Last year, CryptoLocker ransomware [hit the headlines](http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/viruses-spyware-and-other-nasties/news/470427/cryptolocker-250k-infections-in-100-days-nets-300000-or-does-it) after infecting hundreds of thousands of computers and encrypting the data, and backups of that data to any connected device, with the promise of decryption on payment of a fee. This kind of IT extortion is profitable for the bad guys as it targets the people who are least likely to be in a position to do anything but pay; the people who are most likely to get infected are the same folk who are least likely to have an offsite backup or know how to get help with such a problem. This …

I am new in this forum. I have joined this Forum so that I could share my thoughts regarding virus removal or fixing threat. I found this forum quite interesting and hence I joined this forum. The site users are sharing good information; even I would like to share a bit from my knowledge. I am basically from New York, but I need to travel at several places for my business purpose and I also suffer from lots of virus problems in my Laptop. So I can possibly suggest some rescues to other users who suffer from same issues.

CryptoWall 4.0 the newest ransomware to date is been spread by Angler Exploit Kits. A new drive-by download campaign is to blame for this attack. Heimdal was the first to discover the malware nearly one month ago. It's also more stealthier than previous versions and also a lot stronger. This time the message is different and more filenames had been added to the list. Also users have to fork out $700 for the decryption key which makes it a hefty price to pay. Firstly the Pony Information Stealer scrapes the computer of usernames and passwords by scouring the victims computer. …

Hi all, I was at a customers site today, and had a real interesting one. He had a browser hijacker/Malware/Virus that had been detected by Avast (or one of the three of four other AV softwares that he had installed and uninstalled in the past weeks). It was presenting annoying advert pop-ups and unwanted extra windows randomly appearing - some looked convincingly like Adobe upates etc. It is called "ZequitaeKryoniece". No results on Google Search or others for info on the software, No results on the offending PC with a windows search (including Hidden Folders). No results when running Junkware …

I believe I got a trojan virus that has caused some damage to my computer which will no longer connect to the internet. I read several threads on here and these are the steps I have already taken: 1)I downloaded and ran Marlwarebytes and AVG. (I think it found the virus and removed it) 2)I downloaded HiJackThis and saved it to a new folder C:\hijackthis and ran a scan and saved the following log. 3)I reviewed my temp files and I don't think there is anything in them that I need to save. (my understanding is that part of this …

I am on travel and was advised my Win Vista machine had supposedly been infected with the 'interpol' virus approximately one month ago. A family member noticed some odd behavior and took the PC to an 'in-store' tech center for a diagnostic. This center stated the machine was infected and made some general comments about resetting default setting but did not specify any changes they may or may not have applied. Btw, this same place was all too eager to have this machine sent off to their repair facility for a hefty fee so they could further assess the situation. …

Hi! I'm usually on Firefox, windows 7 64 bit, fujitsu lifebook, run adblocker on FF and I get these weird tabs that just open right in front of my eyes sometimes that say "hope", "patience" etc. and have a kind of colored border, nothing on the tab, just the tab title. This is really starting to piss me off. I figured it was just some millenial adding a "Zen" approach to FF but I want to bazooka it outta my computer. I use BitDefender, run Malware Bytes full scan regularly and run microsoft malicious removal tool. I can't find this …

I scanned my system with Malwarebytes today and located the directories of several viruses. I used NotePad++ to open the executable files and deleted all the code written therein and saved the change to the virus. I proceeded to delete the viruses with Malwarebytes; but, I wondered, had I left the viruses changed with no code, would they still be able to execute their program? My thought is, no. But, I would like to get a better understanding why or why not from those who understand computer viruses. The name of one virus specifically, Trojan.Happili, if that helps.

Hello, I am currently running Windows 8 and am having an issue with Internet Explorer. Even with no programs running, IE constantly opens and tries accessing Outlook.com and hits an error screen from Outlook.com saying the requested page cannot be found. While downloading the virus scanners for the logs, I began hitting a different problem. The Mail app began to also pop up asking me to log in. This was quite annoying since I had to now jump between touch and desktop modes (without a touchscreen), consantly close the mail app and lose hundreds of Outlook.com tabs while also downloading …

The problem started with getting redirected when we searched with Google. So we tried other search engines which worked for a little while but now it doesn't matter which search engine we use. If you go back to the original search after you are redirected a time or two you can finally get to the website you want. But now also when we try to go to the Google website it pops up: "Unable to connect: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few …

My computer has been severely hacked. Well 2 laptops actually. And it looks like my router also. Problems noted here: 1. Email accounts routinely hacked even after changing passwords and using keypass in the securist way. Suspected keyloggin occuring somewhere in the stream. 2. Something causing my typing to be highlighted and changed into other words and characters, not randomly but as in remote access type of thing. Suspected rootkit worm virus (I'm only above novice in this stuff). 3. Internet modifications occuring where webpages are rendered with intelligent inaccuracies, suspected DNS redirection and spoofing. If not virus worm etc. …
