processes I can see staight of the bat: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ms18_word.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [do_not_delete] C:\WINDOWS\system32\do_not_delete.exe (ironic I know) Those two alone (especially on XP) can do untold damage to the OS, as well as dropping in other extras. Sounds like the boot-log corrupted. I don't see why you don't have recovery-disk for your notebook... Toshiba ALWAYS provide a recovery disk, unless something drastic has very recently changed. Sure you didn't throw it out with the original box??

Have you tried running the installer as Admin? Also, in Win7, you can right-click on the installer and select troubleshoot, as may have a Windows Build detection facility built in which is getting in the way - the troubleshoot utility can shut that off if need be.

Yup, can agree here. Mapping a network drive is on a user-by-user basis. Imagine the security nightmare presented by one user mapping a drive to an account they have legitimate access to, and other users on that machine also piggy-backing of that access privilege.
