What is the BIOS on your PC. AMI,Award,Phoenix,IBM or other. AMI/ Award/Phoenix 1 long beep indicates memory error. Try cleaning and reseating memory modules. IBM 1 continuous beep indicates failing Power Supply (or worse scenario failed motherboard)

Check that the "nv4_disp.dll" is not duplicated in the C:/Windows/System32 folder. If it is remove all but the latest. Good Luck.

You don't say what the OS is. However, the system sounds may be set so that it will bleep every time a program loads. This can be easily changed (control panel/sounds} and does not indicate any problems with your laptop. Anyway- if it isn't broke-why fix it ?

Media control Device is listed 4 times. This can cause problems. Boot into Safe Mode and remove all 4 media control devices (you may even find more !). Reboot normally and let windows detect devices. Re-install drivers if required.

The fact that you say that the two beeps are faint might indicate that the CMOS battery needs replacing. Otherwise 2 beeps- 1. Memory error -check and clean memory modules. 2. Possible low power supply (PSU replacement).

If you have IE7 installed- update to IE8. If IE8 is already installed -downgrade to IE7 and re-install IE8. You may have to do this in safe mode. Hope this works.

The update KB925902 is known to cause this problem. If it has recently been installed - remove it. Reboot and see if problem remains. If the BSOD has gone and you want the update -try reinstalling the update in Safe Mode.

Firstly, I would run a virus/spyware/trojan check. If this is clear - try System Restore- choosing a point where as far as you know there was no problem.

The "missing" 5.5GB is probably a hidden partition that contains backup files for your computer. I would not concern myself.

1.Open the Hardware Manager to see if there are any conflicts. If so disable unwanted entry. 2.Go to Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices/Audio. Check that correct device is shown.

Perhaps info this may be of help- The Stop 0x24 message indicates that a problem occurred within Ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives. A similar Stop message, 0x23, exists for the file allocation table (FAT16 or FAT32) file systems. …

Does the odor come from the charger or the laptop? If it comes from the charger then you should replace the charger and hopefully all will be well. However,if it comes from the laptop-then the damage may be irreparable. .

You might find that your computer is able to support an installation of 4 GB memory. However, this maximum memory might be limited by the operating system not being able to address the full range of physical memory However, winXP is fine with 2GB RAM

Perhaps the Flash Drives are not windows XP compatible (very unlikely). Maybe you have received a faulty batch. Have you checked your USB connection with a known good stick ?
