One question that no one has seemed to ask.. Is this going to be used for an Intranet or Internet web server ?? If you are going to use it for an Internet server, I would recommend against putting the database on the same server.

Did you go from an onboard video to an actual card? You might need to boot to safe mode to get the standard VGA drivers to come up, then reinstall the drivers for the new card with the standard VGA drivers in place.

Just do a system restore using the CD's that came with the PC from Dell. You should have 2 CD's ( 1 is windows install, 2 is the drivers and Dell applications CD ). If you do not have these CD's please call Dell and you can buy them there.

How much memory did you dedicate in the VM setup? Remember that total memory here is : Total PC memory = memory used by OS + memory used by the VM. Make sure you are not over that formula.

You will need to contact Microsoft to get you a key, never seen a downloadable version of any OS beside the Linux OS's. Sounds like a hacked copy to me.

Depends on what kind of firewall you are talking about, also what kind of routers/switches. Could be using ACL's as well as a firewall.

Are you using it as a wireless access point or a wireless router. If you are using as a wireless router, make sure you setup the network portions correctly. By default netgear uses the 192.168.1.x network, on the wireless router, you need to change the wireless network to a 192.168.2.x …

It is best just to reformat the drive and then install Ubantu, unless you need the file structure intact. Most people do not. You do not have to uninstall Windows 2000, just reformat over the C drive using the Linux CD/DvD
