Re: If I were you, I'd just scrap it. But then again, I have zero zip nada electrical engineering (or any sort of) experience. Therefore, I'd consider it not worth it to crack open a monitor to investigate it. Check with TallCool1 here on the forums. He's really good with this …
Re: What type of printer do you have? You'll have to go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers for your printer. For example, if it's a canon printer, look up the specific model at canon.com ... hp, do the same thing at hp.com. Download the latest drivers, install …
Re: Just webmin or is other stuff slow too? (e.g. telnet/ssh)
Re: I just compiled your program with gcc on my linux machine, and it told me that a bool is one byte. Sorry, I have no recent experience with Borland's compiler tools - the last time I used Turbo C++ 4.5 I was back in 10th grade.
Congratulations to CrazyIrishman for being the 1,000th member to register at TechTalk! I hope everyone has had as much fun this past year and a half as I have. Keep up the great work! I'm sorry for being so absent from the forums since school started. So much homework, so …
Re: Regardless of what you use to write your c++ code, you need a compiler to turn it into an executable. C++ 7? What compiler is that? The Borland Turbo C++ compilers/ides are really nice, and a lot more straight-to-the-point (IMHO) than Microsoft Visual C++, for example. Basically, you're looking at …

Re: Only dvd-roms can read standard DVDs. I'm not sure if you need a DVD+R/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW drive to read DVD-Rs. (Most likely not, and that most modern DVD-ROMs should be able to do the trick there.) However, standard cd-roms or cd-rws won't be able to read your dvd-r.

Re: You'll have to install drivers for your video card. Do you know who makes it? ATI or Nvidia, etc?? Go to the website and download the drivers. Otherwise, do you have video card drivers that came with your system/card? I don't think Windows 98 has built-in drivers you can use, …
Re: Do you mean that you minimize Internet Explorer to the taskbar instead of closing it completely? Do you click the little icon with the X in it. Try going to the File menu, and then to Close. Does the same thing happen?
Re: I'm a bit confused what you mean? Do you mean you want to be able to load an entire program's instructions into RAM??
Re: Perhaps this is a software problem? If you're using Windows, boot into safe mode and then just leave it for a lil over an hour. Don't open any programs, etc. (Enough time to convince yourself it won't happen if you're in safe mode).
Re: graphics cards have a GPU, graphical processing unit, so they can use hardware rendering without relying heavily on CPU time
Re: Gee I'm sorry 'bout that. Tough luck. A part of a motherboard can be fried meaning that some things will work while others won't. Lights powering on, unfortunately, doesn't mean your motherboard is all good 2 go. Unfortunately, I'm no hardware expert. Perhaps someone else here would have some more …
I was just browsing The Wayback Machine and came upon (thanks to Dan) the old version of TechTalk back at our launch in February 2002. It's been a long year and a half with even more designs that I can count. Does anyone remember this guy .... ?
Re: I don't know if this makes sense or is what you're asking for. However, could you encrypt the file? And then provide a decryption algorithm in the exe file. If the right information is provided, the contents of the file are read into some sort of buffer and decrypted? Perhaps …
Re: DriveImage 3 is a pretty old version, no? If you're using the NTFS file system with Win2k, make sure drive image has support for it. That's the first thing. Second thing is, why can't you access the hard drive without mounting it?? I'm sorta confused. I've only mounted filesystems in …
Re: Ooh! I never knew about that lil trick. I just tried it. Kewl stuff!
Re: As in "other visual styles" are you referring to TGTSoft's StyleXP?
Re: You can change the environment ... by changing the operating system. If it's that important to you, dual boot Windows XP with an older version of Windows that has 16-bit support.
Re: Please don't double post. Everyone can visit [thread]912[/thread] in the Internet Explorer forum
Re: It seems like a permissions problem. Windows NT/2000/XP have multiple user support, meaning that users have ownership of files. Right click the files and view their properties. Are you their owner? Are you the owner of the new 160gb drive?

Re: As far as I know, and I could be wrong, any modem should work so long as it's not a WinModem (software-based modem)
Re: Sorry, I can't help :( No experience with sendmail. I guess I don't need to say to check out man pages at sendmail.org. Aside from that, check out the RedHat documentation on redhat.com. They're often pretty good and easily adaptable to other linux distros as well.
Re: Perhaps if you flash your BIOS and something goes wrong, you have a back-up copy of the BIOS that could be automatically transferred to the corrupt BIOS. Just an idea. I've never heard of one either.
Re: You would need to check with the motherboard manufacturer to see what your particular motherboard is capable of. However, if it's a PII motherboard, it can definitely only support a PII processor.
Re: Sorry, I have no experience with workgroupmail. Have you changed any network settings in that amount of time?
Re: Are there any windows updates still left to do? This started happening right after you used windows update? Try the mozilla or opera web browsers - they're really good alternatives and a lot nicer than netscape is. (especially opera is very feature-rich)
Re: Quite interesting. I, too, used babelfish to do some translating but still could only barely make out the story. I didn't really have a lot of time to look at it though. Perhaps I'll take a second glance later. Thanks for the scoop!
I'm using IE6 SP1 with Windows XP Pro. This just started happening recently (I think when I updated some components via Windows Update but I'm not sure exactly). But now if I try to view the source of a webpage (by right clicking or from the view menu) nothing happens …

Re: Do you know what sound card you're using? If it's a SoundBlaster, go to www.creative.com and download the latest drivers from there. Any other sound card, go to the appropriate site and download the latest drivers. Perhaps the drivers are installed and sound is just disabled by default? Go into …
Re: Now that you have a clean system, what sorta things are going wrong? Perhaps this is a hardware problem?
Re: The motherboard is a Shuttle AB60R?? I've never heard of this. Perhaps you could send us a link to the motherboard specs? Are you sure your motherboard supports DDR400 RAM, SATA hdds? I don't use SATA hdds, but I use a SATA raid card and SATA-->IDE conveters. And boy oh …
Re: Right now, here are my current plans/ideas for the tutorials. Feel free to let me know your input :) What I was thinking is that any user could submit tutorials online via either e-mailing me or via a textbox on a submission form, etc. They'd automatically just go into some …
Re: In the device manager, does the card have an exclamation point next to it?
Re: What version of Windows are you using? Right click on "My Network Places" on your desktop and go to "Properties". Select your LAN connection, right click it, and choose to set as default.
Re: I'm sure this isn't the answer you were looking for either ... but you do have "synchronize guest with host" enabled, right? Perhaps you can use some other time synchronization utility? Sorry, I've never heard of ntpd? Is that supposed to be some sorta time sync daemon?

Techtalk styles are back in full swing ... once again is the option between the flat and the 3D style. While the default remains the flat view, simply go into your profile to view the 3d version of the site! Enjoy!
Re: I read your original post right after you first wrote it but sorry, no experience with Word macros other than I know what they are.
Re: I wouldn't recommend doing this. It's much better to let Windows XP find and detect all the correct drivers (including cpu, bus, mobo, etc) on a clean install. I once moved a hdd with WinXP on it from an Intel machine to an AMD machine. It loaded fine the first … |
