If you changed motherboards but used the same CPU & RAM as before, isn't it likely that there's a problem here? Most likely the CPU which glitched when you powered off ungracefully. Or have I read you wrong? New components throughout should have worked.

You could get the computer to re-detect your optical drive. I'm assuming that it definitely doesn't show up in Device Manager. So you would do Control Panel/Add Hardware --> Next --> Search for & Install the hardware automatica\lly (Recommended) If that doesn't work you could try and install by selecting …

Yes - the monitor is adjusting refresh rate from VGA to whatever setting the now available Registry tells the driver. Nothing wrong; nothing to repair. My main monitor (LCD) does this.

HDD won't prevent POST. Your approach is sound and on what you've said so far, I'd suspect memory. If I've understood you correctly, replaced (different) RAM works OK, original RAM doesn't. Is that what you meant?

There could be any of (at least) three reasons for this in likely order of probability: 1/ There is a trojan that is corrupting memory. Scan using Anti-Malwarebytes. 2/ There is a memory conflict with a driver or something that has become located in an area that IE wants to …

get the computer back to its previous state. i.e. RAM and CD burner. Take everything new away and see what happens. The variety of BSOD errors indicates a RAM problem to me but it could be driver conflict (though in this case I regard it as unlikely).

I'd buy the virus theory - or the wrong driver in the splipstream disk. Anti-malwarebytes would flush this out. When you're sure there's no virus issue, a reload of drivers would remove suspicion of a corruption there. Have youy tried the slipstream disk on at least one more of your …

I've successfully installed these updates. I doubt that your MBR could be corrupted by a Windows update. I suspect that something else has happened, like a mains glitch furing shit down or something like that. The Windows recovery disk should enable you to FIXMBR because it doesn't need the boot …

Did you read & follow up this: http://www.appdeploy.com/msierrors/detail.asp?id=103 It suggests the following action: ------------------------------------------------------ RESOLUTION 1. When this happened to me: 1. I had to have the mobo, RAM, PSU and 1 HDD replaced 2. I installed an APC Uninterruptible PSU! A power outage can glitch and destroy just about anything on an unprotected PC.
No, it can't be installed. 32-bit software can run on a 64-bit CPU (with the case of x86-64 CPUs), but not the other way around. The 32-bit processor won't be able to understand the 64-bit instructions.
I would confirm this.

What graphics card for a laptop? I think that Rik missed that point. You'll only need more RAM if your applications cause a lot of paging or RIRO.

Nah - nothing to do with a program that demands resources. Are the fans running and not blocked? i.e. is the PC overheating, perhaps? Might there be a metal chad that expands with heat, shorts, and then contracts after cooling? That sort of thing.

Perhaps you could take a look in Control Panel/Device Manager/Display adapters. Let us know the devices listed in there. I've seen cases where a so called "Mirror Adapter" appears in the list. This is an outside chance in your case but surprises happen as you've found out.

If my SE PDA phone is anything togo by, the first thing that happens is that the software goes to 3G/GPRS to locate you relative to their nearest mast. Then the satellites are picked up and the correct location jump is made. In that way, if you lose satellite visibility, …

It could be that the membrane under the Control Key is jammed. In the past when I've had a sticky key, a quick punch onto the key frees it. Otherwise prise the key off, (left & right) and with a cloth moistened with spirit (Vodka will do) and clean away …

Did you download the Vista driver? Should work. http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000465.asp Otherwise basic scanner functions should work with standard Twain drivers. Does the system recognise the presence of your scanner?

I think you've got all the swap around angles covered so that you can eventually narrow it down to either the card or the mobo. If it's not the card, I wouldn't p*ss around with the mobo if you're not happy with fine soldering. It could well be a dry …

When you boot, POST checks everything and compares with the CMOS. A checksum error usually means that CMOS is not in a state of grace and it should be shirted to clear it and then BIOS can repopulate it. If that's not the problem, diagnosing at this distance from what …

I've had something similar once after a power glitch. (That won't happen again!). The RAM, motherboard and hard drive needed to be replaced (on a PC). On a laptop, I'd still guess that you've got a hard failure. You haven't got past the Boot ROM BIOS. So it can't pull …

The acid test is to put a controlled device/PC onto that router and see if it behaves the same as the others. Then it's an external problem (Router, ISP or telco). It's entirely possible for malware to hit two machines. I won't bother explaining why - it's highly obvious.

You can have unbalanced RAM but the performance will be less than having it balanced. However, 1.5GB performance unbalanced will be usually be better than 1GB balanced.
