from trendmicro but don't know where to get the other files needed to clean this. Any help?
Location of the files:
sspdaX_XXX(sspda6_634) -http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/pattern/spyware/da6/sspda6_637.zip
lpt239
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/au/viruspattern.asp#viruspattern-cpr
Both files has been updated, but dont mind the difference in numbering codes eg lpt239 thats updated to lpt245
[Follow the links and you'll see see the files on the page-Good luck ]
Hi
open your case examine the system board closely for cracks or broken components.if you find none, switch out your ram in the different slots one stick at a time.also make sure all components are firmly attached
!flashing your BIOS can also help you.
Hey all
I've managed to solve the problem. For those having the same trojan (Mal_Vundo-4) or other Vundo trojan,I highly recommend the following.
First do a scan with the following program:Trend Micro Office scan that-find it @ http://www.trendmicro.com.
If the program cannot remove the virus wich it will tell you, then install a program called system clean witch is a DOS application that can also be found at the above site.
create and store it in a temp folder in the root of the drive you want to scan eg C.
do not run the DOS application yet because theres two more files needed to work in relation with the application.these files are named lpt239 and sspdaX_XXX (note I've replaced the sspdaX_XXX with the file sspda6_633)
The files is zip files and needs to be extracted in the same temp folder as the DOS application.
After the extraction run application and let it do its job.it takes several minutes but did the trick.I also did a registry cleaner after that just to ensure a good job.for that i used RegCure http://regcure.com/.
!!The X's in the second pattern file represent other caracters but I could find that file and replaced it with the above file.It does give a error upon the run of the DOS but it works fine if you click continue/scan
Good luck
Hi
I have a Virus named Mal_Vundo-4 and cannot remove it.I have Trend Micro office scan that currently detects the Vundo, however it cannot remove it as it clearly states.I previously ran vundfix and that didn't detect it.
Any help is appreciated
Thanx in advance
Did your Antivirus / Antispyware software alert you it removed a virus / spyware before this started happening? I am guessing it removed the virus / spyware but didn't remove the reference to it on startup. Use a program that shows you all the programs starting up at bootup to disable this startup. For example: Click Start->Run type MSCONFIG, click OK, click on the Startup tab and find the line the references rundll and hwasgsne.dll. Uncheck this line and click OK.
Thats another good posibility.
take note of the space in the command youre typing: sfc /scannow
Hi
Start windows, open command prompt. With your OS system disk in the drive-type sfc /scannow.Let the process run trough.Restart when done and if you got a winner
Cheers
are the symptoms of my freeze in line with this event id? do i have to reinstall all these drivers or something now?
It sounds reasonable to me.think of it:if the system cant find certain system drivers especially essential drivers how will it be able to react?result=freezes.it can be or not.
If thats the case then a research on that adapter might give common answers.
In the mean time try the following:Restart in save mode see if you can do system restore to a known good date preferably before the wireless adapter was installed.if still needed install motherboard suit.
ill help you with a research on that wireless adapter
if you all will re-read my post i told you that the computer would not recognize the hard drive and after i replaced it (with a known good one not a new one smart___)the computer recognized it. i also tried to install a os and the disk drive will not boot up to start the set up process if i could get it to do anything at all i would be able to fix it but ..... ive tried everything i know how to do im stumped mabye the hard drive isnt good like i was made to believe? the battery was dead but i got the right charger and that problem was solved its what happened before it quit working when the battery went dead that was the last time it worked.
heres what you can do since windows doesn't detect it:
-Have a bootible disk(stiffy or memory stick)-find a bootdisk(files) http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
-make your first boot setting drive (a:)(for floppy)/usb
After the changes restart your machine,it will boot from the bootable device(and not the hard drive)
--the process will detect all hardware including cd/dvd drive--
-after completion it will stop @ a:/
Insert your OS disk in your cd/dvd drive
-@ a:/ type dir
-here you will see the cd/dvd drive letter eg d:/
-Type the drive letter
-now it will open the directory of your OS on the disk
-Look for the executable file in the …
I know you've opened your computer already.your fans and everything is in place,it might look so but sometimes it isn't.when opening it again make sure your processor is properly seated, heatsink is properly fastened on cpu and fan also firmly seated on heatsink.
!!Monitor the fan on the processor to see if its spinning all the way through the freeze
The same thing happened to me years ago when I didn't know anything bout computers
OK understood. If the post detects and displays the Hard Drive then it should atleast handle the installation of the OS.
maby you did try the following for your machine to detect it if not do so:
-in BIOS go to the detection to see if you can detect it from there
-physically unplug and plug it back in
!Is there atleast power on the drive when you open it
??????
Hey
I had a similar problem once.Sometimes it might seem its the power supply but in actual fact it isn't.also check to see if your power supply is giving enough power to the system(there might be lack of power)
re seating your processor and playing round with ram in different slots was never something bad.
It worked for me...Good luck

(Henryhubcap -you got to relax with that smart attitude)
Hi
Do a windows repair if running XP
When booting from cd,when asked(@ blue screen)clean install, repair etc.Rather delete the partitions thats current and install a clean copy
after backup
Hey there
Do what the previous posters recommended.
You didn't mention that for some reason you had to buy a new Hard Drive(I hope there is a reason). If not whenever you troubleshoot, first change out parts with known good ones before buying a part for your machine.
....Then again....everyone makes mistakes Raj....;-)
Hey There
Now that would be a coincidence.OK.The software (WMP and I-Tunes),is it the same cd you installed it from for home and office use.
Also another alternative Question, are you using the same cd/dvd drive for home and office cause than it might be the drive.
Hey there
I agree hardware problem.Reset BIOS first-no result?root to the last known action before the pain started.take it from there....
reply cos it sounds X-citing.
If thats the case consider the some important file/s missing.Im almost absolutely sure the problem is on the disk.Is the disk original
Sounds like spyware.Try what hug said(anti spyware and system restore).Id also recommend windows repair.
^ Better late than never

v Come on man,we waitin
there is connection cos the drivers is on machine B and im installing from A.I did some research,it looks like the problem is software based.theres some things Im gonna try as soon as Im going on-site-will keep you up to date-cool
Hey
Actually you will be somewhat "forced" to get into the networking side.cos the problem your client/user has might escalate from you suspecting missing print driver to printer connection, enabling you to get to server side------And Whalla.....Networking--------
So yes...Its a definite
It didn't say anything on A,no errors,no freeze- nothing-strange enough I did notice the printer goes off-line when printing from A.
hey guys
(hope my thread is in the rite place)
Im in an ancient environment while troubleshooting, hope that someone can provide some expert knowledge.
I have a computer running windows 2000(Ill call it=(A)) connected to a second win2000(Ill call it (B)) computer that is connected to a laserjet 4plus printer(you with me:-/ ).The method was used for quite a number of years as you can imagine. But now I had trouble printing from computer(A),However I can print from printer (B).I figured that Ill delete the print driver and reinstall it but while the printer driver is installing it stops with the following massage: Operation could not be completed
Im working on a tight schedule and would appreciate any info to try.
Thanx by far
Hey there
The best way to determine where the prob is,is to plug your monitor and your video card(if not on board) in another machine.if it works from startup do a win repair(your data will not be removed).
hope to hear from you soon
I'm assuming you already seen this info but just to be on the safe side check this out and see if you get any errors after the scan with the file's performance.
http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/conime
See if you get anywhere with it.
problem solved
There was a file named something like 'BFGHOST01' in the conime.exe and resulted the problem.for those of you that with a similar problem use the following registry cleaner: RegCure
---Raj,thanx for the effort-ill work on your rep points---cool
Check out hte virus and nasties section and there you will get a lot of free recommended softwares to scan your system, just get it downloaded and put it on a usb drive or something to install it to the sick PC. That should get it working.
Raj
Thanx
I did a couple of scans with different virus programs.Raj are you perhaps fimiliar with the conime.exe file cos im looking for a cleaner that can do its job within that file(since thats where the problem lies)
thanx again
Hey there
Great strategy from the previous posters, however Ill suggest going as far possible before doing a clean install.A couple of months from now you might run into the same problem(Beter yet your friend that insist on not having his OS removed-What a friend:D )
So with that said, run a virus program as the previous poster said, windows repair. Its most likely that you have a virus on you machine, but than again it might be something else.
Its worth the effort
hey there
I'm glad you actually mentioned reinstalling WMP11 cos I was just about to say so-well indeed I did.It might just be that between the time the player worked and now that I file within WMP11 got corrupted.
Furthermore check to see if the configuration is right and that the mpeg files is indeed mpeg(this you can do before you reinstall)
Pending reply.have a gr8 day-cheers
Hey guys
I have a laptop with a "bugger".Whenever I start the laptop(Dell) its performance is really slow, so I went into the task bar to realize that the conime.exe file is the culprit of absorbing the processor performance.
I did some research and windows describe the file as essential(fair enough),but that it can also contain trojans, viruses etc.Windows recommended that I get a free online scan. However the dell is not on the network and now Im looking for a program to do the scan.any recomendations on where to find one(other opinions is greatly appreciated)
Thanx in advance;)
Hey there
My friend I feel for you:( .
But hey this one can be cracked.the previous poster is right try switching out ram.
If that doesnt work send me a reply and detail the root of the problem(where it all started)
cool buddy
hey there
There is files on the hd that needs to be included in the installation as the previous poster was saying.
Heres a shortcut to what you can do without having to search the files:
--------------------->This implies only if you backed up your data,or the data on the hd is of no importance to you>---------------------
-Format your HD in another machine
-BOOT from a xp disk
It should work fine
cheers
Hey there
first insert the xp disk and make the boot sequence to detect the cd(dvd) drive first.Without pressing any keys @ boot up(when prompted if you wanna boot from disk)-if windows is nice it will continue where it left before you created the "tsunami"(just kidding).if the installation doesnt continue...well gues what....?
You gonna have to do a clean installation @ the next boot up
pending reply.
hey there friend
How you doing-what a question:D .
OK into business-
-firstly Are you updated with one of the latest anti virus programs, check for viruses cos that is a common problem that we sometimes 4get about.if everything is intact with the same prob...
-Run a windows repair @ startup (still the same?)
-Reinstall the drivers of the sound card(but first remove all old drivers)
Pending your reply;)
have you tried booting in safe mode to do a system restore.if not do so and do a system restore to a known good date
pending your reply
hey guys
it is always a very wise idea to first check if the new hardware is suitable for your system(motherboard).
check the above mentioned
hey there
Its really difficult to say what the problem is since nothing awkward heppened before the problem ac cured, right? If you cant think of anything that caused the prob-to repply, then id suggest before going as far as to buy a new one first take this opportunity to get your hands dirty.
It's sounds exciting,i feel pitied to not be there with you to troubleshoot. If you get to the troubleshooting point first check to see if theres parts thats loose
good luck
hey
k.im going to need the name of your hard drive to see if i can get a tool for the hdd
hey there
can you be more specific, especially what was the last actions before the problem ac cured.
