is this forms-based, that is, does each user update tables through forms? or does the user simply open a table? is this a relational database? are the tables linked by foreign keys? or is this just a bunch of tables?

likewise - norton may be good at what it does, but it sucks up so many cpu cycles that it doesn't let you do what you want to do, which is use your computer... if you want commercial software, mcafee or eset nod are somewhat lighter and much lighter (respectively)

start off by giving a better description... as a totally blind guess, if you are running dhcp, i'd say one machine had the dup address, was off for a while, and dhcp assigned the address elsewhere. turn off both pc's. go into dhcp, delete the lease. restart both pc's. voila'!
