It will really depend on how much data your windows has re-written to that particular drive. Use some recovery software to see if you can recover anything. Use this comparison of data recovery software if you're confused which one to use.

When you startup the system, press F8 to open advance startup options, select disable automatically restart option .. Then it'll not restart automatically on error. If blue screen of death comes, tell us the error code.

Most of the old applications won't run after your new installation of windows .. because most of the programs keep their information in windows registry which is gone with the previous installation. You'll have to install most of the programs again !! Good luck.

Probably the hardware you installed recently is not working properly. Remove it and then see if your puter boots and the monitor displays comes on.

When starting up press F8 for advanced options and select disable automatically restart option. If there is blue screen of death after restart, tell us the error code. Alternatively go to windows recovery console and run the following command: chkdsk /f /r c: [where c: is your windows drive]

Most of the linux admins love the command console for their remote work. You can use Putty to login remotely to your server. But if you want to have the graphical user interface at your disposal, use vnc server.

Have you purchased your windows or made it genuine through some cracking software? Anyways it seems like the problem is with your video card driver .. see if it's working. If not, then reinstall it.

I think plugging the drive with win 98 on secondary slot will have no problems. But I dont think it'll be dual boot. It'll boot from win xp.

What are the error codes you get usually ?? Error codes are of the format 0x000000aa where aa is any number. Blue screen errors are usually generated by hardware conflicts or malfunctioning ... So get the error n you'll know what hardware is creating problems for you.

I am using windows 2000 pro for a long time. I have also used win 95,98, Me and XP. I dont know why people prefer win XP. I think win XP has some graphical effects and nothing else. Should I be using win XP or continue using win 2000 :?:
