sounds like the hardrive with windows on it has gone bad ,remove it and connect it with usb device to a working computer to check further

seems like a tricky way to get us to go to 100bestbys ,worked for me ,you computer must be broke and needs to be replaced ,lol give this a try ,open internet explorer ,go tools internet options /advanced and click reset internet explorer settings ,hit reset ,good luck

only thing i have to add is that older power supplies can boot fans and stuff but because of problems within they don't have enough power to boot the computer fully ,seen many of them do that over the years

before you took the drive out of the external case you should have hooked it to a working computer and in windows disk manager you should have formatted the drive and set it active ,try that and see if it make a difference

while in network sharing center did you click to create a new connection or network and choose internet connection ,and tell it auto find the ip,I think something like that anyway I know you likely already done that , try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the dongle

Assuming you computer has a seperate administrator acct ,did you try hitting f8 on bootup and going into safe mode ,try using the admin acct and go to users in the control panel and removing the password to your acct
