right click on my computer, choose manage, go to services and application expand, and hight light services look in the list for windows installer, double click and set to automatic. restart the pc then try to install.

Step 1: restart the pc then install the patch Step 2: if you still get the error bring up task manager and kill the service that SP4 is reporting thats running. the upgrade Cd will not do a full install of windows 2000. you will need a full version.

you have to turn off simple file sharing, open my computer, click on tools folder option then the view tab, the in the advance section scroll down and lok for simple file sharing recommended, remove the check mark click ok.

where are the users files stored, are they stored on the users PC or on the server. if they are stored on the local pc back up to either a flash,cd or on the network then replace the pc then you can restore the files from the back up area
