Not really enough info for us to diagnose. What does your IE Options default web page say? Should one of us try and access this web page and report to you?

Maybe this applies to your case: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886348 If the error happens it mid-game, it is entirely logical that your graphics driver is addressing main RAM incorrectly. The BSOD indicators point to the Nvidia drivers, don't they? And you did update your gfx driver. Can you revert to the old driver? …

I suspect that the cleanup removed a system file that had been infected. So perhaps it is worth taking your XP Pro CD, booting off the CD with the /R option and repair your Windows.

There comes a time, like with me, when the processor itself is the cause of slow running. The best you can do to tune what you've got is: 1/ At least 1GB RAM (you've got this) 2/ Remove desktop documents & programs leaving only links to them 3/ Cleaning out …

I can definitely bridge with the two Drayteks I've got. But the Netgear WGT624 manual avoids all reference to the technique other than providing a generic description of what APs and Briding mean. Your WGT624 is an AP in Infrastructure Mode and thus what you might accomplish possibly lies in …

If the numlock stays on, it usually means that the PC has gone into Standby mode and there's a power setting in control panel to regulate this. I don't know why it goes into standby but that's what I reckon it's doing.

I reckon you've correctly fingered the problem and getting rid of it could be simple or frustrating. Basically the system wants to load something you reckon you uninstalled. It means there's an active registry key that needs removing. It is orphaned and so the variuous reg cleaner utilities (I use …

You've been infected. But don't do anything that anything on your screen tells you unless it's a trusted anti-virus or anti-spyware program. What anti-virus and anti-spyware software are you using? I can tell you now that disinfecting if it's gone too far can be a lot of effort. You need …

Virus or trojan, I suspect. See the Spyware forum, get the diagnostic tool suggested there and post a report in that forum. Does that make sense?

jmm123 is spot on. There are dead spots in every house. The acid test is to take the laptop to the router's room and work the problem out from there.

If you're really stuffed and the HJT stuff that the great and good on this forum won't run, then you could do worse than try my famous steam radio job posted at http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread88342.html Or you could try my suggestions anyway until the great and the good get you into the …

First port of call, I'd say, is to repair Windows from the Management Console. You'll need an install disk if the stuff isn't on your HDD. The cause is usually only one of three: 1) A glitch that knocked the registry out of kielter (or a glitch that had other …

I had something (important for me) that wouldn't run under XP; so I tried caperjack's suggestion and it worked a treat. I thought I knew stuff! Otherwise you can delete the stuff manually and check the registry for anything that did get registered and remove those entries.

You could be doing this for the rest of your life - and getting deeper and deeper into doodoo. I can't guarantee this'll work, but a first principles approach may well get rid of the lurker that's causing regeneration of the Trojan. I'd use a second PC to host the drive. I'd re-partition it (FDISK). Format it and transfer it back to the intended system. I would then boot from the XP Home CD and proceed from there. Not mine to question why anyone would want to regress from XP Pro ....

Your local company is correct. The drivers etc on the old HDD are of little use on a new MOBO. When they've rebuilt your system, ensure that the old HDD is placed in your new system as a slave device. You'll need to make sure that there is the right …

You'll no doubt be encouraged if more than one response gives the same advice. The AVG anti-spyware clears this up (if trojan it be) but it'd be as well to run SpyBot as well to double check. Not all trojans disappear on first pass in which case no doubt you'll …

You can always get your data off by attaching the HDD onto another PC. Then you can re-build your Windows. That's provided it's only data you're worried about. Applications - well I hope you have the install stuff.

I suggest that you replace the PSU - a very simple task. Remember to get the same wattage or higher (I'd suggest a little higher). At worst you can put your HDD into a USB enclosure and use the data in a new PC if the abobve doesn't work.

You will definitely need to rebuild Windows (if you haven't already done so). The jumpers for memory configuration mentioned by PoemBoy are also worth lookig at - in fact check all jumpers against your mobo handbook. Also, I'm sure you've tried booting without your extra devices attached? yes? And the …

I've never known Defrag to scramble any files. But your first step should be to reinstall your graphics drivers, I'd say. if you've already tried this, perhaps you could describe in greater detail what "purple pixel" meands. One pixel only?

It doesn't always wpork like a charm - but there's a methodology that begins with the HJT log and either you decoding it and acting accordingly, or you post in the Spyware section and let the experts guide you through. Stuttering stuff is nearly always due to CPU activity, often antivirus. You'd need to report from Task Manager what the CPU loading is pon the various listed processes whilst all this stuttering is happening.
