You don't need any extra hard ware other than a router or hub. If you have an internet connection, buy a router, if you just want to share files, buy a hub/switch. You'll need 2 network cables and you'll need to put both computers in the same workgroup for filesharing.

you'll need a terminal server and dumb terminals for the viewing of pictures. in windows you'd need licenses, they'r not worth it, but you could setup a linux terminal server and have either dumb terminals, or really old computers to remote into the server, if it's just for viewing it …

Yes you can. I actually figured out how to do it. Once you get the drivers for your card, right click on the destkop and click personalize (I hate how they changed everything). Then you want to go to themes and choose aero from there. It's as easy as that.

i would NEVER buy linux. I'd rather download an image in 10 years than buy it.

you can install debian on one pc with all the packages and programs you want. then you can create an image of the hard drive and using a ghost server you can copy that image on all the computers you want.

I know in vista if you don't have file sharing, you won't be able to see other comptuers, so you do have it on vista, most likeley. Try pinging the computers, and tell us what happened.

yes, it could be that, but why in the heck did you freaking take out the battery while it was running? you DON"T DO THAT! if it was under warranty, i'd send it back. I would just get a new motherboard on ebay or something.

question, why are you selling your servers? i mean quad pentium 3's with 2 gig of ram? that would make a pretty decent server. if i lived in the UK i'd buy all three of them wihtout even thinking about, but i live in US.

When you say external users, do you mean people outside your network? Because I don't think it's possible to print accross the internet. File sharing you can setup and ftp server.

So I've always wondered about dual core processors. If you get an intel core 2 duo cpu, 2.5Ghz, does that mean you get twice the clock speed, so you're getting 5Ghz clock speed?

it's not an issue with the pc, rather the router, reset the router and your modem to see what happens.

I'm getting a bunch of free licenses for vista business through school. I'll probably buy ultimate for my next new computer. It's only $200 for ultimate at newegg.com.
