client can't get SP2 as there is no internet connection to download, (Kinda Surprise the cd does not have SP2) any way it should work without Sp2, on win XP Pro. the OEM utility is controlling the wireless and you are using windows wireless zero to connect. this will not work, you have to decide which one of the utility you want to control the wireless. then config with the encryption and password.
NB if you are using the OEM utility, you should disable wireless zero and vise versa.
how many computers are connecting to the router., are you using the computer wireless utility or windows wireless zero, ensure the card is not disable by the wireless utility.
can you start the pc in safe mode, when you say blank do you see the desktop wall paer or the screen is black.?????????/
this not the place to reveal how to crack/hack a logon to any operating system, i suggest you do a little more research to solve this issue on your own.
ok what type of error message are you getting?
sound like you have encryption on the router. if you reset the router all setting should be lost and it should show up as linksys, you can then connect without entering any code. ALSO you have to decide which utility you want to use to manage the wireless. either the del or windows wireless zero.
go to this web site and it will tell you what type of ram you have and the cost to upgrade Click Here
can you use this computer to connect directly to the modem to get online? is this DSL or cable internet?
when you try to connect what error are you getting. what type of router, any encryption
you have to get the drivers installed for the card. do you have any cd that came with the pc, they might contain the drivers. if ou look in system properties you will see a list of devices with question sign over them. you are going to need drivers for those. i suggext you use the umbutu external drive, down load the driver for the card then go from there.
how far is the wireless pc from the router. this sound like you are experiencing inter-ference either from another wireless device, distance between the 2 oints or you cordless phone.
Here is a suggestion, unplug your modem, reset the router(push the reset pin) then unplud the router, wait a few minutes then connect the modem, wait a few minutes then connect the router.
i believe you might have a dead battery, or your HDD is definitely shot,
Did you install drivers for the card if tha card came with a cd install the dirvers from the cd, if not go the manufacturer web site and download the drive to a flash drive and install on the pc with the card
go to system properties and chack if the card has a red X or yellow circle with exclamation sign or a question sign. any of this indicate that the system is not recognizing the card correctly.
maybe the cd will cost you about 30 bucks plus shipping or free with shipping. but so you know the cd will not restore any thing but your operating system ( windows) and maybe some oem programs
the old IDE CD drive you had was it attached with a HDD set up as master and slave.
i am going to assume that the computer is not starting, Correct??????
if it is create a new restore point, if not get the cd from the pc manufacturer, usually cheaper than taking the pc to the shop
End of the work week, very nice.
you have a Trojan taking over your pc, create a new admin account and give that a try
yow bro, where in the world did you get the idea to solder a pin on a cpu, i suggest you start looking for a new CPU for the Lappy LOL
does any thing comes up on the screen when you boot the laptop. is the battery fully charged. are you using a wall outlet for power or the battery.
@ mechbas, you would be surprise at to how some simple stuff can slip you by when it comes to computer. However, i suggest you format that hard drive with some other utility then do the. But the best thing do do right now is run a disk utility on the HDD. to verify if the boot sectors are ok.
Jonifen has a good point, best way to keep down cost and your department is one of the MOST expensive in the company. so saving cost will be in line with management. but here at my company we use Alloy navigate, very easy to use, comes with asset tracking, help desk ticket, work order, there is also remedy. how large is your company. thats one factor you have to consider to make these purchases.
when you log on in safe mode do you use the admin account. as for the Av to by, dont waste your cash, get the free stuff. AVG, has antivirus and spyware Asquared will give you a free Av, then you can back them up with adaware and spybot, However if YOU MUST buy, my recommendation is Mcafee
did you have all the computers joined the work group, if you don't run the configuration to have each one join the work group you will have more that one Work group showing up, because this is the default for windows i suggest you give the work group a unique name, like (your name or initial work group)
if you believe that it is a loose connection why not open the laptop and try to remove and reinsert the hard drive. Check the connection to ensure nothing is actually broken.
I am aware the post is very old but I do beleive that it has to do with Mcafee Enterprise edition, can't speak for the home edition, but the enterprise edition lock down many critical access area in windows, to get around this right click on the mcafee shield icon, click on viruscan console. when the window open click tools and chooses to unlock user interface. you might be ask for a password, enter and click ok, then highlight access protection then buffer over flow then click the stop button.(one at a time) make the changes you want in msconfig you will not get the access denied. I can testify to this as i have done this and it works fine
NOte even if you try using safe mode you will still get the access denied error. mcshield is a service thats always loaded with windows. so althought you don't see the icon in safe mode the service is still running.
I am having a little issue with one of Microsoft Office 2007 Application. Visio 2007, no matter what i do i cannot install this application. I tried the trial version, the full version everything, i keep getting an error " Microsoft Office Visio professional 2007 encountered an error during setup". I tried removing all traces of visio from the registry, remove office 2007, try to install visio by it's self, nothing work, reinstall all office 2007+patch, project 2007 + patch, web Expression+ patch, nothing seem to work. I have the full version on cd, I rip it to the HDD to give that a try, nothing. I don't want to have to format and reinstall all software on my pc just for this program, (which i really need to use). Any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated.
what kind of hardware do you have connected to the mobo., the reason i am asking this I am experiencing the same problem. since i installe and liteon light scribe on the sata port, my PC takes longer to start. bios screen takes long to detect HDD, and attach devices. then a cursor blinks for a minute then windows logo take like 2.5 min to finish, after that its a breeze. logging on is no problem windows come up immediately. so check your connections, I am still trying to work out mine, if i get the answer i will post under this thread.
if any one else has a solution let us know ok
Here is what you do, get the keys from the present installation you have runnig not, Use this program
it will find the key for you present Windows XP, these keys would have already been registered with windows, so you can use the one cd to install on many PC with diifferent cd key.
Because according to Microsoft, one cd comes with 1 key, and you would nt be able to use the same key on different machine, in reality you can but you would nto be able to activate and get updates. therefore the procedure above will able you to get the key for each machine you have windows on now. save the keys and use with the retail full copy you buy.
if you have any firewall turn them off and try loading the page again, as for the download you should get a yellow bar at the top of the browser below the toolbars and icons. click on it and choose download file. if that does not work use a download manager to get firefox and or opera. then try the web pages, if they open in firefox or opera i suggest you do a reinstall on IE7
compare the wattage on them if the one in the dinosaur is way lower might not do any good, but it's worth a shot at this point.
here is s funny short story, i work at a cable company help desk, guy calls in, cannot send email, swear up and down that he quadruple chekc every thing, turned out he typed SMTP >STMP and also curse me saying that that how it used to work before, funny story after he listen to me and rearrange the letters. i was not beside him but i know he was red in the face.
Point to this is check the server setting again and verify the correct port.
confirm for us does the HDD lights comes on , do you hear the fans in the pc, . IF yes, at the back of the tower, there is a switch on the power supply, turn it off, unplug the power cord, let it sit for a while, now for the monitor, can you bring up the menu and reset to factory defaults, then unplug the power cord. with the power unplugged check the temp on the pc components, the HDD and CPU if they are too hot to touch, let us know.
double check the typing on the incoming and out going server. one missing dot or misspell will give you errors, also check the email address on gmail itself ensure no forwarding is configured.
if you are going tp purchase Xp PRO get the full version, you can do upgrades or full install with it, more over the cd is bootable and upgrade cd can only be run from within an operating system.
ITS ONE OF 2 THINGS
1 your out going server might be typed incorrectly double check the setting
2 if thats correct you are blacklisted by your isp probably from sending too many emails in a given time period that will look at it as spam and block you.
as caperjack stated what program did you use to remove the autostart programs. not what you removed, and the best option is to use the LASTKNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION from the F8 menu, once you see the bios screen loaded start hitting F8 until you see a windows startup menu.
PS KEEP THE PC OFF FOR A BIT REMOVE THE POWER AND LET IT STAY FOR ABOUT 30 MIN THEN TRY TO REBOOT.
outlook saved all contact, email and email address in one file with the extentions .PST all you have to do is find that file on the old HDD save it to the new up and running HDD, then open out look and import the pst file, you will get back all the emails and contact that you had prior to the system crashing.
maybe this person is looking at the page with zoom on, or the default fonts or option for excel is set differently. check the default font on your pc, then check the zoom (what zoom % you are veiwing in0 then match this person pc to the same settings. also the desktop size and font can also affect how programs are displayed on the screen
do you have any norton antivirus installed. or mcafee. some times these programs block attachements..if not you will have to get the latest patch for outlook then edit the registry.
try using the secondary IDE controller, then in your bios disable the primary and use the secondary as the boot, set you HDD to the same as if it was on the primary controller
if the pc is booting and you are not getting a BSOD, but instead freezes, this is pointing to the HDD, use a disk utility ( that will not destroy you data) to run a check also do you have an external HDD or IPOD connected to the PC?
if you can get online while the pc is up do a windows updat, then restart, if that fails I suggest you do a reinstall of XP, do you have the win XP cd, explorer is currupted and olny a reinstall can fix it, restart the laptop, go into the bios and set the boot order to cd then HDD, pop the cd in and do a reinstall
i did ask you if u have any other antispyware/antivirus on the pc?
if you do they will some times prevent you from editing certain services
you can delete the folder som trojan program tries to install on your pc, with the intention to crash it, that why windows gives you that message. delete and scan for spyware/virus
one do you have any other antivirus or antispyware running on the computer?
go to control panel, admin toll services and look for the windows installer, make sure it's not disabled or stopped, if it's stop start and then try the installation. and set the service to automatic.
check the jumper setting on the HDD, also try another IDE cable. alsoif you have the option when your bios load, to choose boot device, use that ad select the HDD
