why not just buy a proper router, plug both pcs in with their own macs, and make the router simulate the mac on the outgoing connection to the ISP?

to put is simply - you are using a smarthost. your provider should be able to support you on setting it up. as for the sending problem, if the config is good, you might be blocked by antispam systems, if you have no mx records. your ISP should be able …

I'd get proper switches to move on to 100BaseT at least. and while I'm at it, buy a few switches with fiber modules. you connect the fiber cables to that, and stack up the switches for pc and server connectivity

no need for exchange to use simple mail services on 2003 server. it has it's own built in pop3 and smtp server. pst can be also redirected to a share on the server. not the best setup, but it works, more or less. exchange would be the case if outlook …

good idea. anyhow, the server is still online, right? so you can run a proper backup, and rebuild the entire raid from scratch, if you can't force the new hdd online. the general action plan would be to put in the 9gb drive, make sure the system sees it, take …

master? slave? guys, this is SATA we're talking about. the dell guy said everything right - first thing go to bios and make sure the drive is detected, all your software wouldn't be able to see the hdd if bios doesn't map it before

you are actually using PSTN? gosh! every single modem on the system will be able to hold one client dialed in. in the old days there were special modem servers which contained an ATS for that, but I really don't know if such a thing can be found anywhere now. …

better to have someone who knows what he/she is doing. this involves extra hardware, and probable disassemby of the computer. much simpler would be to buy an external hard drive, copy whatever you need onto it, and copy it back after the reformat. that way you will have the external …

you are going to host 200 different websites? for that you'll need a dedicated server probably. actually 200 sites without too much computation on the serverside, like forums or simple portals and blogs, can be hosted on a pentium 3 pc with 512 memory. but if you want to be …

make sure there is connectivity between computers. if there are firewalls - either diable them or open port 3389. also, not sure if vista home premium will support rdp connection, it's a HOME edition after all

generally you connect two hubs with a cross cable. but the new switches are capable of recognizing the cable and work with straight cables. pc to switch is always a straight cable. p.s. your router's four lan ports are a switch as well, of course.

cisco pix is the best thing to get, but if you want something simpler, have a look at sofaware and jungo (both can be googled). sofaware is checkpoint's hardware division, so what you get there is s-box, a router with checkpoint firewall built in. it can be even regularly updated
