Re: If you can't afford to pay, don't play! Simple concept, isn't it? No piracy promotion please ;)

Re: Resetting CMOS by removing the CMOS battery, waiting a while, then replacing it should do the trick if it's a BIOS password. Make sure you shut the system down and switch off at the wall outlet before fiddling about inside the case.

Re: The 'XP fix' is only available on a particular private website. All other sources link back to there. Currently, the site is down, and it may have been discontinued. I'd try again down the track again and see if it's back up. Perhaps the fellow simply didn't pay his bills!
Re: Are you running and using Spyware/Malware detection and removal tools on that system? AntiVirus is not enough. Check out the suggestions in the "Helping Yourself" topic in the security forum section for advice regarding suitable software tools.

Re: That'd depend on the display card you have. Different display cards have different controls. If you have an NVidia display card, for example, the control would be found by right-clicking a blank area of the desktop and..... Re: Buy a new hard drive. It sounds like the one you have is DEAD, not simply dying!

Re: Check: * That the power management functions are enabled in BIOS setup * That the correct motherboard chipset drivers are loaded for your system
A recent question requested advice about building your own PC. The website style is a little amateurish, perhaps, and some of the discussion of components is certainly getting a bit 'dated', but one of the most comprehensive system building guides I've yet come across is Rob Williams' My Super PC …
Re: Are you sure you are pressing the key at the correct time? It needs to be at the END of the POST routine, and BEFORE the Windows splash screen appears.

Re: Windows version? Internet provider? What other software did you install when the connection was configured? What sort of keyboard/mouse? Plug-in? USB? Wireless? Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the mouse and keyboard as suggested? Has the mouse and/or keyboard had software loaded to make extra buttons etc work? Have you …
Re: If that personal use includes PC gaming, then Windows XP is really the only sensible choice. There ar some older games which won't function with it, but most can be made to run one way or another. The stability of Windows XP exceeds that of any other version. If that …
Re: You've said the symptoms seem to point to the hard drive, but you've not shared those symptoms with us? The 'no signal present' error message could perhaps point to a problem with the display card or with the monitor cord, but not necessarily, as it is a standard error message …
Re: And that hardware problem, more often than not, usually means faulty RAM or mismatched RAM modules. Do you have two or more modules installed which are different brands? If so, ytry using them one at a time, in RAM slot 1, to see if the machine runs stable.
Re: You could create a batch file to use instead of the shut down button, and have the batch file run a video then perform a shutdown.
Re: Hi Diana, Sorry to disappoint you but no, there's not really such a thing as an 'Adequate' product available. Not if you want your sons 'protected' anyway. Any products available only give an illusion of protection, and the best of them are so restrictive that the internet becomes a virtually …
Re: Visit www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers from there. Put them on a CD. (Use another PC to do the job, of course) Boot into 'Safe mode'. Re: Yes, the answer is to activate the Windows installation. Any other answer than that would be illegal cirumvention of the anti-piracy copyright protection, and would not be permissible content on this forum. Is there a legitimate reason for wanting to extend the useful period without activating? I can't think of …
Re: Interesting saga mate. What brand was the power supply concerned? Was it one included with the case? Case and power supply unit quality is a factor often overlooked by people who assemble their own systems, and your experience sounds like a handy example to others, mate.
Re: Got to Start -> Programs and Right-click on 'Startup". Choose Open. If you see a media file of some sort in the folder, remove it.
Re: Sounds to me like the drive is on the way out or already cactus. The Windows CD should be able to 'see' the drive even if no partition is created on it.
Re: Given all that you've described, it HAS to be a bad RAM module or a RAM mis-match. Either that or the motherboard itself is cactus!
Re: Sounds like a software corruption issue to me. Have you tried using a different keyboard and/or mouse, to check that the problem is actually a hardware one?
Re: It's rather obscene, in my view, for a vendor to include a trial version of Office. It's costs the same amount to convert it to a fully functional version, and it can be a messy job to convert. You have two options: - Uninstall the trial version, buy a full …
Re: Put another hard drive in it, load Windows onto that, and then and copy the files across? Put the hard drive into a system with a CD-Burner and copy the files to CD? Edit: oops, beaten to the post! I'll run away now......... :o
Re: That sounds like the source of the problem to me as well. When you change the motherboard, you need to format and install Windows XP cleanly again.
Re: Also, when booting from the CD be sure to watch the BIOS POST screens after power up. You will likely get a message instructing you to press a key to boot from the CD. All legitimate Windows XP CDs should be bootable.

Re: I'd guess the processor as the most likely suspect as well - and the motherboard next! If, that is, there really isn't a connector dislodged somewhere. Re: Hi, I moved your question to it's own topic, as it shouldn't be placed in the discussion of a different problem. You need to first find out what display driver you need. Make and model of the PC please? (If it's a brand name PC) Make and model of the …
Re: What are you trying to do? There is no 'place' where the right-click menu 'hides', really. Right-click is a core function in the way Windows operates, and the contents of the right-click menu changes according to what is being clicked on. Describe what you are trying to do and we …
Re: Stop using the system. Take it to a data recovery service. It's an expensive thing to do, but is the surest way to get around the problem, and even then there's no guarantees. I'm sorry, but formatting wipes the drive clean. Luckily, it does not overwrite all the information on …
Re: What you are missing is the fact that you cannot move a drive with Windows XP installed on it to another system. It must be freshly installed with Windows XP so that it can be used. That's part of the copyright protection in place - Windows Product Activation. Secondly, if …
Re: I'd also suggest that you download and install all available Windows Updtaes, if you haven't done so already, and also download and install any available motherboard chipset drivers for your system or motherboard. Some of the Windows updates correct USB problems ;)
Re: Hi dcc, For any proper advice to be given, we need to know the make and model of the motherboard (or of the system if it's a big name one) We also need to know precisely what the problem is. I'm moving this to the hardware section for you.
Re: Considering the sparsity of messages I recieve from colleagues who are stuck with communication via LotusNotes, I have to wonder if that's even POSSIBLE!
Re: As fast as the processor is and as large the amount of RAM you have installed, it doesn't necessarily mean that everything is going to happen in an instant. Transfer of data between components is a bottleneck, the way Windows and software is configured can be another. It sounds to …
Re: There are numerous discussions of 'BRIDGE.DLL' error messages which relate to Spyware or Spyware removal in the "Security" section of the forum. You should read those first, as your answer may already be there. This question should really be put in that Forum anyway. I'll close this discussion off, and …
Re: Any decent partition management program will do the job. Only problem is, any decent partition management program is a commercial one. There's no decent 'freebie' that I've ever heard of!
Re: With all those display card changes, I'd say you almost certainly have driver corruption issues, especially as you've changed to and fro between NVidia and ATi cards. Bits 'n' pieces of drivers get left behind and make a mess. A Format and clean install is in order I believe, especially …
Re: Hi again PaddyRamsey. I think you must have BIOS configured incorrectly on that PC. Here's the list of processors your board should support: http://www.asrock.com/support/CPU_Support/CPUSupport_GEPro-HT.htm I'd suggest you reset CMOS on the motherboard before trying to boot up with the 2.4GHz processor again. That should set all BIOS settings back to …
Re: Clear out your internet cach by pressing the 'Delete Files' button you'll find after selecting Tools -> Options. The reset the settings on the Security tab to 'default', as GReddy4u suggested. If that doesn't work then reinstall Internet Explorer.
Re:
Windows 98 no service packs I just installed a new hard drive and modem. I need to change the color settings on monitor in order to install internet service. Problem is that it only gives me the option for 2 bit or 16 bit color and I need higher for …
