i suggest that you run a repair install then do the scanns. when explorer is corrupted the best thing to do is a clean install or repair. so if you have a bootable XP cd pop it in and repair windows. try to run vondufix and combofix. after you do the repair.

basicaill you would need to have a mother board that can run 2 processor ( mostly used for Servers.)

Over clocking is not a good idea, especially when you take heating as a factor. better to get a high end processor and adequate cooling. but if you MUSt Overclock stick to the manufacturer rating, better yet stay below by 20 percent. and invest in a good Power supply and cooling.

go to the control panel and then internet option the click the tad that says programs. set the default mail program there this is only valid if you have another email program installed like windows live mail, Thunderbird, Microsoft outlook or any third party email program.

I have this Dell that will not power on. When the power button is pressed it flashes orange. No sound or motion from any of the fans. The power light is on the mother board. So here is what i have done so far. Search dell web site, Fix suggest to call technical Support. Well the PC is out of warranty and they want $120 to start troubleshoot. Don't have the cash to waste and i doubt they would be able to fix the problem. Change the CMOS battery, still the same thing, remove the Memory, disconnected the Hard drive, the DVD drive. Change the CMOS switch to reset position ( don't know if that work as no display on the screen.) still the same orange flashing light.

Does any one have any other suggestion or fix for this.

reboot and press F8 as soon as the bios screen is off the screen. then boot windows into safe mode. if you get a administrator account leave the password blank then go into control panel and reset the password for you account.

seem like a corrupted hard drive. have you tried to use last known good configuration.

you can use a program called partition magic and move space from the D drive to the C drive. you would use the option to resize partition

right click my computer icon choose manage and see if you slave drive is there.

click start, run, type cmd and then hit enter. when the dos screen comes up type ipconfig /all look for the ip address for the ethernet controller. you will get a limited or no connectivity if the ip address begins with 169

Sorry Amit the registry doe not report any information from the bios. to find out if the bios password is set try pressing the corresponding key to go into the bios, if the password is set then you will be ask to enter the password.

you might be right, but i would investigate what partition windows is installed on. and is the partition active/bootable. if after investigating this and it does not fix the problem you might want to check the hard drive. run chkdsk /f then run fdisk to set the active partition.

look on the bpottom left or top right when the bios screen comes on and it will tell you what key to press to enter setup. when in the bios go to the security page/tad and remove the power on password option.

try reinstalling the update version for your sound card. and run a windows update.

Hi, I purchased a second hand computer and it was working before I picked up from my friends house. When I got it home and plugged it in, it would just make the sounds like it's booting, the lights blinked, it beeped, but my monitor kept saying that "the monitor is working properly - check the system". It sounds like it wants to come on but doesn't. It's not the monitor because I've used the monitor on another computer. I took it to someone to look at and he said he found a small lamp knob (you know, the ones you twist on the lamps). And he said I probably need a new motherboard or some other thing I can't remember. base on what you are saying, does anything come on the screen. The BIOS, the windows splash screen. if nothing is displayed check the video card and ake sure it is properly seated. and ensure that the video cable is properly attached.

on the monitor there are a few buttons that you should be able to press. try those and see if you get any desktop display.

is there an INI file on the dvd? can you extract the dvd to the hard drive and try installing.

try to start the pc in safe mode. press F8 as soon as you see the windows boot memu

if you crat the share on one pc and try to do the back up from another you have to give the second pc access permission to the drive and permission MUST include read/write.

that might be the problem the bios setting. what does the bios recognized the drive as. you may have to turn on large support in the bios. and as for the boot order you have to set that in the bios also the bios will read the IDE as the first boot. (had the same issue with my asus board with one ide channel) so move the sata to the to of the boot order.

check system properties and see if the nic is disables or have a yellow ? over it. update the drive and try again

why not try the trial version from the web site then install the full dvd version over it. and clean the disk as caper suggest

you may want to check if the IMAPI service is turned on. and set to automatic.
right click mycomputer icon, go to manage and select services look in the list for IMAPI

shut down, install memory do you hear the beep. Shut down remove memory, install next module reboot do you hear the beep.

Win-XP's "Computer Management" ==> "Disc Management"
shows me partitions that used to be OK as now being
"Healthy (Unknown Partition)".
.
I had used Copy Commander to copy the entire Disk Image
to an attached USB HardDrive.
.
The USB Drive - after a LONG copying proceedure,
contained all three partitions from my internal HardDrive -
all were/are shown as "Healthy (Unknown Partition)".
.
ALSO -
Two of the three partitions on the internal source drive now
show up as "Healthy (Uniknown Partition) - & are UnAccessable.
.
None of these "Healthy" partitions have Drive-Letters.

healthy unknown is that windows does not recognized the file system format. Fat, fat32 or ntfs. if you cannot access the drive through windows explorer yuo will not be able to get the files that are on it, Except if you use a 3rd party software to get the file

this sis telling you that the file on the recent open list, the location of the file has change, all you have to do is choose file >open browse to the folder with the file. then open the file of your choice

to turn off the private option right click on the folder and choose sharing and security, then uncheck the option to make the folder private.

try running fdisk on the partition or do a standard format from the command prompt. you would ahve to use the cd to boot to the command prompt.

did you install MCE 2005 yourself or did you get it on a PC your purchase. the feature might have to be installed from the cd.

you can simple do a search for the pst file set the search to lokok in hidden folders then copy the file to another folder you created, then back up the folder. it also seem like you got an infection going on. you want to run a spyware/malware scan

you seem to have a cross link registry entry. use a 3rd party program to scan your registry and see if that will retore the correct program to associate for each program

run this scan from the command prompt sfc /scannow it will tell you if any system file is missing or corrupted. you might need to have your XP cd

your pc is infected with some malware. you should run adaware, spybot Search and destroy. just so you know malware and trojan alwas target system restore point, so that if you restore you are still infected

only a 3rd party software will allow you to do that. or you can conver the codument to adobe PDF format and lock the document. a very neat freeware is filelock you can down load here

cd-r is the better choice. you want to make sure the cd is burned and finalized. it the car radio plays mp3's you can put a whole lot more music on the disk.

but you want to get the disk to scan so that errors can be detected and marked so the the operating system is not installed to a bad sector that you have another problem to deal with

Quick format just skips the disc surface scan.. it does everything else the full format does.

what device have you installed recently. boot into safe mode with network go tot he manufacturer website and download the latest drive. (extract if you have to ) then remove the device though system properties and reboot, when windows find the new device browse to the folder you have the new drivers saved

so did you also just install sp2,you say just the normal windows startup ,does that mean that you can boot into winxp and everything works ok.
could be a keyboard problem ,are you tapping the f8 key over and over as soon as the computer starts booting /

what type of error are you getting when you boot from the Hard drive

try the lcd display menu. try different settings and you might want to check out the size of the font that is being used. as stated earlier the crt will show certain fonts better that the lcd you just have to find the right setting

this is happening because
1 your hard drive might be bad
2 your system files are messed up
do as the previous post say do a repair install with the XP cd set your bios to boot from the cd first.

infection, are you running the latest update for the scanning program you are using.

instead of copying the files to the partition. you should use the cd to bot then install on the new partition you created.

once you get to the partition screen in windows setup you can delete all the partition that are shown and then you will have one large partition. then format it it the standard way do not use the quick format..
