It could well be the power supply. My understanding is the PS doesn't have quite enough oomph to start, but can manage when the machine is warmed up by the first attempt. I've seen this several times. Anyhoo, I have found these devices invaluable: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=246 They even sell them in …

I had the same infection, and a combination of Malabyte and Spybot solved it immediately. Safe Mode: Reboot, press F8 until the Safe Mode screen comes up. Yes, go to step 9. This is a very nasty piece of spyware.

Use the XP repair install instructions here: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm If that doesn't work, you'll need to remove the drive and copy your files to another machine. This adapter makes it easy: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2329300&sku=M501-1220

Does this happen with any and all picture and music files? If not, which ones are causing the problem? What changes have you made recently? Have you done a Virus/Spyware scan? Is your system up to date? Look in Control Panel/Admin Tools/Event viewer for System or Application errors in red.

This sounds like proof of Darwinian evolution. Some people just can't be protected from themselves. In the larger sense, I'd suggest some mandatory training with gun purchases.

What OS? If XP, try recovery console. Fixboot may solve your problem. In any case, I'd copy those files before doing anything else. I don't think this is a hardware problem, as you can see the files and it passes the Seatoools test. I don't think an image would help.

Apparently, you need a 64 bit driver that doesn't exist, so you're out of luck. Vista will run 32 bit programs in almost all cases.

Using toy guns is an excellent "teaching moment". It's far too easy to get a weapon with no training at all, and I suspect that's part of the reason for accidental shootings. I took an NRA course before they turned into a Right-wing propaganda machine, and it was very good. …
