Re: For us Linux is less annoying than windows, but the average user doesn't want to have to go to shell to install programs. With that said, there's plenty of potential to make it work in the mainstream with some minor touches. Just look at OSX, built on a Unix core …
There's no denying that the Iphone was progressive. I watched Steves key-note half a dozen times, and I didn't even like apples back then, but would an Iphone II stand out the same way? Right now I'm shopping for a new cellphone, I've looked at dozens of neat new phones; …
Re: Why does it matter which is better? The G1 is a T-Mobile exclusive, Iphon on AT&T, Storm on Verizon. Very few people would change carriers over a phone preference and even fewer people who don't have a cell-phone already are going to spend this kind of money on their first …
Re: Personally, if a transaction goes bad on ebay I contact the seller BEFORE I leave feedback. If it's something was an honest mistake, and is remedied, I leave neutral feedback and an explanation of what happened. As an occasional seller, if I made a mistake or didn't give enough detail …
Re: Over all I'd agree with you about companies and public figures getting involved in political issues, but I think think this is a little different. They're A. trying to get a little good publicity out of a generous donation (which I see nothing wrong with). B. Making a stand on …
People have been fantasizing about Apple releasing a netbook for a while now, and I can understand why. People who love Apple hardware REALLY love Apple hardware, and even though I'm more of a PC guy myself I can see the Appeal. Whether you love them or hate them there's …
Re: Unfortunately they do still make treos :p but they've gotten progressively worse and buggier over the years. I'd say the risk is getting greater and greater. There has been a potential to infect mobile devices with viruses for years but lately the lines between phone, PDA, and PC are blurring. …
Re: Thin Clients are certainly more secure out of the box but their is a secondary concern: Flash drives. Vance was right that people want to have confidential files stored locally. It's not so much a matter of the security risk, but the perceived risk by people who aren't familiar with …
Re: The company I work for uses Fedex, and they have a clause in the terms of service that a Plane crash is an "act of god" and they're not liable to pay out insurance. I see something like that coming up here but still think that between Microsofts overwhelming legal …
Re: I don't think we're giving mac enough credit on their foresight here. The economy took a big hit just recently but there have been signs for a long time that people are going to be more cost-conscious in the coming months (hopefully not years). That said, I have no doubt …
Re: To me, what stood out about the new commercials wasn't just that "everybody is a PC" (I knew that aleady, I've seen the market statistics) it was having musicians, artists, and authors: The market segment that people view as being anti-windows. They're not just pointing out that everybody "Is a …
Re: When it comes down to it, he is half right. Companies are trying to make devices more universal (see googles android project and all the other mobile linux projects in development), history has showed us that people get sick of proprietary hardware. With that said, Apple already knows this. Apple …
Re: My take on it is that the criticism of cloud computing is in three main points; Security: Aside from the risk of the servers that store your information being compromised, every time you send information from one computer to another (especially using questionably secure connections) there's a risk it will …
Re: I never thought it was a hoax. Anybody could build that computer for that when you consider the $400 price is no OS, or Monitror which are usually the most expensive factors in a new system. "pre-installing for free" isn't really a big deal, there's virtually no expense to it …
Re: I'm not sure if you can do it directly, but you can download with Iphoto and then just move them from Iphotos default folders to the ones you want.
Re: 1. I'm not 100% on the GPA but it seems that you could probably leave it out as long as you have it available to provide. I don't think there's any particular reason though as it's only an extra six characters on a resume. 2. Not appropriate for most college …
I'm considering new strategies to recruit clients for my Network services and IT consulting business. I've made a list of target businesses in my, relatively small, market and I had planned to send post cards out. But after receiving a cold cal from a local marketing firm the other day …
Re: Do you mean OEM disk? And what exactly is it you need this disk for, we'd be happy to help you find a solution here but we need more information about your goals.
Re: Just disable the connection when you're not using it by going to "network connections" right click on the relevant connection, and select "disable". Then select "enable" when you want to use it again. If you don't want it to be enabled on start-up you'll have to be sure to disable …
Re: An associates degree doesn't count for much with employers in most markets but it you use it as the first two years of a bachelors degree there's no problem. The accreditation of the university you graduate from is what will matter. As for UoP... I don't know if they have …
Re: You didn't mention any good experience or education in programming, if you have that background it's something to consider but I'm under the impression that programming is the focus where employers care the most about your education. I'd say look for jobs in both the networking and database field while …
Re: Find the folder where your quickbooks data files are stored and copy them to the computer you're using to browse. Restoring them to quickbooks is really pretty simple, just put them back on the computer after you've gotten it set up and open them from quickbooks.

Re: Double check the jumper configuration, I've done this with dozens of SATA-II drives and it's always worked. You might also want to check the cables and ports incase that's the problem because a properly jumpered SATA-II drive shouldn't have any compatibility issues.
Re: It's not a problem with Boot.ini When restoring from a start-up it gets a BSOD, which means it's past the boot.ini phase and when booting the system from scratch you have to manually select the boot order. This is a bios matter and not related to the boot.ini file. As …
Re: You really need to be more clear on this question, I'm assuming you mean to upgrade from XP to vista but the way you worded it could just as easily mean installing Vista in a virtual environment under XP. If you want to upgrade then rik is right, insert the …
Re: I like Avast for anti-virus and Zonealarm for Firewall, but lately I've been using Comodos security suite. It's free and from everything I've read (and seen) Comodos firewall is on par or better than zone alarm and the anti-virus seems to do pretty well too.
I'm putting together a VERY simple time tracking widget to embed into my companies homepage. It's going to be broken down by individual offices and I'm formatting it as a drop-down box with no more than ten employees in it and two buttons (clock-in and clock-out) the problem is that …
Re: The problem is that Windows XP does not have a real boot-loader. It will not recognize Linux the same way linuxes boot loader will recognize windows. You need to reinstall the boot loader that comes with ubuntu (I think it's GRUB). This tutorial I found on a useful blog SHOULD …
Re: Any format has the opportunity to save at loss less quality if you set the bitrate high enough, it's a matter of the particular settings. I'd suggest looking into divx, check out imtoo dvd ripper platinum and play with the settings to find a quality you're comfortable with in a …
Re: The software installer itself is written to look on different CDs for different files, if it doesn't give you a "browse" option then you'd actually have to edit the code on the installer which is probably not possible. I'd suggest making the disks into ISO images: you can do this …
Re: The one thing that pops into my mind, since you've already done all the troubleshooting steps I'd usually suggest) is that they're just low quality drives with bad regions. Small files don't span very far and therefor only get a couple of the bad sections but large files become corrupted. …
Re: Get some basic certifications, maybe take some community college level classes and you'll have a good foundation, but experience counts more than anything. dimayasny is right, You need a CS degree (probably a BS) to get a high end job, but you can get a decent IT job with an …
This morning I finished setting up my multi-boot system (XP/Kubuntu/Win7) and had an interesting idea... What if I mount my boot partitions as virtual machines so I can access them while loaded in another operating system? The obvious purpose of multi-boot is to be able to load the OS naively …
Re: Longhorn is called vista now, not vise versa. Longhorn was a working project name or codename in the early development stages (the first closed Beta I played with still said longhorn, I think). If you have a new system using a directX 10 video card vista can take advantages of …
Re: At the risk of sounding like a jerk, you are doctor windows. If you can't make it work, go back to windows. Most of us have tried to install an operating system on a system that wasn't properly supported. I had to completely give up on Windows XP x64 the …
Re: Are you asking how to check that it's mounted from the system that's accessing it? This is pretty simple and just a matter of trying to access the drive. If you're looking for a simple command line to do it I suppose just running CD X (X being the letter …
Re: You said you think it's windows update, but do you have any evidence windows did an update? You should be careful with automatic updates on a server, only security updates if anything, and doing all updates manually isn't a bad idea if you're able to pay close enough attention. Are …
Re: I would guess this is a problem with the the chanel set-up of the ram. Take a look at your motherboards manual for their suggested memory configuration for two chips. It might be a problem with having both on the same chanel or something of the like... Also, take a …
Re: According to the other forums that I've read, this is something that google will show at their discression. I don't know what criteria your site has to meet before they implement it, it might be a certain ranking or number of hits, but I would imagine that submitting a site-map …
Re: Ironically, this post was copied as well. The user who submitted this seems to have stolen most, if not all, of her posts from Daniweb. Even community introductions. I sent a complaint to the site operators but since this user, and possibly the site, has stolen dozens or hundreds of …
Re: If it's new and demanding a format after just a few uses it's probably defective. Return it while you can.
Re: I think there's something wrong with the CD drive itself, not the PSU: 1. The early problems were ONLY when using the CD drive. 2. When you did the new install things got a lot worse, system files started being corrupted or missing, this makes me suspect the drive was …
![]() | Re: I doubt you'll find the battery life, I couldn't even find a model number so I dont think you'll find info about it anywhere else. Newegg has a similar product for about $30 more, Looking at the photos it might be the same device but it's hard to tell without … ![]() |
Re: Are you plugged directly into a modem? If you're not going through a router most modems need to be reset before you can hook a new device up to it (perhaps you accidentally reset the modem when working with the power strip). Have you been using this set-up and switching …
Re: It depends a lot on what you mean when you say "make movies". If you're talking windows movie maker and clips of your kids birthday parties you'll be fine with about anything, but more serious video editing can be very gpu intensive. What kind of pricerange are you looking at? …
Re: IE 8 is brand new, some sites are bound to have problems with compatibility. If it's causing problems on sites that are critical to you I hope you can downgrade to version 7 and sit it out, but if you can live with it wait until the sites are updated …
Re: MSN isn't dependent on an IP address because the Microsoft has a server directing traffic. There are other scenarios and protocols where this isn't the case. If you connect directly to the other system it wont be the same, for example: A friend publishes a folder on their laptop for …
