i think you might be able to use a linux livecd with NTFS support (such as ubuntu 7.10) but be careful, NTFS support is buggy.

Its a driver issue. When you reinstall the OS windows uses the standard windows drivers for everything. Go grab the newest ones from the individual manucturers sites. Most important are the graphics card and motherboard (chipset) drivers. After getting the drivers, check Microsoft update for OS patches.

Try and flash the BIOS. Some motherboards have a drive limit of ~160gb. Be careful.

Welcome! Sounds like a driver issue. I got the switch error on a HP laptop before because the wireless manufaturers driver expected there to be one. I grabed one of HPs site that was for my model, and didnt ask for the switch and was able to get wireless working.

in the grub configuration file you can set it so that there are entries that are always present and are not regenerated when the kernel is updated. Google it.

If you have a fast broadband connection and a network card you can also choose to netinstall, that way you only download what you need, and its the most recent version.

it means either there was some errors installing (scratched disc? - install it again and see) or your graphics card/direcrtx version is crap

32 bit versions of windows cant use over 4gb. They will show 3gbish when 4gb is installed but it is detected. This is a known "bug" common to all 32 bit oses (also, running programs cant use over 2/3gb depending on how your system is configured) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555223

? that seems pointless you can gain full control over the system by simply having physical access to it and the question sounds a bit hacky.

Did the same thing a few weeks ago to me on IE7. I spoke to dani on MSN about it and showed her some screenshots but clearing my internet files, cookies etc.... seemed to fix it.

Vistas networking has a lot of bugs in it, sometimes it just stops working. Happened to my dads twice for no reason, and only a reinstall would fix it but it got broken again , resulting in me reinstalling XP

Windows is the same! When you do product actuvation it sends a hardware fingerprint to MS. You get a set number (3ish) of allowed critical changes e.g motherboard, cpu and when they are up you have to ring up Microsoft and explain.
