FLCL...Fooly Cooly...Furi Kuri--anyone else watched that?
Yes. It's quite insane. Which is why I have all three volumes...... As you can see, I like anime. I've wasted vast quantities of money buying DVDs and other, pointless, collectibles. Currently, I'm into: Full Metal Alchemist Escaflowne Chrno Crusade Naruto (drags everything out …

FPS is "Frames per second". It determines the performance of games, with a higher rate producing smoother graphics. A low rate will appear laggy/chuggy/slow/choppy and can make a game unplayable as ingame actions take far too long to complete with far too few frames. I would mark 30 frames per …

Note: PC2700 RAM (and indeed, any RAM) is happy to run at lower speeds. Thus, if you used PC2700 RAM in the above board, it would run at the speed of the slowest stick (133Mhz).

It sounds like you have a hard drive controller that Windows has no drivers for. These days, it's usually a SATA controller, but it might also be a RAID setup or an obscure product. You will need the drivers for it on a floppy disk. Also, make sure you press …

Here's something I prepared earlier.... (you need to have admin rights)
Turn off simple file sharing under Tools->Folder Options->View (although I think this is WinXP Pro only). Quite a few motherboards enjoy switching boot drive preference to PATA when you plug one in, which is what's happening here (it's a royal pain, and has happened to me a number of times). You need to head into the BIOS and change the priority to the 80Gb SATA drive.

Prescott processors have different power requirements, and as such a number of older boards (that worked AOK with standard Northwood 800FSB models) did not have the right hardware to run them. I'm not sure if this is the case with the cut-down Prescott you have there, but considering that the …

I don't suppose there's any kind of warranty on this, considering you just bought it? (if there isn't, might I recommend an external mouse instead?)

You need to provide Windows setup with SATA controller drivers on a floppy disk (hit F6 when prompted during setup so you can install these drivers). Gigabyte's website will have the drivers you need, although you should have been supplied with either a program on the motherboard CD to make …

Consult your warranty guide - there should be information concerning Dell's warranty stance on bright pixels and whether or not you have a valid claim for a replacement.

You might want to consider an ATI 9100IGP chipset motherboard if you decide to go for a Pentium 4. The onboard video, while currently languishing near the bottom of the performance ladder, would probably be a significant improvement over your PCI video card. Just remember that this will sacrifice a …

If they are are standard PATA drives (IDE), then I would recommend that you do not put an optical drive and a hard drive on the same channel. They use different transfer protocols and so performance would be lower as a result. Make the hard drive master on channel #1 …

CL2 is the CAS latency of the RAM, part of the RAM's timings. In short, the lower the number, the faster the RAM. Therefore CL2 > CL3.

The motherboard has an integrated sound card, so you don't need to buy a separate card, but you may want to buy one in the near future if the onboard solution fails to deliver decent audio to your ears. ;)

For that kind of money, I'd consider a 7800GT. There appear to be at least 2 within your price range ($299 that I could find - phoawr, $1 under). A very good chipset that will perform faster than a X850XT in most situations.

The reason Windows failed to boot previously is because of your drastic hardware change and not removing the old drivers beforehand. Regardless, it is highly recommended you reinstall Windows when swapping motherboards and/or video cards. For retrieval of your old files, try this.
