Re: you should definetley try linux. it depends on your hardware, but for new hard ware i'd use SLED 10, openSuse, ubuntu, kubuntu, mepis, dreamlinux, slackware, etc. for older machines, try debain(one of the best), DSL, antix, slax, etc. there are many distros to choose from, and you'll find that all … ![]()

Re: you can't install halo 2 unless you have directx 10, and you can't install that unless you have an nvidia geforce 8 series video card.

Re: when buying a dell, buy as little ram as you can, because it is so expensive, you can always buy it a newegg.com, since it's very cheap there.
Re: what ipod do you own? this happened to my ipod and i couldn't fix it so i took it apart.
Re: > If you don't have wireless, then most modern printers these days have a networking port, so you can use the standard Ethernet cables to run to and from a router. he just said his printer doesn't have a nic. i'd look at some wireless print servers, or you might …
Re: probably what you'll have to do is boot to the windows cd and run the following commands. fixboot fixmbr so that you can boot to windows, then on the c drive you'll want to edit the boot.ini file and add ubuntu as a boot option.

Re: Sounds like it's your internet connection. if you reset your router correctly, it should have reseted any settings that might have been changed.
Re: wait, you break the law when you keep using winrar? that's just stupid. oh well, guess i'm going to have to use 7zip from now on.
Re: Gentoo is hard to configure. for hard core linux users gentoo is better, but for newbies, ubuntu is a good starting place.

since ati has the linux drivers for my video card(ati radeon 9200), does that mean it can run all the eye candy and stuff? thanks for your help.
Re: the x server isn't starting probably because it can't find the drivers for it.
Re: Acutally, if it says free upgrade to vista premuim, you'll most likely get aero. I agree with jbennet. Don't upgrade for a few months, and before you should upgrade to 2G of RAM. Just wait for them to get the biggest bugs fixed, then upgrade.

Re: just use ubuntu and install the codecs yourself, it's not that hard.
Re: DX10 only works on the 8800 gpu's. that just makes me angry becuase halo 2 for pc will require dx10, and unless you have that card, you won't be able to play it.
Re:
Heh I'm not so sure that PC dominates in all of the above. How about the 'superior picture/video editing' (or something like that)?
Macs are limited though, if you want a better graphics card on a pc you can upgrade, on a mac you have to buy a new mac. …

Re: there's only one explanation, debian is starting to suck
Re: I would definetley buy a wired router, meaning no wireless(not a switch), and then just plug in airport. it doesn't have to be fancy, and i'd look at netgear and lynksis routers. |
