Have you instigated the Nvidia Control Panel and adjusted the settings there? Reading your post, you didn't indicate how the digital connexion worked - I presume OK and it's only a VGA problem. Is that the case?

Can't you download the required DLLs and specify their location to the installer or whatever's requesting them?

Perhaps you would let us have the exact Dell monitor model number and your graphics card. In the meantine, in the Display Properties, are you showing only modes supported by the graphics card? Also have you tried 1920 x 1080?

Is this related to your hotmail problem or did you solve this one and run into another? As you know, laptops are the least fixable item, particularly when a number of factors are thrown into the pot (hot bottom, 100% CPU usage, application swamping memory, degraded performance a couple of …

Any DVD or one particular DVD? You see where I'm heading. If it's just one particular DVD, wash it in warm soapy water and dry it with a lint free cloth (one that doesn't shed bits).

You possibly can't rule out malware. Maybe you should look at her internet history and see if some dodgy sites have been accessed that could have deposited a corrupting trojan. I would download some antimalware software from Malwarebytes and scan the system. What Anti-Virus protection is on this laptop? And …

Re: blue

I don't know the difference between shutting down "properly" and shutting down "manually". More detail in your case would help diagnosis. Often, but not always, if the laptop is working properly in all other respects, the blue screen occurs (you need to tell us the number and the system file …

Is a jump drive the same as a flash/pen drive? If so, then I've got one (8GB - unbranded) that similarly misbehaves. Not quite the same, but aberrational behaviour with Explorer. What's the connexion between the jump drive and your server? One would infer from your post that the jump …

I'd like to take up Salem's last item - virus/malware. Before doing that, what happens if you get to hotmail via the Mail tab on MSN.com? If you have a malware that hijacks requests to hotmail,.com, that might be an answer. Never heard of that particular trojan, but, you never …

If you search on dv9000 you'll find this to be the most problematic laptop in terms of going dead or not booting. It's probably not what you want to hear, but you're lucky it's lasted 2 years. Others will no doubt back up this awkward (for you) statement. You'll also …

It's the Vista settings we need to see then if XP works wirelessly. Is the Vista wireless card using the same channel as the router? Have you used the repair connection function for the wireless device? Is your Vista fully up to date with service packs, etc.?

Device Manager will show monitors that were connected. So don't worry about that. At this distance, it appears you'vve got an intermittent fault on one monitor. Could be a dry joint; a dry joint on one of the VGA pins (or however it's connected). Really does sound like a monitor …

These ones are always difficult - made so by the machine shutting down. You can't rule out what nickguletski has suggested (for once!) and perhaps you should tell us what AV you use (hopefully McAfee) and confirm that you keep it up to date. Frankly I wouldn't p*ss about. I'd …

I can't do it step by step but at first glance it looks like the Belkin list of DNS servers is screwed. Try putting the 205.171.3.25 as first in the list. The forum in qwest.com might provide additional detail.

I agree with Jazzgirl - get the drive replaced. I'd guess that your undeletable directory might have been sites at the bad sector. I remember suggesting the use of chkdsk in another thread. Didn't that find a bad block or sector or something?

In my experience, the BSOD on startup is due to any (or all) of the following causes: 1/ Two or more devices are claiming the same memory space or addresses the wrong memory space and zaps the kernel. 2/ RAM is physically misbehaving. 3/ The drivers are wrong and are …

I don't agree that XP Pro 64 is crap. Sure there's poorly written (but I concede useful) stuff that won't work in XP-64; it's as often as not the installer that's the problem, I've found. As for drivers, I've got stacks of hardware attached and 64 bit drivers are readuily …

I.m begginning to fear that in trying to solve your undeletable folder problem, you could have messed up your system. Kaninelupus is correct in the advice provided to you. Do you have a Windows Vista DVD? If so you could at least get it to repair Windows. If you suspect …

I haven't got the clearest picture of what's talking to what. But - I think you're using commercial software to talk to third party servers. Is it possible that the servers are throttled and won't deliver at 20Mbits/sec? Each port could be throttled to, say, 2 Mb/s. Sure the software …

I think nobody else likes answering BSOD questions. They are really horrible and this is one of the worst because, as you've no doubt read, it could be anything that causes the Kernel to bust; and that can be caused by anything. Possible culprit is a power glitch hosing something, …

You need to give us your PC specs and the games you want to play. $150 won't get you into high performance zone and to make modern games work well you might even have to downgrade DX10 to run in DX7 mode.
