Re: I know this has been out there a while, but ... Are you using the "typical" installation? Not everything allows it but if they do, always select "custom installation". This not only lets you choose location in most cases, but it can also give the option of skipping things you …
Re: You didn't say what kind of monitor this is. Some of them have drivers as well -- will look like this if the device manager shows as "generic monitor".
Re: Just for grins, are you using anti-malware, private viewing, or security extensions in Chrome? I had one machine with this problem ( out of several). Though I didn't see any apparent differences, I "reset" Chrome to default and YouTube began working again. I am guessing the difference was related to …
Re: I found on a couple older machines with El Capitan that I needed to shut off blue tooth and reboot a few times before turning it back on for non-Apple wireless mice to work. I was using Logitech, so it may not work with your WalMart mouse but it is …
Re: Their self-install kits are find so long as you know how to login to the router and tweak the security. They set it for minimum.
Machine runs Microsoft Windows 10 (Home) and Microsoft Word 2016 (Home and Student). Recently it began turning on Tracking on new documents. I go in and disable it, it stays off for a day, then comes back on. Since I don't want to use that, it can be annoying. All …
Re: You asked for an opinion ... I guess that depends on the version of Outlook you are using. Pre-2007, I found importing from PSTs to give the best result. For 2007, if the PST was created in a prior version, I go with importing ... if created in 2007, I … ![]()
Re: People felt burned by Millenium (WindowsME) and Vista. XP, once it got to SP2, was quite solid. Many users don't want to have to adapt to the UI changes ... their machine is a tool, not something to take their time. Personally, I like Windows 7, as far as MS …
Re: Disconnect the external drive and reboot. Enter the BIOS setup and navigate to the setup priority (or setup order) screen. While some BIOS's will tell the difference, some versions think a USB drive is a CD and will attempt to boot from it if CD is first in boot order …
Re: While the product key utilities Zelkea mentioned are great, Dell is required in its OEM agreement with Microsoft to put the product code certification seal on your machine. Even if the utilities find it, you need to contact Dell to get a seal.

Re: I've been working with Windows8 for a while now ... but I continue to use a Windows 7 machine for my productivity needs. Win8 is ok with a touchscreen, but it can be a hassle without ... and when running productivity apps, it does mean a move to a more …
I've spent a good deal of time now looking for and equivalent to the previous service pack network install model for updating Windows 8 to 8.1. While I wouldn't expect to see this for the RT version, which is web-centric, I'm concerned not to see it for other non-enterprise versions. …
Re: If you are just trying to move the files, 2 things come to mind. 1) USB cable 2) Check out http://thefiretablet.com/posts/dropbox-kindl/ .
Re: Nullptr is right, MBAM is a good program. One other app to know about from Tweaking.com ... Tweaking_Repair_AIO which can be downloaded from a number of locations including [here](http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair.html). This wizard-based cleanup and repair utility includes running MBAM (Malwarebytes). It also has registry backup, scannow, and some other basic pieces …
Re: A couple of things -- Can you boot to a last known good configuration? (Try first) Have you tried Ctrl-Alt-Del twice (two times) to see if you can start the logon manager (sometimes this will work)? As an aside -- Backups aren't just important, they are essential before using tweakers. …
Re: In addition to the solutions mentioned, Lexar has some drives that can be used encrypted or unencrypted.
Re: I am noticing this in Windows7 Home Premium. The solution is to go into the setup and fix the speaker designation on that machine...for some reason it keeps reassigning the default to a non-existant speaker type. It would be interesting to see if that is your issue, too.
Re: Have you saved music (is your iTunes set to sync to the PC as well as your iPod, as an example)? Have you downloaded / saved any TV programs or do you have books for a Kindle or Nook? Knowing your OS is important to answering this question. If you …
Re: The pricing on the Surface (ARM versions starting at $199) could certainly dent any iPad 7-inch interest. Combine it with the positive comments on the Nexus7 and latest Samsung Galaxy, it is likely more people will at least look beyond the iPad. Having said that, I'm not convinced that the …
Re: If you were on Windows 7, I'd probably say change isn't needed (unless you want Metro). The only compelling reasons I can think of for Windows 8: * Windows-based tablet (and, in this, you get a keyboard ... I hate typing on a screen) * POSSIBLY, Windows-based ultrabook (it will …
Re: I gave up on WET after trying for several different machines. I only had it work effectively once -- it screwed things up twice more. I backup files to an external drive, get favourites/bookmarks, save email with a utility that will save account info, and use that. I generally find …
Re: One other way to determine what kind of RAM you can get, how much, etc. is to go to one of the major vendors like crucial or kingston (also, some multi-brand vendors like 4allmemory.com) and run their memory configurator tool. For the few machines where you do not get automated …
Re: Did you have the same problem with Windows 7? If not, I'd wonder if the problem is related to Windows 8 CP. You might want to see if Microsoft is interested in getting some info from you or has a hotfix ... it might help them too.
Re:
Have you ever tried this one www.piriform.com download the Ccleaner its realy sharp on registry..and its free.
I agree CCleaner is great! Re: Are you using any kind of server? Which flavour of Windows 7 (Home, Pro, etc)? It would help to know the intention (is this for a public access machine for non-repeated users? do you want any information retained that was generated?).
Re: Which server are you planning to use? Is it going to handle DHCP for you or are you doing that from a router? How many client PCs? Are you also looking to control Printers? Are there mobile devices to consider?
Re: Have you checked your machine, very well, for malware? That is probably the most common reason for installer not working. If you are sure your machine is clean, have you tried repairing your OS? You need the installer to install and uninstall anything that uses the MS installer.
Platform: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (Standard) for both host and VHD. Use: Remote access for application. RDS uses both host and VHD to give separation for security in SMB environment. Re: If you connect to the Qwest modem directly (with an ethernet cable), can you get internet then? Have you tried power-cycling the modem/router (off for at least 90 seconds)? The reason I ask, is that CenturyLink in this are has needed a power-cycle several times since the IPv6 update to …
Re: Agbenaza has a good workaround. I'd be interested to know, functionally, if you have all service packs and updates loaded. Also, are macros turned on or off on this sheet?
We are having problems with a Cherry SPOS keyboard. The cardswipe is inserting '70' (without quotes) at the end of the stream. I have been unable to find a way to eliminate this in the programming. For our application, we need to complete the stream with a carriage return ... …
Am setting up a remote access server in an environment that includes a DellConnect 2824. This office was 'given' this device, no documentation. Problems: 1) I have downloaded the manual and read it, but have not been able to access the device to get into the management. Am planning to …

Re: Just to followup on Zelkea's post -- be sure to check for the key BEFORE uninstalling Office2007 if you need to use that option.
Re: No OS is safe from malware. Viruses are one kind, but trojans (which are on the rise) and rootkits are also out there. Various spywares are also in the wild. The OS, itself, may not always be the target of attacks. Adobe products and Java-based apps seem to be expediting …
Re: I've had similar issues intermittently with the trackpad on my laptop. I find that if I click a couple times on the right side of the desktop (the left doesn't work), then hit the escape key, it will return full control.
Re: I may have missed it, but I don't recall seeing anyone talk abou the 64-bit install for AVG free here. Did you try that? Here is an easy place to download it http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/. I have found that using the 32- or 64- but install from a full download has worked …
Re: If you don't have two open USB ports to do what David suggested, buy or borrow a USB hub to give that a try. If someone is reading this post before using Easy Transfer, however, my anecdotal suggestion is that Easy Transfer seems to work more consistently machine-to-machine than machine-to-disc-to-machine …
Re: Like Rik said, "Upgrade" only works 32-bit to 32-bit or 64-bit to 64-bit. XP qualifies for upgrade from the licensing standpoint ... but clean install (if your hardware is compatible) is the best way to get a stable machine. Run the upgrade advisor from Microsoft to check the hardware.
Re: Just to have another option in the thread, SpotMau PowerSuite has a good password reset utility.
Re: Which version of Windows 7 is this? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? What are you using for security / anti-malware / etc? Have you installed any kind of operating system 'optimizer'? Have you run any online 'optimizers' or cleanup utilties? What do you mean by 'cannot verify' the Acronis backup?
Re: I've successfully installed SP1 on a number of machines, no glitches. I support two machines with ATI Radeon 4200 cards, however, that have experienced some serious resolution difficulties. Both are 32-bit Windows7 Pro, Intel Duo-Core. The issues are with WVGA screen sizing when running on larger (not 'optimal') screens (for …
Re: First, there is no 'Windows 2007'. There is Windows 7 or MS Office 2007. Second, have you looked at how files are displayed in your Documents Library? If this is Windows 7, right under the 'Documents library' heading in the viewing windows, you should see how many locations are aggregated …

Re: I recognize this question asks about hibernation, but I have found the sleep mode to work as well or better when I call it from the shutdown menu. I do have the power settings go to hibernate if I hit the power button, and that seems to function as expected. …
Re: I suppose the first thing I would say is if your machine is running ok and you intend to keep it a while, go onto a site like www.4allmemory.com or www.crucial.com, run their configurator, and see how much is would cost to upgrade to at least 2GB of RAM. 512 …
Re: Did it come with reinstall media? If it didn't, did it come with a utility to make reinstall media? (and did you do it)? It is also important to know why you are doing this. Repair and reinstall are different. After checking out the links that LordRT gave, if you … |
