AVG AntiVirus Free edition (Not the antispyware, that costs money) . Uses much less memory than norton and in my expeience is just as good. Has caught many viruses for me. Free for non-commercial use. Right now the best commercial antiviruses are Mcafee (but its slow like norton) and Nod32

i like Paint.NET (freeware, may be open source but dont know) Not quite as flexible as the Gimp but easy to use - works well as a general purpouse editor when you cant be bothered waiting for photoshop to load

windows update has also largely been replaced by microsoft update, which does office etc.... as well you can switch to MS update + update manually here: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

Yeah, dont run 2 antiviruses at once. Bad idea. Looks clean to me. By the way, a few bacic HJT tips: 1)Never EVER select everything listed and delete it. Many newbies do this and break thier system 2)Rename hijackthis to something else before running. Some malwares try to block it. …

No, RAM is backward compatible. It will just run at the lowest speed e.g if you use PC133 and you put in some PC1024 it will work, just at the slower speed.

Are you logged in as an administrator? Make a new account with administrator priviliges and see if you are able to it from that account. Sometimes if the registry gets corrupted, it can make you lose your admin rights for certain tasks e.g removing software
